Death Claw ruin the game

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 4:50 pm

I am absolutely pissed of with the game mechanic, i was attack by death claw 3x in 3 access. almost 40% dweller got wipe..

left me pennyless and dwelless!!!

I don't understand why everytime i launch the game a pack of them show up. and my dweller is not healed.

Worse part is after it all ended.. all it's left is a empty vault with body and no bottle cap..

could it be more rewarding when we stop a raid? couldn't we just scavenge body of raider for clothes and weapon?

Could we get rewarding for winning for the trouble of killing of a bunch of raider/death claw??!!!!

I spend couple buck in this game for mr handy on 3 separate device, so i hope i can get some bang for my buck...

They're annoying, sure, but they are able to be overcome. Your vault has been wiped so it's a good chance to redesign. To start delete some dwellers so your vault has a population below 60, that'll stop the Deathclaw attacks. If you haven't got dwellers spare to go out and explore for caps then you can send the Mr Handy's. Might take a few days to build up funds, but they can't die in the wasteland so it's guaranteed caps. Invest in your dwellers by raising their Endurance first and then level them up. Redesign your vault so your strongest rooms/dwellers are on the top floor (there's some guides knocking around the forums here).

Use this as a learning experience and you'll start having fun again. Use those things you've invested real money into help you recover (Mr Handy = caps without risk). You'll have a much better connection to your vault after it all.

You sir just told me 2 key info.

MR Handy don't die out in the waste land.. i have a few to spare for caps..

Population under 60 will not get Deathclaw... i can rebuilt my base with the strongest guys position strategicly.

For that I Thank you.

Still some reward for surviving a raid is very much appreciated

Hope someone in development are listening..

Death Claws are easy, you just need to know the tricks of the set up, I have never lost a single dweller or had DC's make it off the top floor (well 1 room but it is made for that) with level 20 dwellers with no stats above 5 and 5-10 damage weapons. You just build single unit with no upgrade rooms, on the top floor with an elevator at the end that goes down to one more single room that is not connected to anything. You put your best dwellers with (strength and endurance) with the best strength armour (if you have) and weapons in each room (you don't need to match the rooms specs, make then what you want). When the DC's come they will go room to room, 1. Very easy to stim only 2 people at a time but they should leave the room before you need to. 2. By the time they reach the last room they only have the option of going back along the CORRIDOR OF DEATH!! Sorry always wanted to say that...anyway worst case scenario they get half way back along the top floor before they die, as weapons get better they die faster.

Done no more DC problem, + do not have a radio room, not worth it when you just make babies and triples the number of DC attacks, which have a trigger % linked to the main door opening or the radio room.

Also don't use the radio of you don't want deathclaws. I have 76 dwellers and have only had a deathclaw attack once so far, and it was pretty easy, bit I don't have a radio room.

Just only have 1 elevator on the first floor or two, and set up the best weapons on all those dwellers. The dearhclaws will get wiped easily.

  1. empty your radio room

  2. don't open the vault for anyone

  3. eliminate second elevator on 1st floor to make a 3+2 gauntlet

  4. populate first floor with E8+ P8+ warriors, preferably in Wasteland Gear

  5. stockpile 40+ Stimpaks for the inevitable Deathclaw attack

Or, keep your population below 60. If you get a legendary dweller in a lunchbox, you might have to off somebody to make room. Drop an elevator shaft 2 levels deep and create a lone production room. Place your dweller in there and rush the room until s/he croaks in a disaster.

Why perception 8? I thought it had been long determined that stats don't matter in the vault except for room production stats.

Why not endurance 10?

I've been finding them pretty annoying, as well - for my newest vault I'm front-loading all my resource rooms toward the top and equipping the top floor with weapons first (it took a bit of doing at the beginning and a lot pre-planning to allow for this, of course - I had to build my living quarters way down, save up tons of money for the elevators required, and then work on destroying those tutorial rooms,) and so far it's been working well. Deathclaws will sometimes go to a floor or two below the entrance but I don't usually lose too many people.

The most annoying things I've run into is when I'm already dealing with dehydration or radiation issues in my Vault (sometimes I grow my population too quick and can't keep up with production until I get over the hump,) and the worst time for a D-Claw attack is when everyone is already at 50% health...

Even when you're prepared, I still find them annoying. I've built my Vault just right to how I like it, with the people I need to populate the rooms properly - and that does mean that just about every single time my vault door opens I'm going to face a D-Claw attack. I think gameplay-wise there does need to be some threat for the end-game, but I have to admit I find their attacks tedious (especially when they're so common) and the interface is just too finicky to do more than just kind of watch the carnage unfold.

if you can not kill them move people around to rooms they already passed through. death claws and raiders will pass through your vault in zig zag until they reach the end then they leave out the front door

i almost expect them to come these days... i have 102 dwellers with 15th floor deep vault. 1st 3 block sector is all for training rooms. the 2nd / middle sector 3 block room is for resources amd 3rd / last 2 block is for everything that is in need. i placed i level trained dwellers in top floors with good weapons. tip is to move the low level dwellers fast to the other rooms and fight off the death claw with that high level well equipped dwellers. one thing i have to mention is that i bought 120 packs (40 X 3) before labor day discount (it was like day before. was so frustrated)

I agree with OP, I was thinking of starting a thread on this topic. Deathclaws are too powerful and their attacks too frequent.

RE: Mr Handy. I've got 3 Vaults running. One for a little over 2 weeks, and two for about 10 days each. Although I've received dozens of lunch boxes through achieving objectives, and even purchased 15 of them, I haven't gotten a single Mr. Handy. So the only way I see of obtaining a Mr. Handy is to purchase a 5-pack.

RE: Deathclaw Death Pit Gauntlet of Death. Each of my Vaults has a different variation of this, and although it is an effective way to deal with Deathclaws, attacks always leave me extremely low on Stimpaks and Radaways, and if a Deathclaw somehow escapes the Death Trap, several deceased Dwellers as well. No sooner do I rebuild a "stockpile" of a couple dozen Stimpaks and Radaways than another Deathclaw attack happens that depletes them again (not to mention the toll taken by radroaches, molerats and fires). Yesterday one of my Vaults had 4 Deathclaw attacks within 2 hours. Bottom line is that although I'm able to survive the attacks, I'm unable to stockpile enough Stimpaks and Radaways to send Dwellers out into the Wasteland.

So I agree with OP, it would be nice if the Deathclaw Attack mechanics could be tweaked to be a little kinder to newer Vaults. And maybe increase the probability of a lunchbox containing a Mr. Handy.

Got my first DC attack at 61 dwellers and I was surprised how easy they were to put down, not a single dweller got killed and last two DCs died in second room. But I have been preparing for them by equipping dwellers at first 2 floors with the best weapons etc. and I guess DCs get tougher with time like raiders having better and better weapons. I don't have radio room as it seems useless to me so maybe DCs aren't appearing that frequetly.
