Dear Devs: Please remember the female players

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:56 am

snip

All those points sound good. I too would like a writable journal for the PC version so I can remember things better since my memory isn't that great at times.
As for "dumbing down" the game, I don' t consider having an optional difficulty slider dumbing it down. It's there for anyone who chooses to use it. An example of the game being "dumbed down" is like when they put in quest markers and it not really being optional (quest journal entries weren't descriptive enough on their own to know where to find things/ destinations). Morrowind had a difficulty slider of sorts, so I don't know why they would take it out for Skyrim.

Dear devs, you heard the women's side, now it's our turn:

1) Player CASTLES. Why would I want anything less than that?
2) Mead halls. Come on, you promised.
3) Tavern Fights. And lots of drunken Nords!
4) Like, really manly armor. I want steel and dead animals wrapped around my muscles.
5) Emotional simplicity. None of that romance crap.
6) Charging a dragon by horse in a real epic way. Maybe on several horses because they die from exhaustion, that would be awesome.

This. :P

Also, I'd like to have all those things that OP said.

@ Walex: You know, I'd like to see a scantily dressed female in a TES game anyway. The last one's were in Morrowind, I think? I don't remember seeing a single scandalous woman in Oblivion.

Look at the shrine of Sheogorath :).
They should definately add a brothel or so like there was in Morrowind.

I've always wondered about that. Like, here I am exploring a dungeon... oh, snap, is that cramping I feel coming on? Dilemma: do I continue beasting goblins, or do I go find a bush to hide behind? Luckily, games always seem to bypass that particular part of a woman's life...

Also, BGS has become rather... prudish since Morrowind. Daggerfall had stuff in it that would make Jack Thompson flip his lid. Morrowind was far more subdued. And Oblivion even morseo like you said. In Fallout 3, it goes back into an uptick of sorts, but it still is rather prudish compared to its outsourced cousin, New Vegas.

Eh, statues don't count. xP

I agree. I feel like there was less in Oblivion to make it feel like a real society. Brothels are pretty much a world wide thing, as is gambling and drugs. Morrowind had most of that down, and it felt familiar - like the scummy world we're in right now, only cooler. Oblivion felt unbelievable because it was missing those elements.

@ MadCat: Aside from that all being totally true, it did have a bit of scientific truth to it near the end: probably our female characters (the ones whose skills are rooted in melee/physical attributes anyway) are too muscled to have menstrual cycles. And some sense is made!

I do hope that they will remember the female gender in general - as in female looking female bodies, separate animations for walking, sitting and so on, female morphs for clothing and armor, and by that I don't mean scanty clad, but generally different silhouette.
And since we are talking about "girly" things - long, properly animated hair, and good character generation please.
I second all the OPs points, don't know if I'm being stereotypical, but I'm female and I like them. Well, maybe except for banking, I don't really care about it, but I woun't mind if they have it in :)

Oh, and I'd add being saved by a knight in shiny armor at last once a day, but I hate the clunky bastards, so let's skip on that this time around :D

Or actually she is not completely nvde, she wears a helmet. ;)

Yeah, but the underwear isn't even pretty... and helmets sort of detract from sixiness in general, haha.

Separate animations are back in Fallout 3 again; walking, sitting, running (but not gun holding). Pretty much everything except the power armor suits (which are so big and bulky anyway) have sixually dimorphic appearances.

Still on the same gender non-descript animation skeleton rig though, so the shoulders are a bit wide.

That's hopefully an indicator that sixually dimorphic animations will be back for Skyrim.

Haha, why thank you. But yeah, I'd like to see more of the seedy underworld type activities. Hell, if we're going to be completely gender equal, let's get some near-naked men in there. Of course, the BGS might not enjoy creating some dancing, tasseled, male strippers, seeing as I'm sure the staff is all/mostly guys. Could be wrong about that, though.

That may be so, but Fallout is not Skyrim, so I can't stress the issue enough - I don't want them to decide that while in Fallout with it's rent girls it matters, in Skyrim it's a story about DRAGONS, so why bother with female models, everyone is supposed to be saving the world, not looking at npcs *eye roll* that seams to be favorite Bethesda approach to NPCs and player appearance in general so far.

some of that stuff is steriotypical
and the main reason that girl gamers are "fogotten" is they are only 1/3 of gamers

I don't see how these issues/suggestions are only related to female players.

Edit, I do agree with all your suggestions but #4. :)

This, except I love #4. Having an armor set or clothing set on hotkey would be epic goodness. I could have my town clothes and my armor separate and equip all at once.

And I'm a guy, so.. this stuff isn't exclusive to female interests. If any of those things are in Skyrim, I'll be happy. If all, I'll be ecstatic.

Only because they are mostly guys doesn't mean that...well...you know... ;)

I think that the mukti-item hotkey hopefully works with weapons too. With this new dual wield system, hotkeys as they are wouldn't work.

Oh, yes please, if they insist on including a brothel or a dance club I have nothing against it, as long as things are kept equal - my general approach to "objectifying the females" is it's Ok, as long as we have an option of objectifying the males right back :D

To MadCat221 - nothing irrational, I don't want to assume that things that are not confirmed are in, just because they where in some other game. For me Fallout is an epic failure, if I thought that Skyrim would resemble Fallout to much I wouldn't even be on this forum. For now I have not seen a single screeshot confirming that female armor looks female, or that ladies actually get a feminine figure, not square shoulders and same male skeleton. Or that faces look good this time around, and facegen is workable which is wasn't in Fallout. And btw, Fallout females looked horrid and awkward for the most part, especially in dress, I would like something better for Skyrim.
