Day/Night cycyle seems too fast

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:42 pm

I haven't seen anyone bringing this up on the forum yet so is anyone feeling the same way?

I can barely do anything significant in FNV during the day, before the night starts falling, or vice versa and it breaks the immersion - I play in HC mod. Perhaps I get this feeling because I play FO3 with FWE mod and time scale set to 1:5 ratio which means one whole day/night cycle lasts for almost 5 hours and that feels just about right. In FNV I feel this cycle is much much shorter and feels too.... artificial?
Perhaps one of you guys that like to mess with mods would know the way to adjust this? Any help is much appreciated.

Oh and hi all! Finaly decided to register and post something but I am not new to this forum. :)

Just use the console command "set timescale to ". Default is 30, that means one minute real time equals 30 minutes in game time, i use 12, 5 minutes real time is one hour in-game, 1 hour real time is 12 hours in-game. Timescale change is preserved in save game, but you have to enter that command again for new characters.

I'm kinking about opening the console and typing in Set TimeScale to 4. IIRC that will make it one in-game hour in 15 minutes.

Thank you very much for your help and a prompt response! I guess Im off to waste my Saturday in FNV.... :D

But messing with the timescale in HC mode has bad effects on your hydration metre when sleeping, that's what i've read anyway

Edit; Although I haven't tried it this mod should give you what you're after

According to endorsments and comments this mod seems to do the job right. I will try this mod instead of console command first as it seems to solve the mentioned bug.

Thank you guys for your help!

I used to use a mod in Fallout 3 called "longer days and shorter nights", although I tended to use the version that simply made the day/night cycle 2x longer. As a sneaky type, I liked to start a mission area at dusk and not have the sun come up while I was only halfway done. Doubling the time allowed for night was just about right.

That mod looks like the same idea and I'll probably add it for my 2nd play through (first run is no-mods for me).

In Fallout3 I used 15:1, as I felt the default 30:1 was too fast (I was using a hardcoe-type mod, and sleeping once per hour or more was a little too disruptive to gameplay).

I originally tried 1:10, but it felt like I was getting a little too much done in a game-day.

I figured I would play at the vanilla setting for a while, since I assume the devs have balanced hardcoe around the timescale, and I wasn't sure if the meter rates would be pegged to the timescale setting. I had tested that the timescale command still works, but I didn't get around to testing the hardcoe meters.

Sounds like that mod is just the thing, I'll probably add it to my game eventually.
