Dawnguard Causes Change is Skin-tone for Vampires?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 8:54 pm

This may have already been addressed (the nose-slit seems to have taken up most of the discussion) but I recently started a new vampire (Nord female) and after turning her face looks like a corpse with mottled grayish skin. Her body skin-tone remains the same. Is this supposed to be like this? Serana looks perfectly normal. And feeding doesn't change the look.

Yes, it is. Bethesda took the hint and made the Volkihar appear as they should be in lore . . .ugly vampires. Serana is not "normal" in the sense that people can tell she is a vampire. Same for Harkon and the others, but due to gameplay reasons, characters will not attack. Stage 4 vampirism was removed as well, so by all means in lore a vampire from Volkihar bloodline would be noticeable.

Ugly as sin 24/7, regardless of feeding. Just the way it is suppose to.

I still think if they were going to do that they should have made us get the bat nose thing. Actually I think the reason we don't is because we are a half-blood vampire.

The same thing happened to my breton. I don't really mind the pale and more feral look, but since her body is a bit different color, it's kind of annoying.

Hell no, I like the way my characters are. They're Cyrodiilic purebloods tainted by Volkihar! Bat-nose would be horrific. I still think they should of had a vampire face changer in Castle Volkihar who can change the character's face.

I agree why can't vampires have their own face-changer? I still think the nosebleed line looks dumb.

But it is obvious that they changed the way the vampires looked so people would not confuse them with the Cyrodiilic vampires because lets be honest they are not them, maybe before Dawnguard they could pass as Cyrodiilic vampires, but now no way. And vampires should be able to change their face or hair because they are stuck the way they are when they get turned, unless you mean change war paints, then I agree.

I'm having the issue where my Breton male is five shades darker as a vampire. He was rather pale as a human, but as a vamp he looks like a cooked marshmallow brown with the red slit. I love the veiny skin, but the skin is too dang dark to appreciate it. When NPCs comment on my "pale" skin...I feel sad. I look like someone from Jersey Shore...ugh!

Well the change is enough to fool the NPCs not to notice you as Lv4, after all with those looks you blend into normal society so much easier!

I was playing a redguard vamp, boy did I get dark!

Oh, Good Grief. You mean my lovely Dunmer I spent forever getting to look right is going to go all ugly if I become a vampire?

Forget it. DG for me it is.

The females getting the dirty face is a vampire bug from vanilla since males don't get dirty faces they just turn pale and get fangs and the new glowing vampire eyes plus the red slit(females don't get fangs either *madface* even in dawnguard)

Plus the females are even meant to get the new vampire eyes only wood elf female and dark elf female get the new glowing eyes breton, imperial and nords don't get the new eyes they get glowing versions of the old one this is another vampire bug from vanilla skyrim. The only way to fix this is with an old vanilla mod that fixed their eyes giving them the proper vampire sith eyes instead of a simple hazel brown.

See here is the mod. Using this mod gives females the new glowing eyes instead of the old vampire eyes but now they simply glow plus it removes the dirty face(which is a bug) and the red slit which looks tacked on personally I think it fits males more my dark elf looks boss with it.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3374

Its the reason why sybille did not have vampire eyes before dawnguard the vampire eyes for female breton, imperials and nords were hazel brown in vanilla this is what caused people to think sybille is a cyrodil vampire she is simply using illusion like all other volkihar vampires she even raises that skill for you if you do her quest.

So it simply comes down to bethesda being lazy and not fixing the bugs for human female vampires. The reason why sybille does not have the red slit in dawnguard is because they redesigned her face for the DLC.

Plus werewolf I think bethesda can't get vampire looks right in general I mean nothing in immortal blood says that volkihar females refuse to wash their face causing them to get dirty faces. Or have a red line going down from their nose to their lip it simply looks tacked on imo, now if volkihar had bat noses I could get behind that but only a few have it maybe it comes with age because garan is a bloody fossil compared to some of the other vampires.

I mean the cyrodil vampires in oblivion made you look like an old man and I don't think cyrodil vampires are meant to look like 60-70 year olds modders had to change this.

what are you talking about, serana and harkon look normal except for their eyes...nothing "ugly" or sickly looking about them. Also theres still stage 4 but you no longer get hostility for it

personally i hate how going vamp makes my guy look like a meth addict. IMO you should remain normal looking so long as you feed and then get more sickly looking with each stage of vampirism as you're deprived of blood (life) and closer to a corpse....it makes sense but beth doesn't like to do things that make sense :P

I don't mind that my character looks dead - though she was smokin hot before she turned...now she's just creepy-hot  But anywa - I'm not sure what was meant by the eyes - my Nord female has the glowish eyes like Serana but not the flaming-glowing eyes of my Dunmer. The dirty face thing though is weird.

BTW I noticed after becoming a VL my character's skin looked mostly normal. When I reloaded it didn't. It may be the transformation "re-sets" your look somewhat. I'll play test this week and let you know.

I want my female vampires to have fangs! Why in the world don't they have fangs? All I want is to get rid of the nosebleed line in exchange for the bat nose. My vampire doesn't really look ugly.

I know thats what I thought as well but the mod just gives females fangs if it changed female bodies to look like that I would have uninstalled it in a heartbeat.

I have confirmed that the "dirt" on female vamps disappears after VL transformation - when you revert to your mortal form your character won't have a dirty face. The dirt will return if you exit the game and reload, but another VL transformation (and return to mortal form) will solve this.

I should mention I tested this on 360.

Yeah, you can still tell they are vampires just by looking at their glowing eyes. I know there is stage 4, and there is no hostility because Bethedsda wanted to please the little children.

I hate it too, but the looking more monstrous by dieting blood is a Cyrodiilic vampire trait, so it wouldn't make sense for the Volkihar to have that at all. So in a way, lore is not ultimately butchered since.

A) The Volkihar always look ugly as hell with the exception of the purebloods, who still can't blend in.

b)They don't get attacked due to gameplay reasons. But shove a Volkihar into a tavern or a city in true lore scenarios and see what happens

I tested this on a Nord female. Other races may have additional problems (I heard something about flubs with Bretons?)

A featureless gray face occurs because face data isn't exported for the actor, or a mod has altered their appearance from their export data.

It also seems to occur if the player's (who does not need face data exported) face data is changed by a new mod; in this case, Dawnguard changed the default female vampire eye, which means that the player, if a vampire, will have their eyes changed, editing their face data and causing the "gray face bug".

It can be fixed by curing the disease and becoming a vampire again, or by managing to change your race in some other way: becoming a werewolf or a vampire lord.
