Decapitation DEFINITELY Confirmed (as by Pete)

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 8:41 am

While it's good to hear it, I just expect it is more useful than Bloody Mess in Fallout 3... which was cool (well, at least the first times), but quite useless.

So, what can we take away from this? Sometimes things come as a surprise. I say quit asking Pete questions and just wait till the game comes out so he doesn't spoil EVERYTHING.

How is this a spoiler? It's basic game mechanics, so there is a perk to decapitate people? Fine, when will we hear about the remaining perks? Any "normal" developer would have revealed such stuff long ago, to draw interest to their game, and would've kept the fact that the player is the Dragonborn secret.

As for the Perk, IMO it's a waste of a perk-slot, just like bloddy mess in Fallout was a waste of a trait. Won't pick that one unless it has other benefits or there are no other useful perks left.
I have no problem with gory deads per se, but I'd prefer them as game setting, consequence of locational damage or weapon ability.

Well Pete has just confirmed on twitter that it is not a typo.

The "Honestly, it was news to me too" part has me a bit worried...think it was meant in a slightly sarcastic way! :shifty:

How come? Pete Hines is a marketing guy for a game developed by a team of 100 developers. It makes sense that he isn't aware of every little thing.

Well, Pete is just the PR guy. He knows a lot about the game (he plays it), but he is not working on it, as devs are. So I suppose that there are lots of things he doesn't know.

I'm glad it's a perk.

If it's anything like Fallout, it will look too goofy for me. At least this way I can just choose not to unlock it.

Agreed. Then we can focus on getting useful perks.

Well, I don't mind a little more gore as long as we don't get the Fallout 3
vanilla gore as when you shot (I guess stab in Skyrim) someone in their
toe, their whole body explodes in a million pieces.

Kind of the point. The fake violence and unbelievable bloodshed is supposed to be humorous. Although I disliked bits like that in Fallout 2. Then 3. Then New Vegas.

A lot of people seem to think either it was out of place or too realistic. It was neither. Those "lot of people" were BGS fans or new players coming into New Vegas. Non-Interplay gamers basically.

Well it's in, apparently a background statistic is where the chance for decapitation from the Skill(Skill Tree. Not Perks. TES uses a simplestic barely GURPs derived Attribute system as is. Perks would be a too grandoise combination) if you pick it.

Woohoo? Nice for options I guess. I can guess which mod this came from.

It's a finishing move, nothing more. Don't get me wrong- I'm all about the finishing moves. Makes my character seem more diverse than your usual 'hack-and-slash' ES character.

So... What perk do you think it is?

One-Handed: Incomplete
Hack and Slash - Attacks with war axes causes extra bleeding damage - 3 ranks
One-Handed Prowess - One-Handed weapons other than daggers do X% more damage - 5 ranks
One-Handed Tactics - Unknown effect
Bone Breaker - Unknown effect - 3 ranks
Bladesman - 3 ranks
Stand and Deliver
Charge
Savage Blow

And if Pete Hines didn't know about this- Then I gotta ask...

What DOES Pete Hines really know then?

its just DECAPITATION, only heads will be severed... and its OPTIONAL, since its a perk.

also, the bodies in fallout only explode into over-the-top amounts of gore like that if you chose the "bloody mess" perk... an optional PERK.

It's a spoiler because we were lead to believe before that there would be no limb severing of any kind; now all of the sudden yes you can decapitate heads with a perk. And no, they don't need to release every bit of information on every perk, the game has enough interest drawn to it as is; this isn't some indie company pulling a new and unique RPG out of their ass. Revealing everything to us wouldn't gain them more interest in any kind; the people who complain day and night about this game will still play it as will the people who praise every single little detail.

I suppose the most confusing thing to me is why people would suggest that decapitation/gore/severed limbs shouldn't belong in this game. I mean, we're talking about using weapons that were meant for that very purpose.

Edit: Don't get me wrong- I could care less either way. But during the ages when these types of weapons were used- That type of violence was a common thing in battle.

I love how there's a choice of being able to do so. Unless NPC's are able to, too.

I doubt it's only heads that can be severed or that dismemberment will be limited to perks or the playable races (creatures can probably also be dismembered). They put way too much time and effort into the dismemberment mechanics for the Fallouts to not utilize it to its fullest in Skyrim. Only time will tell, but I'll bet dismemberment will work much like it did for the Fallouts, just more sensibly/sparingly with few or no exploding limbs as we're not going to be shooting trolls with shotguns...

FANTASTIC NEWS! Not that i really care about decapitation but i red the esrb ratings and it looks like the game will be nice and mature.

“. . . all the [censored]s your heart, or any other organ, desires,”

“She . . . [censored] the men as cruelly as Bal had ravished her,”

players can engage in a drinking contest with another character, which eventually results in slurred speech (e.g., “One more. No problemsh . . . Thash graqe!”).

Decapitation..

Imo TES isn't about limbs flying off. So I couldn't care less about this. Only the sick minded find such satisfaction

I disagree it's a perk you can pick it or not, most likely if picked you mite see it in the odd finishing move. BTW if you didn't know hitting someone with a sword gets kind of messy in real live too.So I would guess that means are andsesters were all sick o. if you don't want to see it don't pick it. I think it brings more weight to combat.

Very glad it's a perk indeed.

Alot of decapitations in video games look terrible and ruin the game for me, also it's not really all that realistic. Guess I just wont take that perk. :)

Wow... wasn't expecting that.

Small chance, and with a perk... I'm fine with that.

Yeah, it's part of a one-handed perk you can pick that there's a small chance you can decap. Honestly, it was news to me too.

Well that was... surprising, considering Pete's former statements.

I don't really care whether decapitation is in or out, but I guess it's a nice tough that makes One-handed more unique.
And with decapitation already in the game, I can already see the hilarity mod that makes every attack you make decapitate the enemy turning the game into a gory mess. :D

Thing im wondering as well is how did ESRB know about this before Pete Hines?

Pete Hines is the PR guy. He doesn't actively work on the game.

In the end, decapitation doesn't make my wanting of Skyrim any different.
