Decorating your house --- impossible?

Not really. No. It's a RPG, not a design-your-own house video game.

Or... Not really, it's an RPG, not a run round and kill dragons video game :P

Drop the items you want to decorate in your house on the FLOOR. Then leave the house and enter again. Then leave again and enter again. Now place the items where you want them to be.. VOYLA ! ;D

I apologize...but this is one of the funniest posts i've ever seen! The pic is priceless. They totally fixed the bookshelf issues and make bookshelves rock hard, and then somehow managed to mess up manually placing items. If Bethesda made a tech demo of their game bugs, it would be as popular as Minecraft.

Decorating is seriously a [censored] in Skyrim. Its really unfortunate, even if they fix the bug with items resetting untill you enter and reenter a few times, placing items is ungodly difficult. The best solution would be to just put a spell book in every house you buy that lets you rotate and really position objects. Simply placing a staff the way you want it is beyond frustrating. Your forced to bump it up against a wall or chair untill it vaugly gets into the right place. They took a step forward with weapon racks, wall hangings, and shield hangings, then a huge step back even from Oblivion. At least there you could grab specific parts of an object to place it upright. Placing books, skulls, or ingots, is near impossible.

Just shout at it and be done with it.

I spent 20 minutes repeatedly reloading my entrance into Mistveil Keep, the Jarl's home in Riften, after I got the full Unrelenting Force shout.

It is difficult, but i feel sorry for the Console players.. It is even more difficult than for PC players.. Placing a object with a Mouse is way easier than with a joystick..

I was dissapointed as well. I noticed it because the stuff I knock over starts spreading all over everytime I come back. When I encountered my first dwemer dungeon I started collecting plates, cups etc. but quickly realized that it had no use. Getting that fixed would be nice indeed.
I didn't get to Solitude yet, trying to stay as long as possible in each city I visit and haven't picked sides yet in the war, but is the library bigger there? since I'm trying to collect as many books as possible while travelling.

I hate this glitch too. But my gf, who doesn't decorate anything walked into her house one time and everything was knocked off the shelves. Like the place just imploded. She promptly blamed lydia and proceeded to murder her in a blind rage despite my protests to the contrary..

@teddie why don't you tie your fingers together and forbid yourself from typing until you come up with something actually intelligent or relevant to say.

Whats the point of decorating a house without multiplayer to show it off to your friends. Another solid reason to add multiplayer.

Looks like someone broke into your house. I lol'ed at your description of battling the goblet because I just had the same problem. Only I gave up and just settled for leaving it on its side in the end heh.

The only decorating Im doing in my house is collecting skulls and stacking em up to form a macabre altar to.. err... I dunno. I havent decided which God yet.

Oh get a life and quit trying to tell people how to play their game, youre just bored and looking for a fight.

I am bored, but I'm not looking for a fight. Just stating an opinion. Happy much?

PC users can do screenshots, but I get your point. It's pointless.

You should make some friends. Seriously whats with the angry lonely trolls around here. All they want to do is roam a dead boring single player world by themselves.

I've got two tricks to placing objects. First, objects seem to stay if you drop them from your inventory and don't move them afterwords. I've quit dragging objects into place, and I now rely solely on dropping them out of my inventory. It is FRIGGIN [censored] that objects don't stay where you drag them, but they don't seem to. For me this works almost 100%.

The other thing that works sometimes (but is not as good as my first solution) is to rest after placing items before leaving the room, or saving the game.

I want to know if these work for anyone else, keep me updated.

Ohh... Good to know. Ill try that later.

I've placed items in the Whiterun house and had them save several times and then last night I entered the house again after a good chunk of play time and everything is reset. It looks like houses are supposed to save loose items but it gets bugged out and calls the default values again. I would like to be able to, at the very least, place items on shelves and have them save.

Yeah, not sure how they could improve the book shelves, add mannequins and weapon racks, then totally screw up manual placement of objects. What the hell happened to Oblivion's placement physics?

haha you don't even know me so don't profess to kid. Also, Pete Hines has stated that multiplayer will NEVER happen and this isn't about multiplayer. I understand the desire to share your house with others but that is what youtube is for and this community is for. Take screenshots and whatnot. Saying that decorating your house is only useful for multiplayer is just a bad argument.

the fix for those items you have in that screen is pretty much drop them from your inventory then leave your house. come back in and start moving them around then leave and come back and they will stay. i went through a nice couple of emails with bethesda help over that and yes they should have a good part of that fixed next week in the patch also just store your really unique stuff until then because they dont stay at all ex: dragon claws and thieves guild trophies

It's a real pain, spending 6 hours carefully placing stuff and then when you come back, everything is spread out, long away from it's original position. I went and got my housecarl killed and came back and put everything into place. The same thing happened. In Solitude I put my Staff of Corruption on the long table, just beside the bed on the top floor of the house you can buy, and where do you think I find it the next time? In the [Censored] basemant. Not to mention that lots of items doesn't fit on the weapon racks, shield holders, weapon holders etc. I put the Mehrunes Razor on one of them and the dagger was floating in the middle of the room, FAR away from the holder. In Morrowind it was a nightmare to get things to stay where you wanted it, how you wanted it, but when you finally got it there, it stayed there. I hope that the in-game menu's can be modded heavily, but the engine itself contains bugs and is only fixable by Bethesda.

And why can't they compile both x86 and x86_64 (32&64 bits) executables? I mean, if you check on Valve's hardware survey page (http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/), you find that over 50% of the Windows users now use a 64-bit operating system. This is something that is EASILY done, so there is no excuse for not doing it.

Really hope they fix this bug. I spent a couple hours decorating my Whiterun house only to load it up and finding my house ramsacked. Also my weapon rack and plauqes wont activate. Oblivion, F3, & FNV all had the grab feature work better than Skyrim.
