Death animations?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 12:20 pm

Hey guys! Was just curious if anyone ELSE is curious about death animations.

Do you all think they will rag-doll like in Fallout 3/New Vegas? Maybe they could clutch at the wound for a bit before dropping?

Do you think the disintegration/liquidation animations are going to be updated?

Will there be stealth kill animations?

And on a slightly less MORBID and totally unrelated note: Do you think we'll be able to rename Dogmeat?

Sorry if I have that "first post newb" smell :)

Well so far we both seen and heard that just like Skyrim, there are occasions where both you the player and enemies can trigger kill animations.

Disintegrations look to have been updated with glowy bones as opposed to critters turning into hollow ashen shells. The super mutant killed at the docks in the combat trailer looked to have been animated, as did the mole rats. It looks better than the ragdolls of the previous two entries.

I know I'm just really super excited for the disintegration/liquidation animations. Laser weapons in 3/New Vegas were my thing. :)

I just hope it isn't the 'stumble and keel over' death animation we saw in Skyrim. It looked ridiculous.

Dogmeat ehhhh, hope you can rename him but I doubt it. Be cool if you could equip him with mods like old Rex!!!

I think I saw while I was watching some of the pre-released or leaked footage a deathclaw kill the player by lifting him into the air and impaling him with its claw.

well in the stuff from e3, the dog was originally called Dog, and then later on is named Dogmeat, so I'm just going to guess that you can name the dog whatever you want. Dogmeat is a tie in to the dog of the same name from Fallout 1 and 2, as well as Fallout 3. its a nostalgia name more than anything.

On Topic:

I'm hoping to see some more VATS kill cams, I always liked those.

I'd love Skyrim-esque kill animations even with guns.

Person is within melee distance of you and meets requirements to trigger a kill animation:

- Your character dodges slightly to the side real quick raising the gun to the enemies chin and pulling the trigger,

- Just raising the gun to their forehead after a pistol whip

- Knee capped, and then shot once or twice to finish

Just really nice to look at and fun to execute ones like Skyrim had.

Hoping kill animations aren't pushed too much to the wayside due to Fallout being more gun focused.

Something blending ragdolls and animations together can work really well. Im sure a lot of people here have played Left 4 Dead, and the zombies in that game don't just ragdoll the second they're killed, they often have stuff for coming to a stop from that full tilt running they do that blends ragdolls and pre-baked animations together.

For Fallout I would love to see the limb damaging stuff get some of that treatment. Pop a guy in the head and he's probably clutching his skull in pain while taking wildly inaccurate shots with his off hand. Disable the legs and drop him to the ground, having him hobble along the terrain on his stomach while still taking shots with whatever weapon he has. Animation has never really been Bethesda's strong suit, but with the giant mountain of money they made off of Skyrim they can put a lot of time, manpower, and money towards various aspects that may not have been feasible before.

well we already know ghouls can keep coming at you with their legs/arms blown off so im sure there will be reactions from non ghoul enemies as well for hitting different parts.

I'd like some nice cool death sense for enemies but not overly bothered about the PC as it's just a reload point so why waste effort

The way we minigunned down the raiders in the Power Armor sequence, some of those raiders had the same little death animation, where they'd raise their arms up and sort of flail a bit before dropping. It almost looked like one of the comical death animations from the first two games.

edit: the animation I'm talking about is in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrX-QT19Ro0 at 3:52 and twice at 4:02. That's definitely an animation; maybe even locked in with Bloody Mess. So there aren't just Skyrim-style kill-cams, I don't think.

I am really hoping to see a lot of death animations outside of the kill animations. Like an enemy clutching his throat after being shot there and falling to his knees. Or spinning and falling after being clipped in the side.

I think from what we have seen in the trailers, we can expect something like this, but I am hoping it is expanded upon.

Honestly hoping for more variety in the death animation - I usually play with energy weapons and those puddles/dust piles get old quick.
