Decapitation?

How does one do this? Do you need a particular weapon? Is it in the fallout 3 vats third person?

It's a perk in 2-handed weapon skill, I believe.

Skill in the skill tree, know two handed has it, not sure about one handed. It's a random chance, usually the final guy you fight in an area, goes into a brief cinematic and pop goes their head.

One-Handed Perk Savage Strike: Standing power attacks do 25% bonus damage with a chance to decapitate your enemies.

Worth it for the 25% bonus damage. Don't really care for the decap.

Knocking people's heads offwith a warhammer is serious business. Your character stuns them with the handle, then does a mighty over-hand swing and somehow cleanly severs their head from the body. Barbarian surgeon secret.

I've had the Savage Strike perk for a while and have never done a decapitation until last night. Then I had two of them in one setting.

Someone more familiar with the exact game mechanics may know, but I think they happen if you finish the foe off with a critical hit. At least it seems that way to me.

*Once you have the appropriate perk of course.

What usually works rather well is ...
Several shield bashes with higher tier enemies, and then power attack with one handed.
or Shield bash crirical power attack on lower tier.

Duel dagger decap is pretty sweet to. It also seems to happen more with unique swords.
