Decapitation and Dismemberment

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:21 pm

"...if we were older. Then we wouldn't have to wait so long"... ummm got detracted a bit there... The Beachboys aside...

Wouldnt it be nice to see some decapitation and dismemberment when we kill enemies or get killed ourselves. I'd love to hack an enemy in two with a claymore.. or see his head go flying off with a successful sword stroke.

On the flip side I'd love to see my character die in awful ways as well... His limbs blasted off by a powerful fireball.. flying off in multiple different directions as fountains of blood spurt from their ruined stumps... mmm....

(all cosmetic on death so that it doesnt have to affect actual gameplay... though it would be nice if it did... chop off a guys left arm and he can no longer use a shield... hack off his legs and he cant stand anymore.)

Hell yeah. One of my favourite things about FO3 is seeing heads and body parts go flying in super slow mo..never gets old! (Playing through again as I type and just blew an Enclave Scientist`s head off to bounce against the wall lol)

In Skyrim I want to see heads fly after my axe hews them from their necks...hands getting cut off...arms becoming stumps...legs, feet...yeah. Forget your tasteful rubbish, unleash a gore-fest option for us butchers

Add a less-gore option for those with delicate stomachs

I want to place my hand over my opponents face, then release a horrifyingly powerful fire blast. When I remove it all that is left is a smoldering skull. As the body topples over the skull roles away.

Now that is a decapitation worthy of TES.

I agree. It can't happen to often, because how often would you really have the opportunity to decapitate/ Dismember someone. I think that it would be great, especially when you think about it from the standpoint of using a sword (and not a gun). But what would happen if you're using a mace or something? Bash their skull in?

Well finishing moves are in, that's confirmed. I can't think of many finishing moves for an axe other then hew someone's head off or split their skull in two. I doubt we'll see an excessive gorefest and countless limbs flying everywhere.

here is a quote from the podcast with todd

Is there any particular ESRB rating that you guys are aiming for.

"We never aim for a specific rating. I'm sure it'll be M. But we never aim for a specific rating. I would be surprised if we did not get an M. Our assumption is we're getting an M, so we are doing the content that we think is appropriate for Skyrim. There is more violence to the combat just in how it looks. Not like Fallout violence where it gets really over the top. It's more a realistic level of violence for what it is with guys with swords and axes and those sorts of things."

I think one of the finishers we heard was burring and axe into you opponents neck. I bet that is as far as BGS is going.

I was thinking more along the lines of the bodies becoming destructible once a character is registered as dead. So that the last blow damages it (the lopping off bit) but so that the option of mutilating the corpse also remains open. I want to smite my enemies.. and then chop their remains into itty bitty little bite sized chunks that I carry around in my pack.

as cool as it is to have those things in games- IE fallout 3 and Dead Space- it just doesn't seem TES. Todd did say they weren't gonna worry about the rating, they were just gonna make the game how they want to. Dismembering, although cool, just seems to barbaric for the fantasy realm TES usually strives for.

Thanks..... I can see what you're saying. Instead of just plain gruesome and unrealistic like fallout, it is going to be realistic, yet still violent.

Any realm where the majority of game consists of murdering people/creatures with blades and spells seems by its very nature barbaric to me. Thats what I like about fantasy... I doubt theres a non-gruesome and grizly way to kill someone using a pointy bit of metal.

Exactly. A game that has the grim almost medieval feel to it, including the weaponry, should be realistic with the resulting wounds i.e decapitation or limb loss. a fine blood spray won`t quite cut it somehow.

Reminded me of Team Fortress 2 when you get blown up and the screen freezes and shows you arrows pointing to your body parts

I would like to see dismemberment and decapitations but not to the level of Fallout.

Dead Space decapitations/dismemberment... now that game leaves Fallout in the dust. I found Fallout to be unrealistic and comical as far as gore went (which I think was the point).

Albeit Dead Space is a horror game and thus its primary goal is to scare you ****less and give you a queasy stomach, but still. If you're gonna have decaptiations it makes me wonder what people actually wants when they refer to not like Fallout; is it that they don't want it to be comical like Fallout? Or if they want it to be less "gory" than Fallout?... If it's the latter, then, to be honest I don't see the point of having dismemberments at all.

For me it is the Comical/Unrealistic aspect of Fallout's decapitation/dismemberment that I don't want. It should most definitely be realistic or at least more realistic that Fallout.

if decapitations are in is it safe to say that there will be location based damage? I dont know if this has been officially confirmed or not...

I would like realistic damage and decapitation rather than FO3's rather judicious gore. So eg no decapitations with a dagger or with an arrow, only from claymores, longswords and large axes.

They should at least have location damage so far as headshots since thats pretty standard these days right? Although it was pretty standard when Oblivion came out too...

1st time poster, long time lurker+elder scrolls fan (Although I did get banned during Oblivion development for mistaking a Dev for a really devoted fan and called him a liar)

I have faith in their violence system, fallouts was suited to it's universe, over the top to a disturbingly comical sense (Bloody mess perk worked similar in the previous games), which I don't think would work well in a more serious environment, although it would make for a few great cameo appearences where quest givers/enders die in a over the top manner with their limbs rocketing in different directions.

FO3 is over the top in the gore side which makes me laugh a lot during gameplay but I wouldn`t want Skyrim saturated as much as FO3. (Bloody Perk was just annoying after a while)

If I swing a two handed axe or sword and connect with some NPC, I would love to know there is a chance of a decapitation or perhaps severing their arm. Dosen`t have to be eyeballs flying and stuff. :hubbahubba:
