Oh dear, are we playing as Martin?

Hmm...This thread is making me wonder if the PC in TES VI will be a sidekick or hero again...

I don't think I could stand to play as a sidekick again after being a Dragonborn. Unless, of course, Esbern ends up hogging all the glory >_>

You probably do :P

But still... there is a reason behind everything and the plot is way too general at this point for us to judge it... From "Dragonborn, Alduin, Dragons, Dead King, Civil War" I'm sure it would expand and that's where the similarities would disappear..

And I'm sure that even if it was a bit similar, you'd still buy the game ;)

Of course, I never said I wouldn't. :)
All I'm saying is that I'm concerned about the similarities in the main quest.

I honestly don't care. Skyrim is going to be an amazing game because of the new engine, better combat system, more lifelike NPCs, hand-made dungeons, and new skill system just to name a few things. Don't focus only on the actual story of the main quest when there are so many other great things and so much else to do other than the main quest. Skyrim's main quest could be about looking for your lucky sock and I would still play it.

*This* Champion of Cyrodiil was never Martin's sidekick. Martin wasn't the Hero of Kvatch, Martin was not with me when I went into the Great Gate at Bruma and he wasn't with me when I closed all those other Oblivion gates and eliminated Mankar Camoran against great odds. If I had stayed home instead of going to Emperor's Way and the Temple District with him and healing him all the way to the end and fighting the Daedra, it's likely that Mehrunes Dagon would have succeeded. Martin needed encouraging throughout for the crisis to be resolved until the very end but the Champion of Cyrodiil was the hero and that shouldn't be minimized. :)

He may very well end up doing so. On the wall that recounts past events it is written that it took three people to subdue Alduin.

Well sure they're similar storylines if you simplify em like that. The same could be said of a lot of stories. Like morrowinds almost like the bible.. Prophesied hero appears, casts down false gods, saves the world and is supposed to free the natives from their oppressors but doesn't. Also betrayed by close friend(s), (although beforehand).

I think the PC will be the main hero, but there will be a dragon break and all knowleage of his actions will be lost.
