I do have it selected.

Nothing is pointing me anywhere though.. Once tried to go out into one of the other two portals and it wanted me back in Darkfall passage..

At that point I just said forget it ...

that is a glitch with the quest, follow it and it will bring you to the correct area.

Basically you went into the correct area, but not the way the quest wanted you to go in.

You can only go forward by exploring. Once you find a Wayhrine, it can only take you to places in the Vale you have already been. You have to find all 5 of them to be able to go anywhere in the Vale using the shrines. Just forget about using the shrines except to fill the jug. Take you time, for some of the paths are easy to miss.
