Deathclaws...what were they?

Post » Sun Sep 12, 2010 10:36 am

Ok, so I know Mole Rats, Radscorpions, Giant Ants all just got bigger, Yao Guai were Bears but can anyone tell me what pre war creature Deathclaws were? What did they mutate from? Were they people? Or animals? I've thought about this for awhile and I just don't know! Anybody have a good idea? Or maybe knows? :)

Experiments with Jackson's Chameleons with FEV lead to Deathclaws I believe.

They were created Pre-War by the Governement to use against China in the war.

hmmm, was it really necessary? I noticed US had fatmats and mininukes during the operation anchorage, wouldnt that be a better choice to fight Chinese?

Well the Deathclaws were going to be placed in China, where they would reproduce and cause mayhem behind enemy lines.

As you can tell, they are very deadly, and would be very effective.

They've lost the ability to change colour though.

You're dealing with a nation that itself is dealing with a massive resource crisis. All major fuel sources have all but been depleted, and the Fallout Universe (at least the United States) never grasped the concept of Electronic Miniaturization (Personal Computers seem to be a relatively new development).

The T-51b Powered Infantry Armor was a tremendous cost in terms of resources for a resource starved nation. Every one of those suits that was destroyed or lost in China was an investment that would be lost. So the US turned to a potentially more practical solution not only in terms of cost but also to combat the Chinese overwhelming Numerical Superiority (Presuming the Chinese of the Fallout Universe stuck with Chairman Mao's original philosophy of victory through superior numbers in the case of a Nuclear War).

The Deathclaws obviously weren't the success the Government was hoping for, or rather they proved too dangerous to control...or perhaps with the events of Anchorage the situation simply got away from them. Whatever the reason, the bulk of the United States' T-51bs saw deployment in Mainland China while the Deathclaws remained in the United States.

After the Great War, the Deathclaws escaped their confinement and began proliferating around the country. Outside the few suits in the Brotherhood of Steel's posession in California and the two suits that can be found in the Capital Wasteland, it is unknown what became of the bulk of the T-51bs. Presumably, some functional models still exist on the Chinese Mainland. Though the question remains whether or not China is even habitable.

There was no FEV involved with Deathclaws, just ordinary(?) genetic engineering.

Vicious dogs aren't mutated, just meaner than hell. Well, if you lived in a post-apocolyptic wasteland and relied only on instinct, you've been beaten and abused enough you'd try to kill anyone.

Pig Rat - Some kind of rat
Centaur/Floater - Bits of this, bits of that (the master is quite twisted)
Gecko - What it says on the Tin
Wanamango - Probably bits of everythling like the Floaters and the Centaurs, but with a lot more experience with the designer and an intention to produce a specific result.

Brahmin?

Cows (Possibly as specific as the Brahman breed - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahman_(cattle))

I think there's an argument made for Bloatflies being actual overgrown flies. Yes, they have a stinger... but their body propotions (and coloring) are more in common with flies than bees or wasps.

As a matter of fact I think there's an Enclave report claiming they're mutated horse flies :read:

Mirelurk Kings, humanoid creatures standing a foot taller than the average man, are faster and more powerful than their Mirelurk Hunter brethren. Unlike the cancriform Mirelurks, Mirelurk Kings are mutated from snapping turtles native to local rivers.
