Dead Money: Thoughts?

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 7:14 am

I'm playing through it again and it's my least favorite DLC. I just wanted to know your guys' thoughts on it - do you think it's easy, hard, fun, a pain, or anything else? Personally, I think it's a pain since you are limited to supplies, the beeping definitely gets to you at first, and the poison clouds are annoying and cause you to use Stimpacks when you least want to use them. Just post your thoughts if you want.

Also, are there any unique weapons or armor I should know about that's in the villa?

I loved DM, It's my second favorite DLC in NV.

Imo, It's not as hard as lots of people make it out to be (Just need some patience) and the story behind the villa is just so cool.

I agree, the storyline is awesome! I just can't find a bed anywhere to magically heal myself. They always say "You cannot wait in this location."

There are no "Unique" Weapons hidden anywhere in Dead Money, Your character has the only Unique Weapon when waking up at the beginning. There are upgrades that can be found througout the Villas and Casino to get more items from the Holodispensers. Other People trapped in the Sierra Madre have left things to help Themselves and even Other People.

There are three upgrades hidden through the DLC to upgrade the Holorifle, one for the Automatic Rifle, and one for the Bear Trap Fist.

I personally find the last part of the DLC to be more annoying than Cloud, Traps, and Opponents due to My lack of reflexes.

I thought the Assassin Suit was a unique apparel, no? And you forgot about the snow globe! I have no idea where it is but there's YouTube videos on how to get it.

I also didn't know about the upgrades, especially for the Automatic Rifle and Bear Trap Fist, thanks for telling me!

Haha, The story is easily one of the best (Father elijah makes a great villain..or friend depending on the Player char) and the cloud is the reason you can't sleep (That pissed me off the first time lol)

I finally learned that you can trade items around the villa for SM chips (Things like carton of cigs or a pack of cigs) after finishing the DLC for like the 5th time xD.

Also, After you finish the MQ it becomes a lot easier to look around the villa as most of the cloud is gone.

Wait, I thought you can't return to the Sierra Madre after beating the MQ.

If you leave then yup, bye bye madre.

But if you walk around after dealing with the last boss (Of the DLC) then the villa is a lot more open for you to explore :D

The only beds you can sleep on are in interior cells. You can't sleep outside since the cloud would kill you in your sleep.

I love the story and love the challenge of the DLC. But it can get frustrating in parts, especially once you get inside the Casino, and under ground. I try my best with approaching with patience, but theres some stretches near the end of the MQ, that can be very frustrating. Father Elijah is a great villian as mentioned earlier though.

It can get frustrating early on, because it was specifically designed to. It's also designed to make you feel more and more badass as you go on though, like you're conquering the place. Talk with one character and the ghost people go down easily, another gives you a recipe to turn the Cloud into a healing item, another lets you counterfeit the casino chips. You start to get the rhythm of speakers and holograms, and supplies get more and more common. It's really invigorating to get to the final quests with payoffs for all the main characters' stories, and really satisfying to deal with Elijah, whichever way you choose to do it.

Basically I like dead Money so much because it tears you down and then builds you back up. Stick with it and it'll soon get great.

What happeneded to the bearded kid? That was youse wasn't it? That cracked me up.

Here's a bunch of random thoughts I had about Dead Money. Good luck sorting these socks.

I really like this scenerio. You play your Special and Skills and there are a lot of puzzles to solve. The lack of supplies and all that you mention was the challange to conquer. The fun of it, if you will, but I'm a sadist.

You might as well be butt naked when you find yourself at the Madre, that would have been funny huh?. Where's all my fancy gear ? That piece of crap Police Special was my primary weapon for a bit .I wasn't a gun guy. AWKWARD.... and VULNERABLE. Where's some ammo ? A split personality Super Mutant that's "So hungry!" Will he eat me? I wonder. I use the Holorifle still as my primary weapon. It's a Deathclaw killa. I used the Assassin ( funny word ) Suit until it got shreaded by Tunnelers, different story. I got to meet the legendary Don Domino. I see his posters everywhere. I love celebs. Bring your camera. I loved getting maimed by bear traps and being bent over by ghost people. Good times. ahh, Long walks in a toxic cloud were so refreshing. The hologram stares at you ... I hear the beeping of my slave collar in my sleep till this day in real life. The beeping is getting faster. BOOM! I left addicted to those darned martini's. It was so bad I had to ask Doctor ?Ada? in Novac for help and she's really messed up. Now I worry about where to hide my gold but that's a good problem to have.

GOOD BYE

IMO, Dead Money is the best DLC in both new Fallouts. Storyline is main focus, it really made me think. It reminds me of what one of my friends told me years ago - that letting go is key to the happiness in life. Gameplay is hard, sometimes even frustrating. I loved it, especially this damn beeping made my heart beat faster:) There is only one place that I consider unfair, near the end of DLC.

I don't understand guys who say that Dead Money svcks, because there is no good loot. Like there is not enough weapons and armour in vanilla and other DLCs.

After playing Dead Money for the first time in hardcoe Mode recently (I've only played in normal mode), I've developed MORE love for Dead Money. Dead Money forces players to be ripped of their overpowered weapons and Power Armor for the first act, then as you move about the Madre, you find goods to aid you in your push through the Villa. Once you make it through the Medical Station, I'd argue the difficulty drops exponentially due to having the Stimpak dispensary code.

OP, if you think the Madre was tough in Normal Mode, try hardcoe, where simply being outside chips at your health. That really keeps you on your toes. :frog:

Yes, I really love this DLC the most, as my enthusiasm in this post shows. :fallout:

That was me with the picture, yes. But Bearded Billy went to go to sleep for a while but I'll make my picture his father.

Gameplay was painful (forced stealth sections, annoying radios, and enclosed spaces are what I hated most.) but the overall story and message redeemed for me. Somewhat. It still currently stands as my least favorite though.

Probably the best DLC I've played for any game, superb writing and unique gameplay that mixes things up a bit and challenges the player so that it's not just more of the same.

I just got to the part where I have to deal with Dean Domino, is there any way to NOT kill him?

Yeah, don't be cocky to him and let him think he was better and smarter earlier at the start of the DLC

essentially don't use skill checks on him earlier

Think that was one of the best subtle choices and consequences in the game.

It can be frustrating, and difficult, but it is definitely my favorite DLC. Especially on HC. You start out feeling vulnerable, near the end you may start feeling overpowered again, but it can still surprise you even up to the very end. And the potential rewards, from gambling in the casino, and the gold bars, are immense. As Personalblaze said, one of the best parts is after dealing with Elijah, you can walk around all over and pick up stuff you might have missed. I finally found the Snow Globe, never yet have found more than 13 of Dean Domino's 15 stashes.

What is wrong with quoting and the emoticons? Anyway, LOVE Fallout HC and DM! :)

Maybe my game gliched? I got out of there with everyone alive. Elijah was always telling me to "Take care of ___ "

but I'm a lover not a fighter.

I loved the story, but I hate those type of stealth games. I love to play sneaky, but if I get caught, I want to be able to fight my way out of a situation. Even if I'm at a disadvantage because of my gear vs. those who want to start fighting right off the bat, it's always nice to have that last resort.

The exploding slave collar thing with the speakers wasn't too bad. You could always shoot the speakers. The poison cloud stuff was not really all that different than the radiation to me.

I feel DM is a well constructed and quality DLC. It was the first one released and tickled all the right spots for me
