deathclaw tips? : Fallout 3

any tips on easier ways to kill deathclaws without wasting my alien ammo?

For Fallout 3? Make a Dartgun. One shot will cripple it's legs. Then you can pick it off at a distance at your leisure.

The gatling laser is your friend. I went through Old Olney with that, only had to use five stimpaks

Get dogmeat or Fawkes, allow the deathclaw to attack them and keep out of the way, then shoot them in the head repeatedly with a shotgun. Easy.

I agree with Buki here. Dartgun rules. You can kill off the deathclaw with a rock and a stick after shooting it once with the dartgun.

Maybe it's my game settings, but I have never seen the dart gun do much do a deathclaw. I usually try to get the Victory Rifle before going to Olney. That will knock them out for about a second, enough time to get in more killing shots.

Head shot from afar with my sniper rifle or the Gauss Rifle with its knockdown effect does it for me.

You can also lead them to an area you can get to but they can't, such as rock mound that doesn't have anything below it. In FO3 there aren't many restrictions as to what you can climb so experiment if you can't use the Dart Gun. I kill them with convential weapons this way

Just a warning though. This might not work in Old Olney.

Man they are easy in normal. Try it in Hard Mode. They will kill you in one scratch from those huge freaking sharp claws.

Climb on a rock that is bigger than him,it will make impossible for him to hit you.Or use the Dart gun like they said.

Snipe from safe distance and contrary to common sense shooting at limbs can be better because a crippled deathclaw is not as dangerous.

Also if your unarmed skill is upto snuff (70 I think) take paralyzing palm. If one does get close. You can go in to vats and que multiple hits. Once its paralyzed take out your main gun and shots to the face

Plasma Rifles, Bottle cap mines, Fatmans, and Lincolns repeater works wonders. Dart gun is good but very cheap IMO.

I never used the dartgun, just built it and put it in my locker. Now I see that I really should have used it. I always used the heavy incinerator for death claws.

If you don't have the Dart Gun yet, just shoot in the legs. This stops them from using their jumping attack. You just have to cripple one leg, so focus your shots. Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Death Claws negate DR, but still damage any armor or clothing you're wearing, so I generally get undressed to fight them. Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm certain they ignore DR, so wearing armor is pointless with Death Claws.

God, I miss the Dart Gun in F:NV. That was always my first go-to option for death claws. My other suggestions include, getting a tanky companion to take the aggro, or you a sniper and hopefully pick them off at a distance.

Sneak attack with the sniper rifle. Boom! And yeah, Dart gun is balls.
