Dear Splash Damage...

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:35 am

Hi,

I've been a fan of Splash Damage since the heady days of Enemy Territory, so of course I was enthusiastic to SD's latest offering BRINK...

but...

if I wan't to play with friends on a public server, I don't want to have to join a server and then invite them in, or hope they can join my session in progress, it's total madness.

We all know you wanted this seamless blend between single and multiplayer, but as it is at the moment, it's a total hassle and I'm sure is driving people back to other games of the same
genre, which have a much easier system.

All you need to do is drop in a super simple lobby system, just so friends can 'party up' before heading online. Nobody would hate you for it, the option will please more people than anger people. You don't even have to call it a lobby system, call it what you like, but please get this implemented as soon as possible.

On another note, if this isn't going to happen, please do say. Me and my friends can then reminisce about this great game (once you get in there with your friends), which had a total hassle of a route to get there, whilst we are playing 'the next shooter with a lobby system and great gameplay'. New maps and some clothing options in the upcoming DLC will not fix this promising but flawed game, a lobby system will.

Also, drop the bots, nobody wants to play against a.i online, if we wanted to do that I could load up Quakeworld and some Frogbots. Humans v Humans via the magic of the internet is what we like.

You're the 1million-th person to complain of these issues, and you're the 1million-th person I agree with. Fix the lag, add lobbies/server browser, and drop the bots in multi and we'll have a great game in our hands :liplick:

Hi,

I've been a fan of Splash Damage since the heady days of Enemy Territory, so of course I was enthusiastic to SD's latest offering BRINK...

but... If you are writing to SD, you may want to post this on their forums.

if I wan't to play with friends on a public server, I don't want to have to join a server and then invite them in, or hope they can join my session in progress, it's total madness. I dont find it a hassle at all ... find a server with space, invite my pals, play. Easy as pie.

We all know you wanted this seamless blend between single and multiplayer, but as it is at the moment, it's a total hassle and I'm sure is driving people back to other games of the same
genre, which have a much easier system. How exactly is the blend between single/mp/co-op a "total hassle" - explain yourself.

BRINK is just out and a patch is coming this week and free DLC next month ... patience.

Also, drop the bots, nobody wants to play against a.i online, if we wanted to do that I could load up Quakeworld and some Frogbots. Humans v Humans via the magic of the internet is what we like. You know, you can set up a server to run MP sans bots right?

As KOMBATWOMBAT posted, I can hear the world's tiniest violins playing for you.

I would LOVE to play public multiplayer without the ninja bots! I would do private MP but none of my friends bought Brink due to the multitude of problems. I checked the game types, but they seem to force 8v8 down your throat which is horrible for such a laggy game! Notice that no matter how bad you lag, the ninja bots don't have a problem shooting you! haha

So how do I set up a public MP game on XBox 360, TrenchKnife?

Thanks in advance!

This is 2011, Multiplayer gaming has evolved greatly since the days of having to manually invite friends to servers. For a game which is focused on teamplay not to have a lobby is a massive oversight. Let's hope it's fixed.

We all know you wanted this seamless blend between single and multiplayer, but as it is at the moment, it's a total hassle and I'm sure is driving people back to other games of the same

I beleive the entire reason we don't have a lobby system is because it gives a distinct break between single and multiplayer, and Splash Damage themselves have promoted this game on the basis of it being a blend of the two.

On another note, if this isn't going to happen, please do say. Me and my friends can then reminisce about this great game (once you get in there with your friends), which had a total hassle of a route to get there, whilst we are playing 'the next shooter with a lobby system and great gameplay'. You do not release a game which seems to a lot of people to be unfinished. Please keep it back a couple of months, take a look at Valve, they only release a game once polished to the highest degree. I really wonder what the SD Quality Assurance / Play Testers were doing, as this game went gold with a lot of issues. I guess they were just all playing it locally on a server and having a great time. A beta would have been perfect for this game.

Also, drop the bots, nobody wants to play against a.i online, if we wanted to do that I could load up Quakeworld and some Frogbots. Humans v Humans via the magic of the internet is what we like. You know, you can set up a server to run MP sans bots right?

Yep I know that is indeed possible, the only issue is that so many people have already been turned off by this game, and with the MW3 trailer going live yesterday, I can imagine a LOT of people have left already.

I can see the PC community, giving this game a longer lifespan as the patch/update culture is a lot more widespread on that platform.

By the way I love the core game, it's just getting there is not a great experience.

It would be very interesting to see user stats and how they have changed since launch.

I'm sorry, but the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-t0lBhTy0I was on YouTube in 2007. (EDIT: Forgot to mention... It's older than YouTube)

I know what you're talking about, but please avoid insulting a truly great game by stealing the acronym for something that so badly pales in comparison.

Also, on-topic, I agree with most of what you've said, except that the PC and PS3 communities are still holding up pretty well in Brink.

MW3 trailer in 2007? You do realise I mean Modern Warfare 3 right? The official MW3 trailer was revealed during the NBA Conference finals last night.

I can see the PC community holding up the longest of the three by far.

No. I didn't realise what you meant. That's why I pre-empted that question by explaining that I did. http://www.isheepthings.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/facepalm.jpg (the facepalm is a relevant link, by the way)

MW3 and BRINK are two differnt game style COD gamers generallly dont like it

im cool with that because most cod gamers hold their controllers like they have arthtritus, im thinkn i could beat generally about 90% of them

i have notice people that play brink are true hardcoe gamers and never give up and adapt improvis and overcome but in cod i have counter sniped snipers with pistols its relitivly painstaking how most cod gamers just blow
