Dearest Jeremy Soule... Isn't this a bit... Derivative?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:56 am

Go to this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrIYT-MrVaI and skip to 1:30 and listen to the end.

So what does it remind me of?

I'm going to let others make the connection to see what happens :)

Me too. I don't find it even remotely similar to anything of Jeremy Soule's....

If you're implying that this sounds like the Nords in the trailer theme, you're the only person who thinks this way. That's the only connection I can draw between this and anything of Jeremy Soule's.

Although classic Jeremy Soule sounded close to John Williams.

The fact that the OP has still not replied constitutes an all-out troll!

Well it's the same instrumentation basically... Men's choir accompanied by orchestra... But other than that, it's not even in the same style...

No, I was lost on YouTubeTimeSink

Anyway, noone sees the obvious thematic similarity to our anticipated game's theme? At all?

As a musician, I may be more tuned into the frequency so to speak, but I'd think more people could relate the two.

Yeah, what? It has different melody, rythm, tempo, and pattern. The only similarity to any Skyrim music that Soule has done is that both use an orchestra? Would you like to point out in more detail whats similiar other than, "I'm a musician, so I'm more turned to frequency." I'm rather music savvy too, and I hear no relation...

I'm a music major in college studying composition... That being said, there's hardly any similarity between the two...

There's prolly 20 other classical songs you could match that up with too. Hell, the first time I heard/watch the trailer I thought "God, this sounds just like the Hunt for Red October's theme song".

Bit of a stretch

The Morrowind theme does resemble one of the tunes from Gustav Holst's "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity." But it's merely a resemblance, and they're different enough to be well outside of plagiarism.

Im a musician and a audiophile who listens to ALOT of classical ( haydn and scarlatti are awesome ) these tracks have almost nothing in common. If anyone here is looking for good classical , i just picked up rachmaninoff's symphonic dances from the Minnesota orchestra from Reference recordings and it is amazing ( especially the first movement.

It seems your frequency is not tuned in.

I would say it's a difference in culture. Being fostered in a socialist world where there's a very low threshold for plagiarism, I forgot to modulate my message to an American audience, where such things are applauded as long as money is generated.

My bad.

The only thing I've heard is that the Oblivion theme has a part that sounds vaguely like Pirates of the Caribbean.

But other than that, nothing has sounded like Julian Soule to me except for Jeremy Soule. His music in Guild Wars sounded too similar to what he did for Oblivion. It may also be that his music just isn't that memorable. Good, but nothing that left me with that certain feeling of uniqueness and mastery, except just recently with the Skyrim Theme.
