Dealiest Warrior Tournament: The Ten Trials of Crazy Jim

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:46 am

I didn't accidentally upload the fights. I uploaded them on purpose, but Youtube apparently failed to save the settings I selected so the videos went "public" instead of being "unlisted". If it ever happens again, could you guys please keep it to yourself? I'm trying to order the fights for maximum dramatic effect and you just ruined a good part of it. I'll now have to reorder the fights.

And while we're at it, you're not supposed to post spoilers in the general forum. :P

THE FIRST TRIAL

The first challenger was the Orc Yurkig gro-Hurgak who called himself Jim's Bane. He would stop at nothing to end Crazy Jim's reign of terror and called upon the Daedra of Oblivion to aid him.

THE SECOND TRIAL

The second avenger who tried to put a stop to Crazy Jim's rampage was Frosty the Nord Skychild. Armored in the battlegarb of the Dwemer he was fearless and resolute.

I'm not sure why I bothered with the spoiler protection, you guys already know what the results are. :(

Yes, you should have chosen a mace. Preferably an ebony or daedric one. You also needn't have bothered with Destruction magic because Jim has 50% Resist Magic and 50% Spell Absorption. For similair reasons a Skeleton Guardian would have been a better summon than the spellcasting Dremora. Shield of Retributive Strike was also a non-optimal choice because Reflect Damage is overpriced when facing only 1 opponent. An Ogre Skin or Monolithic Shield would have been more cost-effective and it would have allowed you to afford a quality mace.

Edit: Looking at the fight again, I think Crazy Jim actually used Dragon Skin around 0:50 of the video. Talk about overpowered. :P

Yeah. Crazy Jim basically exploits every flaw in the NPC combat system. I'm sure he's beatable, and I expect he'll be beaten at least once or twice in this tournament, but I think that he is definitely proof that future tournaments should be more balanced than true to the vanilla game.

Why is it that they never conjure up summons the second time around? Is it just chance?

Also, the people who quoted Ni's post may want to edit theirs because of spoilers.

The only flaw in the NPC combat system that Crazy Jim exploits is the general stupidity of NPCs. He much more exploits the imbalance among vanilla races and birthsigns.

As for not summoning during the second fights, it's curious. I checked the videos and it turns out that the first fight always has summoning and the second fight never has it. I don't have an explanation for that. Both fights come from the same saved game so theoretically the only difference should be chance.

I checked the Sons of Skyrim tournament and the general pattern seems to be that they use summoning in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th fight and don't use it in the 2nd and 4th fight. But there are exceptions. Kjelhe summoned his Scamp in both fights of his match against David and Crazy Jim didn't do any summoning in his matches against Gregnak and Kjelhe.

It's probably just a coincidence.

I didn't release all the fights. I only released two. I did upload more videos, but all except the two leaked ones are still "unlisted" and you need a link to view them.

The Third Trial will be against Barahir.

THE THIRD TRIAL

The third among the avengers was Barahir the Imperial Wanderer and winner of the first Deadliest Warrior: Oblivion tournament. If a champion could not take out Crazy Jim, who could?

I think the only hope left is Completely Sane Jane.
I wonder if Crazy Jim's sword is too powerful aswell, I mean its dealing 42 damage, and coupled with the Reflect Damge, Jim is just beast.

Actually Barahir had the stronger sword and a notably higher Blade skill. But what he didn't have is 50% Resist Magic and 50% Spell Absorption. So while Barahir had a higher raw damage output he couldn't match Crazy Jim's defenses.

That's actually Jim's secret. His attack is nothing special, it's merely good. But his defenses are extremely powerful. He actually wins his matches by simply staying alive while he steadily chips away at his opponent's health. He also doesn't have any real weaknesses. If you want to beat him you have to do what he does, only better.

Jane is almost the same as Jim except that she has more speed and less strength and damage reflection, and her sword will probably deal a bit more damage per hit to Jim's skeleton than he does to hers, since his sword uses frost, to which skeletons have substantial resistances. Since both of them use spell absorption, I expect it will partially just be the luck of the draw. Either way, I bet it will be one of the better fights.

They have the same amount of Reflect Damage and yes, the fight was one of the better ones.

I was wrong though when I said Jim doesn't have any weaknesses. He does have one weakness, but I forgot about it when I was writing my previous post. He is well protected against physical and magical attacks, but has no protectio nagainst poison. I was actually surprised that nobody really took advantage of it.

THE FOURTH TRIAL

The 4th avenger was Howgood Arearchers the Bosmer Archer. He wasn't tall, but his aim was true.

Then again, his true aim didn't do him much good when he switched to melee.

Howgood's main problem is that he was built to be as lethal as possible with the bow, but he only got to fire 1 or 2 arrows before he switched to melee. So yes, a summon that would distract Jim & his skeleton would have helped. And if he had a combat style which would make him use his bow until he ran out of arrows that would also help.

The suspense is KILLING ME!!!!

And from what we've seen so far Crazy Jim is killing everybody else. :P

I found it vaguely amusing in the second fight where Jim said 'You're outmatched elf!' and then gave him what looked like a slight knock with the sword, Howgood fell.
