Decorating your home

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 2:06 am

seems much better now.

I can place objects on tables and shelves without having them fall through. Usually.

But today I lost about a half-dozen magazines that had been put in a rack for display.

No idea where to find them. :nope:

But I do love my new home. It is on Spectacle Island.

It is a Three-story structure and I have spent the last few days decorating it.

The part that was the most fun for me was putting up the light boxes on the roof.

They spell out:

PIPER

PLACE

In big 5x3 letters.

Looks fantastic at night with all the other lights and what-not.

*Edit for my lousy spelling.

I've been getting mixed results. I built an armory at Red Rocket Truckstop, added shelves and planned on displaying various weapons. Surprisingly, most stayed put. However, I stored the silver submachine gun on the bottom shelf and it disappeared in one fast travel cycle.

That'd all I've tinkered with as I've had horrible results on previous playthroughs (items clipping through tables and shelves or flat out disappearing). I'd love to place junk everywhere, but I still don't fully trust it.

I feel your pain Demon.

But it really does seem to be better now.

Try again on a small-scale. With stuff that doesn't matter. See what happens. Can't hurt...

If it's the wood rack move it and look behind it if it's against a wall. It happened to me and when I moved the rack they were all piled on the floor. Though I could not put them back on the rack. I had to move the rack across the room then it worked.

I've only tried Sanctuary.

So far every piece has stayed where i put it, without falling through.

I agree, it does seem better. The only issue I've had with items I placed myself was the silver submachine gun. Everything else seems fine. Magazine racks are still completely glitched. I often return home to find them on the ground or just gone. The only saving grace with those is that all you have to do is open the shelve's inventory and all your magazines reappear where they should be.

I've used the bar counters for a variety of applications including lab benches. They still tend to eat things from time to time. If you go into workshop mode and move the counter, you'll often find stuff suspended or on the floor where it was. Agree patch 1.3 improved the disappearing item issues, but it's still a not 100% reliable, just noticeably better.

Using a Skyrim anology, in that game you had to drop your display item on the floor. Then leave.
After a while you could come back and manipulate the item to wherever you wanted it, and it would stay...
But if you picked it up (back into your inventory) the process would start over again.
Sounds like not much has changed? LoL

tell me which rack you have issue with exactly. I will test in 1.4 beta for you tonight (PC of course).

I only have issues with the actual Shelves you can build and all pre-existing furniture.

I can display almost anything on a self built container (large crates and such). nothing falls through them.

those big yellow magazine racks work perfect for me. spinning wire mag rack does not.

The spinning wire racks are still glitchy for me after 1.3 I can return to find mags all over the floor. Don't have to pick them up one by one, as the racks inventory says they are still "contained". However you have to "take all" then reload them in to fix the mess. Gets tedious..

If stuffs disappeared completely its probably fallen through the floor. I found the Castle mess hall particularly prone to that.

I've given up decorating. A shame because I really like doing it. But most things will drop through eventually, even if they stay put for yonks and I think they're safe they will do it eventually.

I hope they have finally fixed it with 1.4 but I doubt it as the patch notes don't mention it.

I solved the magazine rack dumping issue by spreading the magazine racks out some more. YMMV

Previous to 1.3, 95% of objects would not stay in place. Now 95% of objects stay in place, a drastic improvement. Still not perfect of course.

I am using Homeplate and have found most things are staying put now.

Except for some robot models and scales that I put on a wooden piece of furniture.

The models didn't fall through the floor but I found them on the floor at the complete opposite end of the room around a corner.

Anyway I put them on another furniture item and they haven't moved since.
