Dear EA and Crytek,

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 12:25 am

Releasing games on different dates based on region is nothing new. But regardless, it's getting increasingly more unbearable. And today, I've had enough of this ****. This is where I draw the line.

The digital versions of Crysis 2 can not be preloaded before launch. That's right. Not only do us Europeans have to wait 3 more days for the release, we can't even as much as preload the game. That's just pathetic. Homefront, Bulletstorm and even Crysis Warhead was available for preload, to name a few titles. Why not Crysis 2?

And the fact that we can't preload the game isn't even the main problem here. It's the fact that, today, in the age of the internet, we have regional restrictions for digital downloads. This would perhaps make sense for physical copies of the game, not downloadable digital copies.

Further to this, there are already people playing this game on the XBOX and PS3.

So I ask you, why do you do this to your customers? We pay just as much and actually, in most cases, EVEN MORE than the US customers and we still have to wait longer to be able to play the game? How is this fair? And why are you doing this?

Thanks
Iceman

It's something to do with laws here in Europe, don't know the specifics of it but I'm afraid it's out of Crytek's hands as far as the release day goes. But yeah, why we can't pre-load the game already is beyond me.

No law dictates when you are able to release your game (2 or 3 days after it is released in the NA).

Google that up because I realy don't feel like it, but I've seen this subject come up multiple times on several ocasions and I'm pretty sure it's about laws and friday releases.

It appears to be just a sales tracking company that's causing this issue. Get your **** together and sync the God damned start of the week across the globe. Jesus.

And that shouldn't affect digital downloads, as they only track physical copies.

I don't see sense here either. All the copies are already here, mine will be delivered today (even though i live in EU), so what's the problem?
Good thing is that i'll probably be able to play it now, but still.

Do they not think that regional restrictions offsetting dates encourages piracy. Because it obviously does if it becomes available illegally 1st.

That dosent make any sense either... why release movies, games, music and what not at different times around the world?
Especially games and movies enhances the piracy... if i know that a movie been out for 3 months in U.S and it's still weeks til it arrives in my country, but i know that i can get it this minute... why not do it?

I **** hate that almost always the U.S get's to play the game 3-5 days before me.. why? Why on earth should other countries wait an extra 3 days? Whats the point? Seriously.

Wholeheartedly agree with the whole OP, but especially with this ^ part. Could pick up my copy on Monday, then the activator flipped me the bird saying it'll be available on March 22, 1am - when that time came, it flipped me the bird once again by saying it'll only be available on the 24th. Why the #&@!% is everyone outside the USSA/NA punished just for not living there???

Not to mention the day 1 XP boost of the limited edition is quite as good as invalid this way - by the time we can actually start to play with our lvl 5 characters, servers will be swarmed with ppl who've already finished the game twice and have at least lvl 20 characters.

Just like with Crysis, I considered the sequel the one game to buy in 2011, if someone only buys one a year (because not everyone can afford a dozen each month); but with this, I'm feelin' seriously offended and cheated.

Thank you very much.

EA has destroyed yet another great team Crytek...(after many, Westwood, Bullfrog, Origin)Its now all because of money, thats the reason we on PC now have console port... Second, the game isnt finished at all, no dx11 , they where hurried up by EA... To much bad thing happaned for us players about Crysis2.

regional times are more necessary so not every one downloads at the same time

the game is 7gig or something, imagine 100000 people all downloading at the same time, and so far i know direct download is not torrent based

News flash, there are different servers for different regions. The game is nearly 10GB in size, as far as I know. That's a lot. This is precisely why we need a pre-load at the very least.

Now, lets talk about EA Store. I, once more, have been burned by making a purchase through EADM. And I just want to make a point here - I am NEVER going to buy ANYTHING from EADM again, period. That is simply the ****, most unreliable online games service you can find.

Why? Well, lets take this into consideration... On Steam, Crysis 2 releases on the 24th for Europe. Further to this, they also provide a pre-load option. Now with EADM, you have to wait 'til the 25th to actually be able to download your game. And not just any time on the 25th, 12:00 PM PST time. Not our local time. Additionally, with my connection, it will take some 7 hours to download the game. So, that's 24 hours plus 12 hours plus 7 hours. That's almost two full days later than how long it would take for me to get it through Steam. And with Steam, I could actually pre-load the game!

I've sticked with EADM through the good and bad times, but this is it. I won't take any more **** from them. From here on after, it's strictly Steam only.

The least they could do is have a pre-load option for the game. Instead, the game's cover art doesn't even show up in EADM for me. Nothing. It's like I never even purchased the game.

for me its not so much a problem with having to wait a few extra days, its that most of the time it turns out to be alot longer of a wait than anticipated. I′ve said it before and I′ll say it again, Friday is a terrible release date for a video game, because if my pre-order gets delayed by a day, its effectively now been delayed 3 days, through the whole weekend. Wtf am I supposed to do during the weekend? Get a life and socialize? F that.

Valve do it all the time on steam. It's rarely an issue now.

Also, pre-loads solve that issue.
