Death squads

Post » Tue Jun 11, 2013 6:48 am

Ok in Skyrim I had a few 'brute' show up from time to time to teach me a lesson. I get that.

But these Legion death squads are dang murder. I started getting them at fairly low level. I went to some town where they had crucified some gang members. Now I killed plenty of gang members myself but playing a good character I felt this was wrong. The head Legion guy said he would leave me as a witness, but if I had issues with it I could try to kill them ... so I shot him in the face ... and he lived. That turned into an interesting battle to say the least.

However, now from time to time these death squads randomly appear and I'm fighting tooth and nail to survive. I did get a pardon once, but then when I went to visit I just killed all the Legionaries I saw (on my way to destroy House's depot) and now they are after me again.

I guess I can assume that as long as my Rep is low with this group this will continue right?

The last group made the mistake of showing up while I was approaching that building with the solar panels. The NCR there started a battle with them and all I had to do was sit back and watch. Course they did kill the NCR lieutenant there so I hope he wasn't needed for something.

So what other groups will do this if my rep gets too low? I think I read that the NCR does it. What about gangs and stuff as I pretty much shot them on site.

Thanks.

Only the Legion and NCR will send hit squads after you. I don't know if there is a sure-fire way to make it stop after you get your pardons, but I didn't have any Legion Assassins after me after wiping out the Fort.

You can wipe out the fort? I killed everyone outside and the few guarding the Mr. House depot, but I didn't go into the main building (I figured I'd get wasted). Is there any way to go back now and take care of that? I doubt they'll let me borrow their boat again.

The NCR is more forgiving than the Legion, but if your reputation with them drops low enough, they'll declare you a terrorist and will send squads of NCR Rangers out to kill you as well. Mr. House or Yes Man do not send hit squads after you.

Yes, you can enter the Fort and kill all the Legionaires inside, even Caesar himself. I'm not sure if you can go back to do this, though. Maybe by fast travel.

You can still take the boat back. The Legionaries respawn though, so prepare for more intense fighting.

I've destroyed the fort (and killed Caesar) and still had the death squads come after me.

Don't worry- eventually you'll get better equipment. Once that happens, you'll start curbstomping the death squads. Until then, I'd suggest you make heavy use of fast-travel to minimize possible exposure to the death squads.

Also, they don't come for you while in a DLC-added area. So, if you're at level 20-25, and have all the DLCs, I'd suggest you start 'em up (Dead Money, then Honest Hearts, then Old World Blues, and finally Lonesome Road.) By the time you finish, those Death Squads will be pushovers.

Well I've been sticking with Light Armor as I am for some reason loaded down with loot all the time anyway SS bottles mostly. But all I got is the armored leather (or whatever) and it doesn't offer much protection. For light armor I get shot up a lot.

First of all, I'd suggest getting rid of the SS bottles and any other worthless loot items you're dragging around. Free up that inventory space for more valuable (and useful) items. Many of the random clutter items in this game aren't worth picking up. And don't forget about your companions and their pack mule abilities.

Second, get yourself a home where you can store stuff. If you haven't been to the Strip yet, the best bet for such a place is Novac, the town with the big dinosaur. For 100 caps, you can rent a hotel room there and it's yours to keep for the rest of the game. The suitcase by the door is NOT safe storage, but every other container in the room is safe.

I'll have to keep an eye out for them in my current game. I was in the clear for 2 playthroughs on my xbox, but am now playing on pc.

Really? I've never lost anything I put in the suitcase. I usually dump all my kill loot in there for around a week, then repair it all and sell it for a nice profit.

I read on the Wiki that the suitcase wasn't safe, so I've just avoided using it. I'll have to try it out with a few crap items the next time I play.

There's houses? I recall a couple in FO3, but I didn't know of any place to live and store loot in FO:NV. I would have never thought to rent a room ... and even if I did I would have assumed it was for a night and not forever.

