Dear Devs: Please remember the female players

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 12:17 pm

There are a few things that I absolutely love about TES games that IN GENERAL, most men wouldn't care about. Here is my list of things I hope that are in Skyrim that would greatly enhance my personal gaming experience as a mature female player:

1. Houses. I loved having my houses in Daggerfall forward. Of all TES series, Obilvion had the best ways to decorate the house but it was extremely clumsey (took me 30 minutes to get all my useless keys into a bowl on the table). It would be nice if decorating was a bit easier to do. Perhaps have some furniture choices or the ability to pick a color for draqes, etc.

2. Banking. I loved banking in Daggerfall. It was much more realistic to have to deposit gold into the bank and withdraw it to spend it. The loan thing was fun too. Perhaps some enhancement to that as well.

3. Clothing. It really bugged me that when I put a robe on in Oblivion, I looked exactly like a man. To look like a lady, I basically had to put a dress on.

4. Clothing/armor SETS. It would be nice to be able to keep a set of armor or a set of town clothing on a key so I could switch between the two more easily.

5. Journaling. It would be nice to have the ability to keep a written journal in game. Something to keep my own notes, reminders to check something out later, questions as I move through the world and don't want to forget to work on.

6. Voice consistancy. It was really annoying to talk to a begger who had a scratchy voice when they asked for for a coin. When you asked them a question, their voice completely changed - it was a totally different actor.

And for me personally as a moderate combat player who more enjoys the story line, beautiful graphics, emersion into the game world as opposed to dying all the time, please keep the "difficulty" slider. Someone had suggested that they don't "dummy down the game" but have the ability to dummy it down if you want/need to. I thought this was a great feature in Oblivion and when my character got too buff to make anything a challange, I would notch the slider up a bit to spice things up.

Side note: I absolutely love what I've read and seen so far. I will drive my family NUTS talking about this game for the next 10 months!

I don't see how these issues/suggestions are only related to female players.

Edit, I do agree with all your suggestions but #4. :)

I don't really see what that has to do with having female genitalia, but alright, sounds good.

I WOULD BET A 1000$ THIS TOPIC WILL REACH 5 PAGES+ BECAUSE IT'S STARTED BY A FEMALE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Cant see any very female things here, not counting the cloth thing. But overall, all sensible suggestions that I support.

^ ha!.... It shall be so because you said something :P

Anywho, I agree with your suggestions, especially about the decorating your house thing. It drove me nuts to have the fighters strong hold, with all those display racks for your weapons... you can't get anything in there! It's like they put them there just to taunt us. The only weapons I could get to stay were the thin katana like weapons... I had pretty weapons that I can't carry... they should be where I can see them not stuck in a chest, that's all I am saying.

But anyway, yes, you have good suggestions.

Yeah. It'd be nice if in Skyrim, we can wear clothes AND armor again. That was extremely irritating. Plus I enjoyed the many different wardrobe styles available in Daggerfall and Morrowind. Oblivion lacked clothing!

I guess I specifically mentioned this from the perspective of a female is that what I've been reading largely is directed to and from the males of the gaming world. The reason I capitalized IN GENERAL is because that's how I see most of those items as it pertains to the differences in the male and female species. I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I just wanted my own personal voice to be heard and what I love so much about the games to not be lost.

As a lady myself, I'd like to add something to what you said about clothing. It would be really nice if pants and skirts are totally separate items. If it is pants on a man, its pants on a woman. Same with skirts, well I suppose it could be a kilt on a man. But I'd like to be able to wear pants occasionally.

I think customizable and comprehensive hotkeys would be awesome, so I could put on/off my entire suit of armor with one quick hotkey press.

In Morrowind the skirts looked cool on male characters when combined with armor. Gave some sort of Paladin/Templar look.

Actually, out of all the suggestion threads(and despite this not really being specific to female gamers) I agree with everything mentioned and I hope we do see them in the game. I never got into decorating my house in Oblivion... I just it just didn't feel the same as what I had in Morrowind, but its something I certainly hope to see in Skyrim again. Clothes/Armor sets on hotkeys would be nice too. I'm not totally sure everything needs a female counterpart, but I agree most clothing items should.

Your suggestion are good the house decorations i want.
But if they add to much it will then Stop being an RPG an then become more like a Sim.
But i wouldn't mind vast customization but only unto a certain limit before it becomes a sim.

Then just say it's your opinion, not women's. The idea that the main wishes of female gamers is to be able to decorate their house and change outfits is a bit insulting.

Well I'm pretty sure point 6 won't happen again in Skyrim.

But I want to see everything you suggested in Skyrim, especially the personalization/customization stuff.

Yes this isn't a female only issue, aside from the journaling which I wouldn't mind, all these things are important to me as well. Really the voice consistency is a major nag, but it'd be nice to have a bank and get interest and loans, but it's also not that important. Housing decorating is important to me. Only like to add one thing, when putting clothing into a wardrobe I would like you to consider making it (like apple as y'all said) to where you can scroll through your cloths with ease and see how they look. Also please I hope you have added a larger variety of cloths and armor. I really like to dress in regular cloths.

Did you really find it insulting? I'm basically a dude, I mean in the sense of my personality yet I didn't find that insulting in the least :/

Honestly if it wont garner Bethesda any more income and wont matter to the vast majority of fans, I doubt they would implement something.
