Dead is dead... and some other hardcoe stuff.

Post » Wed Dec 30, 2009 6:18 am

Who is going to try playing it's first playthrough in Skyrim restricting themselves and roleplaying the hardcoe way? Like when a character dies you delete the save and start another one, after all, dead is dead. And how about limiting the quantity of stuff you can carry and no fast-travel and if possible take out the quest-markers?

Who is with me? Bonus points if you play on the hardest difficulty.

Naah won't do that my first play through. Will do it though if Skyrim after 5000 hours starts to bore.

I personally want to have FUN when I play Skyrim. I want to experience everything and not be killed by snow rats and what-not.

Maybe later but on the first playthrough? Not a chance, I want to enjoy it, not get frustrated by it (that's assuming I will be dying a lot).

Well, it can be fun :D
I played FNV in that way and it was way funnier than playing it the normal way later.

I think, challenge adds immersion, and immersion is fun.

I always play the hardest difficulty with RPG games. It means I have to think about how I'm attacking enemies and it makes the game feel alot longer. Though I'm not sure about "Dead is dead" for my first play through, I think I would find it frustrating after a while. But I will be limiting myself. In Oblivion I only carried two weapons, one set of armour and one set of clothes, no more than five health potions and the rest was saved for spoils of war.

I doubt on my first playthrough I'll play dead is dead. I'm so anxious to see this MQ played out that it overcomes my need to role-play at the moment. I'm sure after a few run throughs I'll step up my RP game.

I sorta had the same idea before starting NV... buuuuuut the game being buggy and all it's hardly fair for the player NOT to restart from an earlier save.

i think this would be a great idea, my OCD likes the idea of starting on a lower difficulty level, then trying a hardcoe mode after i've beat it

The first mod I shall make will be a Death Penalty mod like I use for Obilvion.

This is how it works...

You die
You wake up in an Inn after 3 days have passed
You have a random chance of either a) Losing all your gold B) Losing a random amount of items of any type and maybe some gold c) You lose EVERYTHING except important quest items.

If you lose everything you have to start from scratch again.

I love it when I lose everything and I find myself wandering around in Iron armor for a few days till I can get something better and having to go out and find those decent enchanted items again, it adds so much more fun to the game.

That does sound quite good, but why an Inn? It would make more sense to wake up some where with healers -- like a chapel undercroft or mages guild perhaps?

I would really want that :D

Good luck scripting this, I think it will be hard

Scene: Visiting the graybeards.

PC: *PC walks towards a graybeard that is facing away from the PC* Greetings!
NPC Graybeard: *startled* AAAAHHHHHH!!!

You have died! Start again!

I′d never be able to play TES like that because I have so many of those freak accidents, like while playing The Shivering Isles, I had to sneeze and during the sneeze my elbow accidentally hit the mouse on the left click and I hit Sheogorath with my mace...

I've got no problem with the high-difficulty self-impositions, I've done it many times...but I prefer to avoid the permanent death in games that can potentially rack up hundreds of hours in a single save. Too much annoyance for me, there.

Well, I have thought about it... buuut propobly not on my first play-through though.

On the other hand, it would be more interesting on the first play-through... you never know what to expect.

Yeah I didn't mention that there is a pop up message when you wake up that reads...

"The last thing I remember is falling in the midst of battle. A passing guard found me close to death and dragged me to this Inn. Unfortunately while I lay unconscious, some bandits stole (What ever the random chance chooses)"

It's already done, I use it for Oblivion.

However, due to Oblivions engine it's hard to make sure the script always runs when the player dies. So what I currently do is have my character set to Essential and when I die I can still activate my inventory, because I'm really just unconscious, and I activate an item that starts the script. Not the best solution, but it works.

There is another mod out there that handles scripting after death well, but I can't get it to work with mine.

I would not like there to be such an achievement! I want to be able to get all of them without turning the difficulty slider all the way to the left!
