Definitive end

Post » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:58 pm

So I was going to start the last quest to save hoover dam and didn't know that you couldn't keep playing after it.
I didn't get the warning about that there is no going back and stuff so I just started it and saved somewhere in the middle of the quest.
The game also didnt auto save when I started the quest, so does that mean I cant do anything anymore? Can I turn it back somehow? Please help me!! :'(
EDIT:Oh and I play it on the PC.

Do you only have one save? If so there's nothing much you can do but to start over (not such a bad idea, imo, as if you enjoyed the ride, there a lot more to do that you can not do in one single run). If you have multiple saves, reload an earlier one. Always keep multiple saves in games like this.

I just have one save, and if I had multiple saves I could have thought of that too =p.
I dont really feel like starting it all over again, but thanks anyway =)

I still think that's [censored] ridiculous. Why on earth buy a game that you then suddently cant play anymore when you get to a certain point?! that's just a pile of [censored].

As such I just shant complete the final missions, so nyeeeehhh NCR, you can do without that awesome courier that's somehow ten billion times harder than all your soldiers put together....

Do you not like other games than TES, Civ and Sims? If not, perhaps Fallout isn't your cup of tea. A strong, player driven ending has always been the staple of this series. So, with all the gameplay already being cut off, why cut off the one last thing that remains?

The gaming industry has been doing that for many years and is has served them fine. ~99% of all games are not like that.

I'm just amazed at the sheer number of people who play NV, in complete ignorance of the fact that it has a hard ending, and either only have one save, or save after beginning the final mission and delete all thier earlier saves. Then when they learn...to thier complete surprise...that the message they blew off was true and the game actually ends, they then find this forum and start an account just to tell us all about it. A uncharitable person would assume they're trolls and ban them immediately.

Ah, don't be too hard on him, it might be his first western RPG, we've all got to start somewhere.

True story: my first ever Morrowind character perished thanks to a dirty disc error whilst saving*. It was only through this trauma that I learnt about the necessity of keeping multiple saves, having prior to this mainly played Japanese games where multiple saves are neither necessary nor often not even an option.

*His legend lives on in Valhalla.

My
Spoiler
idiot
son did the same thing. Then I found a pearl of wisdom, a nugget of hope, just for folks that have found themselves in this situation. Read on at your own peril, as spoilers abound, but be forewarned, it may well be the savior of all those ignorantly blissful souls that missed the big huge honkin' pop up dialog warning:

Spoiler
Use the mantis foreleg glitch to rebuild your character. If you don't know how to do this you must
Spoiler
take a mantis foreleg from the school house in goodsprings, right out of the doc's house and head up to the cemetary. Lure a radscorpion up to the cemetary and kill it. Put the foreleg in the radscorpion's inventory and remove it. Each time you remove the foreleg, you will get the XP for killing the radscorp.
Do this until you are the level your previous character was (presumably 30), reassign your skill points as they were and select the perks you had. The only thing missing is your old gear, but now you know where to get it so it won't be so bad getting the old kit back together. And if you're just rebuilding your old lost character to play the DLCs, you get your gear stripped from you anyways.

So my son was able to rebuild his old character from scratch, in no time at all (20 min, max), and go play the DLC he wanted to. Everyone was happy. World peace ensued and children all over the world had plenty to eat. So go forth, intrepid forumers, and spread the word: You can rebuild it. Cue old rerun of The Million Dollar Man.................

Yes you did. When you talk to Yes Man a screen pops up saying roughly that proceeding further means there is no turning back. Unless maybe you did that once, cancelled out, but I still think it asks you again.

mantis foreleg
You could do it to anything, anywhere, anytime, but the idea is to use something that gives high xp to make it go a little faster, at the beginning so to either rebuild your character :celebration: , or exploit it and cheat.

Remember, Superheroes, use your powers for good.
