Dead Money svcks: can I quit?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:20 pm

Hey everyone, I've just stumbled upon a dlc that majorly svcks: Dead Money, and from the reviews I've read around the web, most reviewers agree with me. I didn't come here to debate on the dlcs likeability, I just want to know if there is anyway I can leave, a loophole, a trick, a hack anything to get me back to the Mojave. If Bethesda hasn't provided an Exit door on this dlc, it's going to be a big knock on FNV to me. So I'm asking is there a way to get out of Dead Money once you start it?

Thanks for your input, G

Just finish it.
It's not that long.
It is mind numblingly boring at times though, give you that.
I just did because I wanted to completely finish the game and all DLC content before I put it ( NV ) on the shelf.
Making off with a fortune that will last you the whole game kinda makes it worth it. No more scrounge / repair loot runs.

There's no way out.

What don't you like about it? It's tied with Lonesome Road for my favorite DLC in the game.

Reload a past save or buckle down and finish it. No other option.

Them's the facts.

I'd recommend finishing it. I'm disappointed that you don't recognize how awesome Dead Money is, but if just want to get it over with, set the game to very easy, turn off hardcoe mode (if you have it on) and just plow through it in an hour or so.

It pisses me off, first of all that I entered a part of the game that locks me in. I should have the choice to change mind, that's sort of common sense to me. Also don't care to solve the puzzles.

I didn't know it was that short, but still I just don't like it.

You did have the chance to change your mind. It asks you as you enter the BOS Bunker if you're sure and that you won't be able to return to the Mojave.

Didn't you read that warning thing that appears when you click the door of the BoS bunker? You know, the one that tells you that you won't be able to return to the Mojave until you're done with the Dead Money DLC?

And did you even listen to the NPCs at all?

You can't return because you were knocked unconscious, kidnapped, had a bomb collar strapped to your neck, and told that if you leave the collar is going to explode.

Your missing out on some of the best quests and gameplay out of the entire game+DLCs because you're mad about not being able to come and go as you please? Look, if you want to enjoy Dead Money, then listen to the characters, adapt to the environment, and try not to die.

And if you're really that upset about the DLCs actually having story lines (that's why you can't leave btw), then don't bother playing any of them other than Lonesome Road (its story line is written in a way that it makes sense for you to be able to come and go as you please, so you can.).

I'm embarrassed to say, but I have a bad habit of clicking through text. Jokes on me huh, lol?

Same that I said to Ratslayer.

I hope all the dlcs are not Lock Ins. I appreciate your feedback though.

I had a feeling you did that.....

The only DLC you can leave is Lonesome Road. Keep playing Dead Money and take your time. You'll WANT to find all the Holorifle mods, the Sierra Madre Snow Globe and the Stimpack vending machine codes. There's also a TON of Pre-War Money in the vault.

All DLCs are lock-ins except for Lonesome Road. It really isn't that bad if you read. Also the DLC wouldn't be so bad if you payed attention to your ghoul companion and Elijah. They tell you pretty much what is up.

If you don't like to read or listen to dialogue then might I suggest playing one of the hundreds of look-down-the-sights First Person Shooters?

It's not different than Fallout 3. All of the Fallout 3 DLCs except for Broken Steel were lock-ins.

I enjoyed Dead Money very much, and I have a habit of playing it on hardcoe in the middle of the night, nowadays. (That's totally the way it's meant to be played. It's awesome)

Does that include dialogue? Because if so, this game is not for you. Seriously, you might as well play something else.

If you're deadset on not playing it and are on PC, use this: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42155
Let's you skip the DLC, and this one in particular. Even though only Lonesome Road will let you go back, so you might as well skip the other two. If it's really that much of an issue, you probably shouldn't have bought them in the first place.

Alternatively, reload to before the DLC started.

The best option, however, would be to restart the DLC play it, and pay attention. Let it enthrall you. I hate to be so pretentious, but you're doing it wrong otherwise.

Absolutely horrid. I mean everyone likes a certain kind of game but Dead Money just doesn't fit the Fallout style. I think the story is probably pretty cool but the execution is terrible. It's like someone handed me a completely different game and said, "hey play this, it's not like Fallout" I hate it when game designers do this sort of thing, but it's not the first time I've seen it happen.

Terrible! It's like a completely different game totally unrelated to the Fallout Series. Oh well, I played about 2 hours last night and hated every minute of it

Different Strokes I guess......................

Yeah, whats not fallout out about it? it's a pre-war ruin, with a shady past that everyone looking for. TI has pre-war techno-wonders and radiation Mutants. It also has an awesome backdrop and story with some awesome characters. I think you just have yourself convinced your not going to like it so you are forcing yourself to hate it no matter what.

It wasn't the traditional "loot fest" dlc that's for sure. It plays differently than the rest of the game but, that's kinda why we like it. However, your statement about how it doesn't fit with the Fallout style is completely wrong. It's a ruined wasteland with danger around every corner. It has a deep story to it. Memorable characters are... well memorable. And there is future technology to use! It just doesn't feel like a first person shooter. Which is a good thing.

It brought back dangerous traps. Though, the traps from the first two games weren't that dangerous. (ie. exploding lockers) Anyways, traps are actually dangerous in this dlc. The most dangerous trap is at the end of the DLC. It's easy to avoid if you read. (which you don't) And can make the player feel like he/she did everything wrong. Took me a while to figure out what I did wrong.

I enjoy the dangerous feel to this DLC. You know how good it feels going from being an unstoppable badass overpowered killing machine to, THIS? It's so nice to feel vulnerable again! And it does this without doing much of the traditional "make the game harder" design. You know the spamming of enemies. The "sponginess" or the increasing damage done by enemies to ridiculous proportions.

Difference of two worlds I guess.

It does in fact play differently than the rest of the game, that's part of the charm of it. You're used to one shotting Fiends in the head and having really good armor to protect you. DM takes all that away from you. That's what the challenge is, taking everything you knew about NV and throwing it out the window.

Do you have what it takes to survive a survival-horror version of Fallout?

My god, your absolutely right. It does play differently then the base game; I mean, what kind of [censored] DLC takes away MY weapons and armor? I fought for them, I scavenged for them, so I decide to have them! No matter what that piece of [censored] dressed in a wizard outfit thinks.

Honestly, the setting has nothing to do with Fallout either. I mean, a casino with a villa? What is this, some sort of Resident Evil game? No thank you, I'll just to stick to the REAL Fallout, with all the shooting of bad guys and making my lasers go Pew Pew in Pre-War vaults. That's how the game is meant to be played.

Yeah, I guess some people might find a completely unrelated to Fallout survival horror based DLC fun, but I don't. One of the worst out there by far.
