Dedra

Will the dedra be making a return? I don't expect to run into any Oblivion gates, but it would be nice to fight some dremora every once in a while.

Daedra have been in every Elder Scrolls game since Daggerfall so all of the safe money is on "yes".

Not really an Elder Scrolls game if there aren't any Daedra. I am hoping that Dremora, specifically, will be seen again in Skyrim.

Daedra didn't just appear near OB gates so don't see why not.

I haven't played anything other than Oblivion. How can we expect to run across them without Oblivion gates? Were they just wandering around in other games, or were they more quest specific enemies?

They have other, less insidious, ways of getting in than the glaring Oblivion gates. Even in Oblivion: the Daedra in the conjurer's dens didn't get there through the aid of Dagon and the Mythic Dawn.

There are a few in-game books that can tell you more, hang on, give me a few minutes and I'll try and dig them up on UESP.

EDIT: Finally found the one I was looking for:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Liminal_Bridges

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Doors_of_Oblivion

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:On_Oblivion

The top one is of particular note as to why we see Daedra outside of normal conjuration and events like the Oblivion Crisis. Basically it outlines a ritual to summon a Daedra permanently to Tamriel.

They were just wandering around for the most part, usually in Daedric Ruins. Daedric monsters are summoned by mortals and can end up being bound to the Mundus for a very lengthy period of time, or until killed and in that situation they'd be sent back to their respective realm they were summoned from.

Good, this game is going to have a great variety of enemies. I'm pumped!!!!!

Daedra have been roaming Tamriel nearly as long as mortals. We should see a few in cities, minding their own damn business.

Seeing daedric ruins again would be cool. Seeing a pristine daedric city with citizens who don't try to kill you would be awesome too.

Daedra can manifest themselves in many ways, and they do not require an Oblivion Gate to come to Tamriel. They can be summoned, temporarily, or permanently, they can live here, among many other things.
They're pretty common around Daedric Ruins, like in Morrowind.

It would also be rather silly. Why aren't they trying to kill you? Why do Daedric monsters have a city at all? They don't need to eat or sleep and they cannot die. What would be the point?

Technically, I don't think it's possible for a Daedra or any Daedric artifact to be permanently summoned or bound to the Mundus. They can be for extremely long periods of time, but not permanently, as they are in a dimension that they do not belong in. Eventually, they would inevitably return to their realm of origin.

Not to mention that the "Daedric" ruins were often actually built by Dark Elves.

Thanks everyone for helping out. I won't be surprised running into lesser dedra. Are Dremora going to be wandering around too? I always thought they were fun to fight, in fact I think it'd be awesome if we could actually choose to play as the game as a Dremora.

We'll probably encounter some Dremora, but we definitely won't be able to play as them. Assuming their still NPCs and not creatures, we should be able to make mods that let you play as them.

Well what I meant was a city like that of the Shivering Isles or the place that Azura is at in the Moonshadow realm. Not all daedra are bad.

The Shivering Isles is like that because it is the Shivering Isles. New Sheoth and the other cities are not for the Daedra, but for the mortals. Golden Saints attack the player on sight in Morrowind, they only tolerate the Champion of Cyrodiil because that is Sheogorath's will.

A mortal city guarded by non-hostile Daedra could be interesting though, given the proper reasoning. But a city for Daedra wouldn't make sense, since I can't think of any reason as to why they'd make a city for themselves in Tamriel.

You do have a point. A very good one too so I'm not going to try and fortify mine any more. I think my excitement for Skyrim is merging with my want for something that has previously only been in ruin form to be pristine.

Maybe like a little refugee camp style thing by a specific Daedric Prince. For instance, Malacath orders his daedra (not sure if he has any underlings like Dagon does but thats what I mean) to protect a little Orc-only town because the Orc's in a particular region are being killed off.

He also claims Orcs, Ogres, Trolls, and other such creatures as his children, though they are not Daedric.

I fully expect to being able to spill the blood of Dedra once more. Wouldn't at all be surprised if a quest or two didn't have you trekking through an Oblivion Gate, or stopping one from being summoned by foolish Cultists.

Hmmmm, perhaps the return of sigil stones. I don't rightly know how those would fit into the new enchanting system though.
