Deathclaws on Steroids!

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:18 pm

Jump on a rock and snipe. That's the easy way out. And it's what most people do to deal with NV deathjaws. Use AP ammo to pierce their DT. And if you can get a sneak headshot crit.

The reason you should jump on a rock is because DCs can only jump to attack. They can only run on slopes and flat surfaces. Thus they cannot reach you if you are slightly above ground. Doesn't always work, as some rocks can be walked to without climbing. Use this cheap tactic to kill any deathjaws that annoy you. At least until you get better armour, or use med-x and slasher to survive their attacks.

Hope this helps Garden. Glad you are back to playing nvde Vegas.
Armor doesn't help against death claws since they ignore DT. Rest of this is good advice though.

Personally I either shoot them in the head with my scoped trail carbine from a distance, or if I've got to deal with the close range hunting shotgun with Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back! can still make short work of them while keeping them off me as long as there aren't more than 2 or 3.

Normal Difficulty
then i how no [censored] idea how its so hard for you 2 kill them brahh.

look try using AMR for sneak attack after u have put a few mines around. then use a higher damage weapon that hurts at medium range. if the deathclaw survives take up the riot shotgun and finish it off. that along with companions, ede or boone or whatever, just dont take a melee companion, and u should be set.

This person has been asking the most simple of questions since they started playing it, they want their hand to be held throughout the whole game like a baby, and can't think for themselves, or don't want to.

LOL @ the Ratslayer

To you Seb, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Anytime I start a new game I always seek knowledge from others who know it better than I do. They may be simple to you, but it's all new to me. You've just shown me how small you think by making a statement like this. If Knowledge is Power, where do you think knowledge comes from? Questions! And of all the new games I've started and pumped forums for information, you are the first and only person that said I was a baby, which reflects poorly on you. Shame on you Seb...I expected more.

Nobody else comes here asking the sorts of questions you have, and seeing as you have played Fallout 3 you have a general idea of how the game is played already.
The answers to your questions will come if you simply think a little and play the game some more...how about you learn by doing, that's the best way, figure it out for yourself.
With you, it's like watching a movie and not understanding everything going on and always asking the person next to you to explain things to you when they don't need to be since they aren't that hard to figure out and you haven't even finished watching the movie.
If you need information, the majority of info you ask for could be found in the wikia.
And seeing as how you purposefully failed to answer my question properly last time several days ago, then how can I expect anything from you?

(shouldn't all your questions go in the hints, cheats and spoilers forums anyway?)

At this point in the game's life, it doesn't matter where they go, does it? Not spoiling the game for the millions who bought it new is one thing, the few thousand who have it now are just gonna have to deal.

Cripple their legs with explosives or shooting them, then just shoot away at their head, if you have Arcade it's even easier with his Plasma Defender.

Hope this helps,

This definitely. I lost about three companions going after the Deathclaw Mother in Fallout 1.

OMG don't remind me of DC Mother LOL I view the DC's in Quarry Junction in a different light now! LOL

@ Gardenia: Do you have companions with you? Also, I try to draw out the deathclaws one at a time. I also use a sniper rifle and I'll try to find an elevated position. Oh do you have any perks that add to your DT threshold? I also pump myself full of drugs when I go into Quarry Junction LOL Use Rushing Water and Slasher (mixed at camp fires, check there or wiki for recipe). Let the Deathclaws focus on your companions, while you shoot them! hehe

Oh and you don't have to head there at level 18, you can easily wait a while, then go in at level 25 or so.

DC's are my arch enemies and once I enter quarry junction, I won't leave until EVERYONE is dead... yes even the ones in the valley past the makeshift Khan camp! RAWR LOL (omg RAWR... don't remind me. You want to meet the deathclaw of all deathclaws... play Lonesome Road and find RAWR... OUCH times 100000 - for that svcker, you NEED a missile launcher! hahahaha)

Nobody else comes here asking the sorts of questions you have

And nobody comes here complaining about the questions I ask: but you! You might want to take a look at yourself because there are a whole lot of really smart and nice people who seem happy to help out so that makes you kind of stick out as a critical jerk.

and seeing as you have played Fallout 3 you have a general idea of how the game is played already.

Yes I do have a general idea of the Fallout mechanics, but Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are worlds apart in many many ways, so this is not a smart comparison.

how about you learn by doing, that's the best way, figure it out for yourself.

How about you learn to keep your opinions to yourself unless you have something useful to add to the topic. You don't know "what's the best way" for everyone to play FNV. Now you come off as arrogant and it's not very attractive.

With you, it's like watching a movie and not understanding everything going on and always asking the person next to you to explain things to you when they don't need to be since they aren't that hard to figure out and you haven't even finished watching the movie.

Bad anology. Fallout New Vegas is not a movie. So by your example, we are supposed to finish the game and then ask questions...like that's smart.