Once you make it to the Strip, you'll have a chance to get other houses as well. Plus, some of the factions have safehouses that you can get if you raise your reputation high enough with them, and/or complete quests for them (in your case, the Legion Safehouse is probably out of reach though).

Also, as noted, many of the abandoned shacks and houses you encounter can be used as player housing. Unlike TES, most of the containers in New Vegas don't respawn, so they're safe to store items in. Be aware of your "neighbors" in some of these locations, though.

Dang I've been all over the Strip, even killed Mr. House. I don't recall finding anywhere to live. I'll have to go look around some more.

I just realized that you had to have visited the Strip to get the Mark of Caesar. Duh.

House should have offered you the Lucky 38 Presidential Suite when you first talked to him. That's considered to be the "main" player home in the game.

Really? Well I went there and looted the place, but I didn't know I could live there, or use the beds, or have safe storage, etc. Dag nab it. Well place was too high class for my PC anyway I guess. I wonder if Benny's room is available now that he's had that unfortunate accident of running into my fists with his face over and over and over again?

I think your killing too many people. To have the Legion this pissed off at you this early in the game takes some doing. The goal of the game is not to see how many people you can kill, but how many of the ones you want to keep alive that you can keep alive at the end.

You can use the Presidential Suite at the Tops but I don't know about safe storage. The DM bunker and the Sink are good places too, once you've finished the DLC's.

If you got the key to the suite, you should be able to use it. However, you won't be able to store weapons there unless you convinced Swank (in the lobby) to let you carry weapons inside The Tops.

There's another suite you can get at The Tops by winning chips at the casino. Once you've won 7,500 chips, they comp you the suite. The problem there, though, is that the guards will come in and take food and drink items and such that you leave laying about. Plus you'll still have the problem of not being able to store weapons unless you've convinced Swank not to confiscate them.

Another thing about the casinos - if you're going to live in one of them and be in and out of them all of the time, plan on making lots of saves. There are tons of bug reports where confiscated weapons are not returned to you and/or your followers.

Who are you planning to side with in the game, anyway? At this point your only options are the NCR and the independent route through Yes Man, unless you've managed to get the NCR pissed off at you as well.

Want to side with NCR. They can be dikes but I'd rather be ruled by them than robots or the others.

Believe it or not this is my 'good' play-through. I thought a good person would want to kill the Legion. Most everyone else loves me.

You should still be okay then. There's no way to get booted from the independent "faction" - those quests will always be available to allow you to finish the game. If you want to go NCR, I suggest paying Ambassador Crocker a visit at the NCR Embassy on the Strip. He'll get you started on that path.

I don't know if you've run into any of the smaller factions yet (Boomers, Khans, BoS, Kings, etc.), but you will as you work through the NCR quests. There are multiple ways of dealing with these factions, so try to keep your options open as much as possible.

But if I know they are bad, should I not destroy them? That's kind of what got me in the mess with the Legion. They burned a town and crucified people and I thought it was bad so I killed them. They've been hating on me ever since. I am restart the game though and try to play someone who is a little more tolerate, which would make sense based in the game setting and all.

You would think.

Basically, the game goes like this. As far as the MQ. The First Act gets you out of Goodsprings and to the Strip in a round about path that if you follow it, you will arrive at the Lucky 38 around level 10. At this point, you can ignore the MQ or continue with it. The Second Act is gathering information about what is going on in the Mojave and through this you determine who your going to work with. Like you can tell Arcade at one point, "Let's just go talk to Casear, see what he wants, then get out of here". Then, from the second act to the third act is where you start to take irrevocable action against those you want to take action against.

Now, of course you can throw out this path if you want, this is just how it's designed. Also, don't worry, you have to play the game through 4 times to cover each major path.

What I have never done is go against the Legion till they are mad at me, then go see Casear with his Mark. I am not sure how the Legion would handle that combo.

Thanks.

When is a good time to do the DLC then? Can they all be done after the MQ is complete? I don't think I've touched them yet, though it's hard to be sure since they are not exactly flagged as DLC in the quest log.
