Deep Sea (TC) working title

Post » Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:17 pm

I see you guys having fun, that's great!!! ;) For the fun in the TC there will be clubs and bars. One of the most wellknown bars, at least to those who travel much, is "Jeff's" at the southern rim of the sulfur harvesting firlds of Gyrath. The owner "Jeff" formerly known as Dagoth_Jeff, has restaurated an old gasoline filling station, which had been abandoned by the local military base. This place also offers a nice small diner, with the most amazing Squid-Sandwiches of the whole southern territory.

As I already said TC will be located mainly below sea level. The reason for that is, that nature on surface had been damaged badly in an ancient war. A formerly blooming continent had been turned into a toxic wasteland with poisonous ashclouds and lmagma eruptions allover. How could this all happen? - Well, only a few know the whole truth and they try hard to keep it a secret.

What is said behind the curtain is, that long long ago all races lived on the surface and their economy and technics evolved fast. Reason for this was the presence of an alien race on the plabet. The aliens were peaceful and donated their technical knowledge to the native folks. It is assumed that one day the natives became too greedy and tried to take it all at once. The aliens who were few in numbers seemed easy to raid.

They came to steal what we intended to give them for free...

Well, I've played neither Final Fantasy, nor that other game, similarities are accidently!!! ;)

@TheGreatness: The Amphibians amd Fish-People have been there since ever. And they're not amused they now have to share the submarine ressources and fossile fumes with the humanlikes.

EDIT: I animated a real nice cutscene, it works in Blender, it works in Nifskope and MW f*cks it all up. I hate that stupid game!!! :(

Reminds me of an old game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AquaNox#Archimedean_Dynasty. Heh, cool stuff.

Good point. All we've seen are tiny bars, and they would get pretty boring after a while. Plus we haven't seen any dungeons yet, and I'm confused as to how they're going to work. This sounds like an awesome idea but we haven't really seen how it'll work in practice.

Guys, as you might have noticed I'm just working on this TC for about two weeks, what you expect me to do in that short time??? Complete dungeon or city tilesets? :o

I'm working mostly on my own on this project and all the models are made from scratch, no ressources sofar. You gotta be a bit more patient with me!!! ;)

The cities will differ in design depending on by which race they are inhabited. The humanlike cities will look like that military base I already posted pictures of. Shhapes being strictly geometric, lowpoly. Alien cities, which are located at the poisonous surface of the planet will rather be organic, like spaceship interiors in Alien II. Amphibian race has no special design yet.

Technically it is no big deal to make those cities. I make the models, place them on sea ground, covered by glass or energy spheres. You can look inside, maybe even see some faked NPCs walking around there and so on. As soon as you enter such a city, you will get teleported into an interior cell with same model, but a lot more clutter people etc. So in interiorcell, there is no water inside the city and you can walk around like usual. The outside of the city, meaning the area behind the shielding glass will be faked by landmesh that will be decorated similar to the exterior cell. Fishes will be set to flying in CS, so it looks like you actually still under sea. Water effects can be faked by animated textures or shaders maybe.

Just trust me on that. I wouldn't have started this TC, if I wasn't sure if it is working!!! ;)

All I wanted was an explanation of how they would work. Thanks for those details on the cities, now I can picture this project much better. These alien cities sound like fun! Have you ever played X2? Your description reminds me of the Boron cities you see in that game.

It's in the very early stages of a TC (do you know what that is?) and you're expressing confusion over how anything's going to work...in practice.
Without knowing for sure, I'll just assume that you activate a door and enter a cell. How's that sound? Confusing?
