No dedicated servers?

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 6:30 am

Was just going through the FAQS and noticed that this game wiil not have dedicated servers for xbox 360 but peer to peer? I was planning on getting this game as i thought it seemed very original but with the hassle ive had on a game like gearsofwar2 with no dedicated servers i think i wont bother, at least they have rectified that mistake with there sequel. Does anyone know if brink has an improved non dedicated server system for xbox360? Is it that they couldnt care about xbox360 gamers by not giving them a solid online play experience?

They are developing all platforms seperately, to get the max out of each of them. Dedicated servers are one of the few advantages that a PC has, but with the giant growth of the console players, dedicated servers will probably be more common there as well.
Sometimes you have to make choices. PC --> Community created content + Dedicated servers, but you need a recent pc. Consoles: More casual gaming from your couch but you mostly won't have Ded servers.

To be honest i dont think the fact there is no dedicated servers should put you off buying the game, i mean it can work okay :flamethrower:

Especially for consoles. One day hopefully they will all have dedicated servers.

Its sad, but don't have it stop you from buying the game.

At the very least you could rent it and try it out for yourself.

Now, if I were told that they were dumping character creation, SMART, fluid action, all the classes except Engineer, and that it was going to be on a random mix of maps from Call of Duty 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, then yes, Don't buy the game.

I laugh at you, console-gamers! Ha! Ha! ;)

On a more serious note: I don't think consoles will actually need dedicated servers if the development of internet-speed continues at it's current rate.
It's a lot harder to make peer-2-peer work on PCs, because there are always some which barely can run the game and can't work as server per se, while there are others which could handle the server-job perfectly, but have a bad connection.

For consoles the hardware is always equal, so it only depends on the connection to make out who's the best host.

All that of course does not mean, consoles shouldn't be allowed to use dedis at all.

It's because MS doesn't like to give power like that to 3rd party developers.

On consoles, that is. Otherwise Windows would be like Mac.

Well at least Homefront will have dedicated servers which makes sense since its 32 player maps.
