I'm having the same crashes as others when weapons are pooled from the Vanilla BSA. However I have all of the meshes extracted, although PyFFI'd, in loose folders as a backup. So I did some testing with this.

First test. Stable install, only a day old, first run of DR 6.

Conscribe Log - This first run reported script errors for DR 6, not sure why. The NIFSE info near the bottom.

Okay here is where I thought I'd change things up hopeful that I would get a different result. I took the Witsplitter .nif and placed it into a loose folder to see if I would still crash when not looking in the BSA.

Hey, you guys maybe want to know that i released a replacement for the heartbeat slow motion sound. I hope it doesnt bother skycaptain.

I'm having the same crashes as others when weapons are pooled from the Vanilla BSA. However I have all of the meshes extracted, although PyFFI'd, in loose folders as a backup. So I did some testing with this.

OK, more updates: testing by MJMax shows that the Golden Saint Longsword and the Crusader's Sword don't get read properly by NifSE. More on that below.

First, however, I have to report sean144800's unbelievable testing, which shows that the following crash for him (and presumably also for everyone else who experiences these crashes at all):

The missing mesh errors are completely separate from the crash errors; they may be due to an error in the BSA reader that I thought I'd fixed, or possibly due to an issue in Niflib; I need to investigate that to make sure. The issue in the BSA reader seems to be not being able to handle BSAs that are improperly made (according to the documentation of the format on UESP and as compared to how the BSA reader expects them to be), but since Oblivion reads them and the BSA in question is from Shivering Isles, I'll have to fix that.

If someone has extracted the Shivering Isles BSA for any reason, and therefore has those weapon meshes in their folder, could try throwing one, I would be appreciative. It would help to narrow things down if I knew that a non-BSA'd version of the same mesh did or didn't cause problems.


In general, it seems likely that all of these errors can be solved by extracting the mesh from the BSA. This is obviously a very annoying and unsatisfactory solution, but for those who just want it to work, and don't want to wait for my computer to get up and running again (it... could be a while), that should solve all of your problems.


Glad I could be to at least some help. Perhaps I'll try to replicate some of the previously done testing to further confirm it, beyond that, I'm not sure what to do.

i believe the MMM weapons are added by a BSA. as i posted on the bug report thread, the rusty variants of iron don't cause crashes when thrown (at least for me). i tried it with a claymore, dagger, and one-handed axe.

(i believe those weapons are added by MMM, not 100% because i installed OOO and MMM at the same time)

Yeah those are MMM along with rusty steel, which I just tried. I didn't get a crash either, though I did find out that equipping (and attempting to throw) any alternative lighting source, IE a lantern or luminor, completely breaks the ability to throw weapons or torches.
Also Skycaptain how heavily does momentum effect magic? Or does it at all, because magic (I know I'm a freakinbroken record saying this) seems stonger, sometimes more or less so. Anywho.

I found that all of the BSA'd, non-vanilla weapons I tried were thrown without any problems. I used Fran's items (part of FCOM) which are BSA'd, specifically I tried the Pegasus set. I'll PM you the log if it helps.

haha this is interesting I tested a bound longsword and it crashed as well, but bound weapons added by LAME worked for the most part, (with the order longsword missing a mesh when thrown.)

Those of you who don't have crashes, do you not use BSA alteration? BSA alteration should not cause any problems, and in reality if there is a problem there it's probably something I need to fix in the reader rather than an error in OBMM, but it could explain why some people have problems and others don't.

I don't know a lot about archive invalidation, but I do know that on this completely fresh install of Oblivion I have not used BSA alteration. I have used redirection. I have been having crashes, obviously.

i use OBMM; however, i don't believe i have used the BSA alteration feature- unless OBMM is set up to use it automatically.

BSA Redirection through Wrye Bash here. But I think I'll turn that off real quick and see if I crash. This will at least let us know if it's related. Be back in a few.

EDIT** No dice, as expected I still crash without any form of BSA redirection/alteration. Just for reference here is the procedure I took.

--Open Wrye Bash and disable BSA Redirection.
--Remove the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa from the Data folder
--Start game, throw Witspliter, Runtimer C++ error. I took a screen of that error to see if we are all getting this error? Sometimes I do, others I cannot see the message but get the ding sound.

Has no one else still had any problem adding one of the timed block esp's and then removing it and still having timed block stuck in your game no matter what? I have tried everything short of reinstalling the game to get it to go away. :(

OK, so updates based on sean and MJMax's testing: BSAs used by other mods seem to work. The reason some of the LAME bound weapons work is because the mesh in question is actually in the folders. A bound weapon is no different from any other from NifSE's perspective, and for the most part they just use the same Daedric Weapon nifs.

sean had a good idea, so I want to ask people: those of you who are seeing crashes, do you use OBMM's BSA alteration feature for archive invalidation? Those of you who don't have crashes, do you not use BSA alteration? BSA alteration should not cause any problems, and in reality if there is a problem there it's probably something I need to fix in the reader rather than an error in OBMM, but it could explain why some people have problems and others don't.

Lame actually uses a bsa not folders but that was already proven that mods w/ bsa are fine so no prob other than missing mesh when thrown
As for me i use bsa redirection still have the crashes

--Start game, throw Witspliter, Runtimer C++ error. I took a screen of that error to see if we are all getting this error? Sometimes I do, others I cannot see the message but get the ding sound.

Is it possible that it's related to the version of Visual C++ we are using? Just a thought. I would think all weapons would crash if that's the case but I'm just tossing things out there.

Related to my question, in bold, about different versions does not seem to matter. I have tried on both 2008 and the 2010 redist packages. Both same crash. I didn't think it would matter since it's only crashing on certain meshes but I wanted to rule it out. I'm trying to rule as much crap out as possible...

Well I'm off to see the Suns and Bobcats play here in Charlette tonight! I'll be back later and check in on the progress. There has to be a solution, I refuse to believe otherwise! Keep at it folks!

Also if anyone could look at the other thread where I posted my crash issues that's related to DRSplatter.esp that would be great. Anyone else having similar issues related to splatter?
