Dawnguard PC bug 'not a vampire'

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 2:01 pm

Here is the problem: In the very begining of the quest 'The Bloodstone Chalice' Harkon had given the task to go to speak Garan Marethi. The thing is that there is all of the npc in location refuses to speak with me saying 'how dare you to become mortal and go here just like this?! Go to Harkon, so he can fix that'. Yet Harkon has no new dialog about this and Garan Marethi just keep not giving me the quest.

So there is no way for me now to play Dawnguard for vampires. Is there is a way to fix that?
I have tried to choose another variations of dialogue, tried to use earlier saves, tried to play without any mods instaled, and tried to make new character - no use, still this problem.
Has anyone faced this problem yet?

Does your active effects page list you as being a Vampire? If it does not I would say go to a vampire cave and let them attack you until you have stage 1 and them retry talking to the croud

Then I just go through quest there is no Vampire effects except power to become vampire lord. And then I tried to become vampire before starting Dawnguard questline - effect is the same - npc keep thinking that I am not vampire.

You can avoid the agro bug by making sure you are undetected (go into a corner out of line of sight, sneak for a few seconds and make sure the eye is closed) when first transforming in a Vampire Lord during the "tutorial". For some reason if you do that transformation while being detected one or more Vampire NPC's become hostile to you, and the others will jump in.

Ya this happend to me too, I cured my vampirism or lack there of and asked harkon to "forgive my ignorance" and he gave me his "gift" again.

In short get cured and ask for vampire again shood fix you up.

i have this same issue

i've tried re-installing both the game and the dlc several times, even removing all my mods and nothing changes

i've also just tried the work-around you described, twice, and it did not work for me

Same here. Pretty hard bug to miss. Beth's QA really showing its colors here again. I mean seriously, did anyone playtest this at all?

anyone come up with a way to fix this
i found a command to set race, say if you are a dark elf
player.setrace darkelfracevampire

this will bypass them not seeing you as a vamp

BUT

when you transform to a lord and then back, you lose the effect, so you'll have to redo it every time, unless you leave it as it is
granted when doing so changes your appearance

ya this is pretty ridiculous that a bug of this caliber is there. At first i thought my mods were doing something, but they i deleted EVERYTHING and started over with a vanilla game, got back to dawnguard, started the quest, got turned and same bug. All the NPC's tell me mortals aren't allowed here blah blah blah. I tried the aforementioned solution, i ran out, got infected with sanguinis vampiris again, waited 3 days, turned, came back, i could talk to people. Turned into Vampire Lord form, changed back, same bug. Turning back into standard form from Vampire Lord also clears the "Vampire" tag from your character. So unless you wanna open the console and use the vampire fix EVERY damn time, then forget it you can't be a vampire lord. Its very obnoxious and i can't believe this was let slip through the cracks.

I don't get it? How is there any way around it for anybody then?

press tilde
player.setrace racevampire

IE: darkelfracevampire
nordracevampire
argonianracevampire

and so on

when switching to vampire lord form
this line of code is disabled and reset so you'll have to type it back in whenever you switch to human form

I found a fix that might work for some
1.)If you are using the mod enhanced combat realism 5, or any follower mods, disable them.
2.) make sure serena is the only follower that comes into the castle, tell all others to wait outside.
3.) go to your active effects bar prior to entering the castle and see if you are effected by vampirism, if so cure it before entering.
4.) if also possible remain in vampire lord form and exit the tutorial room, go to the right, jump over banister and exit castle quickly then re-enter and assume human form.
First three are definite not sure if fourth is necessary but worth a try.