If you need information, the majority of info you ask for could be found in the wikia.

Yes and I spend a great deal of time in the wikia, but not everything is answered there. The people on this forum that have mastered this game will always trump the wikia: they will know things about the game that will never be seen in the wikia.

And seeing as how you purposefully failed to answer my question properly last time several days ago, then how can I expect anything from you?

You can't expect anything from me: because I don't owe you anything. And again you are the only one here who is [censored]ing about your poor little forum post not getting answered: on purpose at that! LOL But if it will make you feel better Seb show me where I didn't answer your question "properly" and "purposefully" and I'll try to answer it.

I'm pretty sure you have too much time on your hands Seb.

Yeah! I finally got a clue. I got up on a high spot, in this case the crane at the quarry, and took a stealth boy, used AP bullets and then I was knocking 'em dead. It was fun. And who says you can't learn anything from your fellow gamers.

LOL there ya go!!!! I also went on a crane with my current character and the deathclaws where all confused, because they didn't know who to attack or where the shots were coming from! :D

Oh I totally agree with you though! I always head to the forums when I start a new game! I like threads like "thinks I wish I knew when I first played this game". Means I can avoid a lot of pitfalls. Yet, I also love to simply play, explore and make mistakes. Then, when I'm totally stuck or come up against tough enemies, like you did with the deathclaws, I definitely hop onto the forums and see what others think or did! :)

Armor doesn't help against death claws since they ignore DT. Rest of this is good advice though.
You know, I keep forgetting about this. But they don't ignore DR which is a good thing since I like using my rebreather.

Anyway, since we are on the topic of Deathjaws, just last night I decided to go deathclaw hunting. I could easily kill them with my MF Hyperbreeder Alpha (GRA). So my dumb self starts to think, "Lasers kill deathclaws pretty easily. I should use my gatling laser!"

Apparently I have forgotten how damage thresh hold works. And the deathclaws proceeded to destroy my level 33 courier. And this was right after looting the Remnant's PA from the deathclaw promontory. :sadvaultboy:

From what I have read, they do NOT ignore your DT, they just do a ton of damage.

http://www.gamesas.com/deathclaws-really-ignore-t87883.html
according to the wiki they do 125 damage with the alpha male doing 300. No mention of ignoring DT.

Maybe I am critical, and I'm not here to be attractive or make friends, but when someone wants all the answers before trying hard enough and thinking for themselves and always complaining they can't do something it makes me question what this person is thinking. You don't know where to go, you don't know what choice to make, you can't figure out combat tactics, and you ask the answers for how to get through a game which are there for you to figure out yourself, it's part of the game. You've probably asked over a dozen questions already that are really up to you to figure out and I guess my tolerance for both stupidity and people not trying hard enough has disappeared over the years.

Bad anology. Fallout New Vegas is not a movie. So by your example, we are supposed to finish the game and then ask questions...like that's smart.
point is, you ask simple questions all the time without thinking for yourself enough, you just want to be spoon fed all the answers.

There is enough information on the wikia to provide you with the tools to solve the majority of your problems. So basically you just want a shortcut from people because you can't think for yourself?

Seb, this is the last correspondence you will be receiving from me. Now: It’s none of your business what I’m thinking. It’s not for you to judge how I play any game

Your opinion and tolerance of stupidity is your own view, and how you choose to view me is up to you. That’s certainly your right. But it’s my right too and I certainly think you are stupid going around trolling a gaming forum. And that’s my right. You don’t run this forum and I can ask as many questions as I please.

If I want to be spoon fed all of the answers that’s my business not yours. If you find it offensive then please don’t read my threads. You seem to have set up some sort of standard that games are to be played by because you sure are pushing hard to get your way on this issue.

Well, I don’t have to tell you my age, but because I don’t care about the issue: I’m 48. What’s it to you. If I had to guess your age based on your input on this thread I’d say you were a 4 year old. Now I’m not partaking in your games anymore. My time is valuable and I simply don’t have anymore to waste on you.

Their DT is 15, equal to that of a suit of combat armor and the amount of damage they do to you is unchanged by your Damage Threshold.

I guess I assumed it would be listed in the attributes table with their abilities, as it should be.

Sorry for having some standards for humanity.. And with the threads you create it almost seems like you are the one who is trolling. I read threads that might seem interesting to me, that's what a forum is for, and at I least read the original post to see what it's about. I'm not stopping you from asking these questions, you can keep asking(at least do it in the correct forum). Yeah you have wasted my time as well, I didn't even make a comment to you in the first place.

Why are you giving Gardenia so much grief? If your opinion is that he/she is too reliant on hand-holding on the forums, that's fine, but you could just avoid threads started by Gardenia. People are comfortable with different levels of difficulty.
