Dead Wind Cavern

Not going to spoil anything, but Dead Wind Cavern is so intense. I ventured in with Boone as my companion, sporting my YCS/186 with Energy Weapons up to 100, level 22. Let's just say it's the most fun I've had in New Vegas.

Trust me, most of us here are 'seasoned veterans' of the Mojave Wasteland, we've been there plenty of times.

To me, all the loot I got there on my second playthrough wasnt worth the trek.

Went through with AMR + APR... didnt get hit once. Which in hindsight pissed me off cause I was 2k HP away from Desert Survivalist so I figured that'd be the best way... ended up blowing myself apart for the next 5 mins out of frustration. lmao.

Deadwind Cavern, such a peaceful time when I was in there.
Please enjoy this narritive I have typed for you all:

It was a dusty and hot day in the Mojave Wasteland. The Courier was traveling to this cavern called Dead Wind Cavern. As he neared the cave, the dark rocks and steep hill stared at him with overwhelming presence. All of a sudden, a few Deathclaws came charging. "I got this, boss" said the savvy Raul as he pulled his Marksman Carbine. The courier pulled his brush gun, Deathclaw Slayer and put a few rounds into the terrifying beasts. Then the battle was over. The courier bravely went into the cave of the....[something that I won't spoil].....Deathclaw. The heat of battle started when the courier shot 2 deathclaws in the main lobby of the sullen cave. Raul was off with ED-E to fight some deathclaws, leaving the courier to himself. The courier went off to the right to follow his companions, putting rounds into deathclaws on the way. Then, the room came to an end and the courier, with his companions went back to where they came from and turned left this time, shooting some deathclaws while strolling. Then the group was at the mouth of the dark, intimidating corridor that lead to the unknown. They walked in the corridor and was suddenly attacked from the left. I pack of baby deathclaws swarming like bees. Behind them was the ugliest, second least powerful deathclaw, the Mother Deathclaw. The courier and group quickly eliminated the pack of beasts unscathed. Then the moment of truth had finally come. The path to the right led to the most challenging ordeal of the courier's life. The ......... room of the .......... Deathclaw. The group was end of the corridor and they saw an astonishing sight. The most fearsome and powerful Deathclaw, the ........... Deathclaw! The ........... Deathclaw charged at the courier, no one else. And hit him, the courier was hit and hurt a little. Then the courier put 5 shots into him, while Raul stood there shooting his Marksman Carbine at the monster. The courier had to reload and did that, getting hit twice more. Then at the end, it was the courier who magically paused the battle, heard some music, picked the head of the creature, heard a confirmation sound and heard some more music. The courier shot the .......... Deathclaw in slow motion and the ........... Deathclaw died. The courier had finally slain the ........... Deathclaw! After that the courier picked up Mercy, the unique Grenade Machinegun and was off on his adventure for more guns and glory.......

My character is a deatchclaw trophy hunter, so a Legendary Deathclaw was too much to pass up. The satisfaction makes the crappy loot worth it.

Every single playthrough I do I always make it a point to go in there, hell sometimes I save before I go in the door just so I can make another run with a different loadout, good way to test out what works and what doesn't.

I actually haven't been there yet. I walked in once on my first char at like lvl 10, and then walked right back out with eyes as wide as... *looks at the forum age* watermelons :sadvaultboy:

I really should get to doing that...

Went in on my level 30 character, was trapped against a wall, one chance to kill while in VATS. Aim for the head, get the crit. Felt like a baws. Did it again, only using explosives (my explosives is at like... 25 I believe lol) Did anyone find the enormously booby trapped lock in there? When I searched, the trap nearly killed my (left with 17 HP) and I had Remnant Power armor on. There is a footlocker in there with a ton of caps along with every faction cash too. Probably not worth it though if you hadn't saved after killing all of those deathclaws.

Anyway, I find this cave to be a must stop for every character to see how he is fairing compared to others.

Running like a [censored] while Raul and Rex get mauled isn't combat.

I never said that i went in and lived.

I don't think running and screaming like a [censored] is the ninja way.

I think my favorite trip in there was when I had given Roni a fully loaded Q35 Matter Modulator with Max Charge, and a Displacer Glove, and told her to shoot. I stepped in, and suddenly green goo is flying past me. Then there's this shape leaping at me that turns into a puddle in midair. Then another, and another. One of them got close as I stood there, awestruck, and she punched it in the face with a flash of light and a sickening noise, and it fell to the ground as well. I start trying to run ahead of her, so I could get a kill, and the green globs keep flying past me, laying waste to anything that moves. Then I suddenly backpedal as the big dog comes out...and is reduced to a puddle of green goo in front of me.

I stammered for a moment, turned and looked at Roni, and promptly handed over my 'Bad Mofo of the Wastes' medal. Ever since I've wondered why she's a Scribe, and not a Paladin.

why is everyone pissed at the Mercy? ever since it got its buff, and the Demo Expert perks, and Splash damage, it tears everything to shreds in just seconds :/ (then you can get Heave Ho! to snipe people from afar lol) but yes, I too traveled in there, armed with the Avenger, AMR, and the FatMan for that special little guy ;D...needless to say, I had a lovely balst (the new patch though always almost kills me when i face him O_O) btw...wheres this locker thing thats booby trapped?

Deadwind Caverns is pretty fun, but the Deathclaw Promontory has quite a bit more Deathclaws in it.
