dean's electronics - origin

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:58 am

Hi,

I just want to bounce an idea around regarding the origin of dean's electronics. Is it possible the name came from MacGyver's Richard Dean Anderson; since the character portrayed as an extraordinaire fix-man. Some people have disagreed, but I'm still curious to hear other opinions since there are also no reasons to prove it otherwise.

In Australia there is a (Name likely to be removed by the Autocensor, but is a recognised nickname for Richard) Smith's Electronics brand, who for a while (and perhaps still do) created starter kits for learning electronics.

I don't like the RDA theory myself - Choising his middle name seems a bit odd, and the Fallout series true McGyver series is the man himself - RDA provided the voice for Killian Darkwater.

I'm not familiar with Smith's Electronics, but my reasoning for RDA is quite simple. The TV series was well known, and perhaps the creative department wants some subtlely. Don't you think there's even a slight chance?

It could very well be named after him. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Killian_Darkwater was voiced by Richard Dean Anderson. It is possible the Devs met him and loved MacGyver. So as tribute they came up with Deans Electronics. Only ones that can answer this are the Devs from Fallout one, maybe some of the Devs from New Vegas can.

I was just adding one and one together but that's exactly what I thought of, even more so after I knew Anderson's been voicing the series before. Ideally I should confirm this but sadly I don't have a mean to reach the devs. That's why I try to bounce the idea on this forum hoping that someone would eventually came up with a solid confirmation.

The original dev team was from California right? There's a Dean's Electronics in San Fernando. They've been there since before the first Fallout game. Maybe they fixed one of the Black Isle guys printers once.

Seems possible. Interplay were at Irvine at the time, and Google estimates the driving time to be between 1 and 2 hours depending on traffic and route... In Australia, we'd call that a "Short Drive".

So now we have three speculations, two real world Electronics and the imaginary one from a television series. Now if only there are employees from the electronic businesses play Fallout 3 and spent some time on this forum :)
