DeathClaws exaggerated?

Post » Wed Sep 23, 2009 8:50 am

All through out the game you hear about DeatheClaws being the most ferocious and deadly creature in the wasteland but I just don't see it. Even at difficulties above easy they aren't a huge threat 2-3 shots to the head from a half decent weapons kills them. There are many more things I fear in the wasteland than a DeathClaw like Reavers, Albino radscorpions and http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/images/3211-1-1236696508.jpg *shutters*

Am I the only one that feels this way?

The only fears I ever had against a normal Deathclaw were for my followers. They run straight for the things and they can't survive more than a couple swipes from those claws. Being jumped from behind by a pair of Matriarchs is no fun though and did you see http://members.iinet.com.au/~amills/MMMF3-DeathclawAlpha.jpg from the upcoming MMM? :cold:

It'll be so much fun!

In the vanilla game, and at lower levels, yes Deathclaws are pretty fierce. Once you level up enough nothing is much of a challenge, unless you force your character to make it a challenge.

This. But really, I saw a deathclaw at level 5 and it didn't kill me just because I knew how to kill it. Chinese assault rifle fixes those :).

when my PC is low level, i have a healthy respect for DCs. when i get stronger, i don't dread them as much. which is the way it should be.

if it had kept its normal hand it probably would of been scarier ... but having its left hand replaced by too long spikes kind of makes it not as fearsom looking

Deathclaws became formidable for me because my first playthrough doing the wasteland survival guide at level 4, outside Super Duper Mart was a Deathclaw. Needless to say I got owned, the speed of that thing made me jump.

Most of them are creatures brought back from past Fallout games.

Mart seems to forget that the game's theme is post apocalyptic and not a theme from a turok game

a bit of variety is one thing but most MMM mods shows that the guy who made this was taking a large dose of LSD

I do not feel they are over powered or all that difficult now that i have figured out a sure fire way to kill them with one .44 magnum round. It is all in the set up and the angles. I have a level 17 gunslinger, sniper, night person perks and so long as i am patient and see them first they are mine. The trick i have found is to position your self where you have a clean head shot but not a frontal head shot, and they must be stationary for at least 2 seconds. I have found that if i can line up a shot to right where the jawbone meets the neck, i can turn them off with one .44 magnum round. I have found out the hard way that the front of thier head is pretty solid, and shooting them there usually just makes them mad lol.

My relevant stats are, level 17

85 stealth
100 small guns
85 repair which makes every weapon more effective

At level 2, I went straight for the superduper mart after selling off some stuff in megaton. Deathclaw appeared ramdomly.
12 Stimpacks: Expensive
32 10mm rounds: wastefull
Finishing a deathclaw at level 2 with a baseball bat: Priceless.

I am level 13, and just started running into these clawed monstrosities at Old Olney. Yikes. I have been putting down a bottlecap mine, then shooting them in the head with a sniper rifle (while in sneak mode) to get their attention. Even after charging over the mine they are usually still alive. God's ghoulies they take a lot of killing.

Sooner or later I am going to have to make them playable so I can see how much fun it is to rip everything apart in your path. Or imagine having one as a companion?

I fear them at level 30 because they tear my armor UP. And finding recon armor to repair my Chinese Stealth Suit is difficult.
