I've found that it seems i am having more trouble with patch 1.01. than i was with the un-patched game. Now my question is, if i delete the patch will it delete all my saved games/characters?

No.. go into your game data section and just delete your game data
and reinstall game data...

The save data is in a different icon.. there are 2 icons, Game Data
and Save Data...
