Defeating Hircine...

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:08 am

So I finished Bloodmoon MQ today, but I had to use the console for this.

*spoilers*
I fought Hircine in his wolf-form as a human, but it was almost impossible to do any damage, even on -100 difficulty. Most of my spells got reflected or he resisted.
I wonder if mods did that. Either it was galsiah's character development (I was specialising in magic, lvl 42...so only WIllpower/Intelligence clearly round 130, anything else way below 100) or probably the code patch (maybe the feature were unarmored combat is calculated via strenght).
Else I had mana-regen for NPCs.

I would like to hear of your experience with this final Bloodmoon quest.

On a site note: MCP's option to calculate unarmored combat by strength made the werewolves in Hircine's dungeon ultra-overpowered....death after a single hit...so I was jumping from wall to wall...it was kind of funny. But luckily all MCP features are optional- Only too late for me.

Nope. Hircine's forms each have 50% reflect, 100% frost resist, 100% paralysis resist and resist magicka 50% with additional magickal resistances on top of that depending on form

Sounds like you fought http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Hircine%27s_Aspect_of_Speed, which has an extremely high luck stat.(I think this affects magickal avoidance too)

Strength has those same resistances.
Guile has those and a 75% fire resistance too.

Yes, the luck stat must avoid damage too. I used a custom spell with 100% weakness to fire for 2 seconds & fire damage... had hardly any effect. Probably this spell was simply to weak.

But well, I have a save from right before the fight. Maybe I try again as a werewolf...

Use your werewolf form on his strength aspect. Since you run so fast, and he's so slow, you can easily run in for a couple hits will he's still gearing up for his swing.

Yes...thats exactly what I did. I reloaded the save, turned into a werewolf, chosed his guile form and F5/F9ed me to victory.
It almost seems as if the game encourages that way, after you get the Ring of Hircine from the Skaal-leader.

When I fought his guile form, he got stuck on a piece of scenery and I just shot him with daedric arrows. Wasn't exactly sporting, lol.

I just struck to straight swordsmanship without enchantments, summoned a few distracting animals to my side, and then gulped down the health potions as much as I needed it. I basically started the battle with nothing but my armor set (summoned longsword), health potions, and armors hammers. I fought speed, and didn't think it was too too bad, although probably the toughest Vanilla fight in the game. (Minus Gaenor).

Lvl 42 seems a little low to me my chars are always around lvl 60 when they meet Hircine. My method is to summon a lot of creatures and while he's busy tearing them apart I try to do as much damage as I can and when my helpers die, i resummon them (to pull it out quickly you'll need amulet and rings with summon enchantments). For me the Strength (bear) aspect is the toughest one because he can destroy the best shield (Eleidon's Ward) with one punch. But if i recall correctly the bear aspect can be paralyzed (i used Baleful Suffering).
