You see, Mila Salvius was sitting down by the hearth. There had been a gathering of various healers in Whiterun, sponsored by the temple of Kynareth. Mila had seemed cross and tired, and my acquaintance Rayna was worried.
Rayna came over and sat down by her old friend.
I was nearby, smoking a pipe. I was the youngest person at t the convocation, and was not well known. no one paid attention to me, as I prefer.
Mila and Rayna began talking but I was not paying attention until I heard the following....
Rayna said, "What is wrong?"
Milia answered, "I am afraid to tell you. I think I may be going mad!"
Rayna coaxed her on.
Mila sighed, and began.
"I recently bumped into a woman coming out of the temple of Mara. The reason I was paying attention to her was that, as one of the few in the service to Stendarr who are attuned to daedric influence in the air, I had I sensed she was a daedra worshiper. I went into the temple and asked about her. I learned that one of the Priestesses, I think it was Dinya, had asked this woman to do service for Mara. The person seemed quite odd to me, but They had nothing but pleasant things to say, and shared she had done much for Mara. This woman had been made an agent of Mara, which as you know, is helpful in resisting magic. I went around town and asked about her. Most people seemed to know her. I found out she was a Thane in Riften!"
"daedric? this woman was a daedra worshiper?"
"if I told you the truth of what I discovered, I am afraid you would think I was mad."
"Go on!"
Well, I had a young guttersnipe follow this odd woman, named Lucie Phex. She went into the rat way. The guttersnipe described her to a friend, and was told he better not follow her anymore. Lucie was the master of the thieves guild according to his friend!
That made sense, because she had the mark of nocturnal on her, I saw it right away. But I have never before experienced what I did with Lucie it is rare to meet someone so clearly marked by a daedra. but that was not the only one! I heard one the guards comment that this woman Lucie carried Azura's star! carrying the artifact of one daedra, and marked by another. And I had sensed other spiritual presences around this woman.
"my goodness! what did you do then?"
"well, I sent word to Stendarr's beacon. We are charged with finding and rooting out daedra worship, but Nocturnal is known to be tied to the thieves guild, and to tangle with that whole guild was a bit too dangerous for me."
“Well that, and Nocturnal is not as vile as most daedra," said Rayna.
"Daedra is daedra!" snapped Mila, "But I did not want to confront her, what good would that do? And I could not kill her lawfully. I cannot offer up my sensitivities to movements of aetherius in our realm as it relates to aedra and daedra....we can't let the daedra worshiper that a few of us have such powerful scrying abilities."
"so what did the leader at the beacon say?"
"They never got my message. The courier was never found."
"oh my"
"that is the least of it. Lucie came to me, in the night."
"did she threaten you?"
"depends on what you consider a threat."
"what did she say.
"She said, you do well to avoid scrying the secrets of nocturnal's own. But I am quite impressed with your acumen. So I will tell you who I am. And then you will decide to drop the matter.
I was a sneak thief, an archer. I was nearly killed by my good friends the imperials. Which would have been unfortunate. Because I, Lucie Phex, am the Legate who brought down Ulfric. I am the Savior of Whiterun.
Go to any city. Give my name to the Jarl. I am a thane in most of them. Impossible you say? Go ahead see for youself.
But that is not all. Kodlak chose me as the next Harbinger of the companions. Many of them still feel I am the true Harbinger, but I have chosen Athis to take my place.
The Psijic Order proclaimed me the arch mage after I saved Winterhold from great magical danger. Many at the college think I should be the arch mage, but I have delegated to Tolfdir.
Some would say I bear a striking resemblance to the woman caught fleeing Castle Dour after the failed attempt on the life of a imposter. But no one knows if I bear a resemblance to the assassin who killed the emperor and every living person aboard the Katariah.
In every hold of skyrim, I have been seen slaying dragons and absorbing their souls. My Thu'um has gotten me in trouble in cities where I forget myself and use some of it's milder, less lethal powers. I slew Alduin. I have been to sovngarde and back.
I killed every dragon priest and have their 8 masks on display...or rather, their 10 masks, though few historians could name all 10 masks.
I am the dovahkiin. I am the master of the thieves guild. servant of nocturnal. Titular head of the companions, the college of winterhold, and...perhaps other things as well.
I have spoken to more daedra than most people could name. I personally have defied or refused the requests of namira, mehrunes dagon, boethiah, clavicus vile, hircine, mephala, and vaermina. I have served Azura, Meridia, Peryite, Hermeaus Mora. I have had the displeasure of meeting with Sanguine, to whom I was engaged in a drunken fit, and I had the annoyance of dealing with Sheogorath. But above all these things, I serve my lady nocturnal. For reasons, known only to me, not even my fellow nightingales, I was marked a birth by nocturnal.
and it is your misfortune tonight that I bear a gift from her.
Your scrying days are over. That gift is gone forever. And I know you will share this tale, though you may try not to...these secrets are too juicy to keep to yourself. I dare you to tell anyone you like. We will see what happens."
"What? She said all that?"
Mila looked confused. Her face seemed clouded.
"Who said what?"
"you were talking about some woman, was her name Lucia? you said outlandish things!"
"I did?"
"yes!"
"what did I say?"
"I can't".....Rayna also had a clouded look. "I suddenly can't remember. But it has been nice seeing you, Mila"
Such an interesting tale. And sadly no mortal but myself, and now you, will ever know this tale.
It seems almost impossible that one person would be archmage, guildmaster of the thieves, harbinger, thane of riften and windhelm and whiterun and solitude. Dragonborn! Legate of the imperials! How could one person be all these things and not have it be the one thing people talk about all over skyrim. How can this person not openly be the most powerful in skyrim?
Simple. Well, simple for a servant of Nocturnal. Nocturnal keeps Lucie's secrets. People who come to whiterun and deal with her as archmage somehow don't notice she was also the harbinger they spoke to in whiterun. Yes, nocturnal is good with secrets.
But we, the servants of Hermaeus Mora, we are blessed with powers of knowledge and memory. And now Hermaeus knows this secret of nocturnal!
How delicious. Don't you agree? I knew my acumen with restoration magic would allow me access to the healer's meeting, and I am quite pleased. I had hoped to learn a few secrets, but this was quite unexpected fortune.
