Delivery Job

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:01 am

Hey, I tried to find a topic about this, but I didn't (or maybe I didn't look too much, sorry)

I downloaded Manargo's "Delivery Job" (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8520) a month ago and I noticed that it's not complete. I tried to contact the author, but he didn't answer my PM in tesnexus yet.

Well, I always end up changing a thing here or there in some mods to adjust to what I think is more suitable to my game. About this mod, I started changing too many things, I had new ideas (like, adding Kvatch to the board and creating a branch in Kvatch Rebuilt) and well, I started a new company but still using some ideas from the original mod.

Now, here comes the question. Would it be wrong to upload my mod without Manargo's answer? Besides I re-wrote the scripts and I'm trying to change the storyline, textures and some details, the essence of what Manargo created is still there. At the same time, if I'm not wrong, the original mod was last updated in 2007...

That sounds really interesting, that was a great mod.:)
It does happen from time to time that old mods get updated like this, with full credit to the original author for his/her work.
There is little to do about it when the maker has resigned from modding and the community, right?
Still, I guess you should wait for the opinion of others.
Perhaps there are some who know Manargo in person and can still ask him.:)

I have always liked the original, but I have always felt it was too small and that it needed some new ideas.

I can see your problem, but if he is long gone, then it might not be his biggest issue, but still..

Anyways it would be like to see an update to the mod :)

Hmmm...i say that keep all the old files as a testimony to the original maker by themselves, make a mod which would overwrite the things in Manargo's files and upload them to tesnexus, just remember to say that you are filling in until he comes back and asks for the reigns back. Oh and remember to say that you're mod requires his mod to work.

PS

If you decide to make a mod which would be based on the original concept, but have too many things to change, then just make your own mod and say that it was based off of the work by Manargo in Delivery Job.

Thanks for the answers, people! I'm glad you liked the idea.

I created this topic in hopes to find Manargo or at least, have witness that I don't want to rob his credits on his mod. I just think it really needs an update. Until now I put Manargo's name in all the scripts that I picked from his mod and if I upload what I'm doing, I plan to put his name in the credits, of course.

From what UnknownK said, my first idea was to change his work using his file, but because of the credits etc, I really started a new mod "based in the original concept". The new company is named Winged Shoes (because of Hermes' Talara) and the quests that will come after you be able to do deliveries to the inns are totally different from those Manargo created, besides some may have Manargo's ideas inside (for example, one of my ideas is to give the opportunity to the player to become a skooma trafficker or, again, kill everybody and claim their bounty and in the original, you would end up within illegal stuff too.) I also added some new features to the part that people know, disabled the full ownership on everything that the company possess, and cut the fast travel penalties. I think it's a special feature that only Manargo's mod have to have.

If you guys want me to speak more, I can write all the things I did so far and upload the version I created until now, without the "special deliveries" quest. I spend some time writting my ideas and I decided to start modding this part this weekend.

Marcos Alexandre that sounds damn nice!!

I really like your ideas, especially the skooma part. I have always wanted to be criminal in Cyrodiil in a different way than just thieving.
I hope you will get the mod released soon so that we can get to enjoy it, because the game needs more quests like this!

No, the read-me only talks about the mod itself, installation, uninstallation, thanks and a log. There are no notes about redistribution or even a contact. I know it may be a bit excessive, but I'll glue his readme here in the message:

Author: Manargo
Date: December 31, 2006
Version: .8 (pre-release BETAv2)
Mod/Plugin: delivery_job.esp

Purpose: This mod allows the player to do delivery jobs for the new Gold Horse Delivery Service. In every major city you can find 7-9 jobs (randomly selected each time) that you can deliver locally (that's over 60 jobs locally). After an advancement in the courier business you can deliver inter-city packages from branch to branch for more money, and then finally after that you can deliver supplies to some of the inns in Tamriel.

You are penalized for fast traveling for inter-city packages only. Even then, you still get a substantial reward for doing them. (100 for doing them, 50 for fast-traveling)

Possible conficts: Since I have added a branch to each city, obviously it might conflict with another mod who puts something in the same place. I edited landscape in two cells, so that might also throw conflicts. Other than that, I can't think of any other showstoppers. When in doubt, change your load order.

Installation: Unpack the compressed .zip file to your C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data folder.
You should be copying over the .esp, some textures, meshes, and some sound files (blank .mp3s made courtesy of the TES4 Plugin Utility).

To uninstall just delete the .esp and the following folders:

\data\meshes\delivery_job (meshes)
\data\textures\delivery_job (textures)
\data\menus\icons\GoldHorseCourier (icons)
\data\Sound\Voice\delivery_job.esp (blank mp3s)

Thanks for the download and I hope you enjoy it! This could be the full version, but I might add more stuff in the future (along with taking care of any bugs).

Notes: I should have a WIPz thread up on the official forums. Please stop by and leave some feedback and suggestions.

Change Log:

Dec 31, 2006 : .7 - initial release
March 6,2007 : .8 - bugfix involving the delivery job not showing

Please, any insight about it is more then welcome!

And Marken-DK, thanks for your comment too! LOL
But call me just Marcos, please. =)

Hey, Marken, sorry for the delay.
I took a while to do other chores and to think more about the four little quest I'm creating. Yesterday I wrote them and I'm still thinking on how I'll come with the last one. If you have any ideas or bugs that you noticed in the other version, feel free to share. =))

I'm back again, I decided to upload some screenshots of the company signs and new icons, in case to show a bit of the cosmetic new features, you can see them at my http://marcos0712.deviantart.com/art/2010-Winged-Shoes-1-157404348

There's a long description of the stuff there too.

Looks good! :D I really like the reference to Hermes' sandals.

If I should suggest one thing that I think is needed (though it might not what you would like to implent in the mod) it is the ability for the player to use some speechcraft and/or merchantile in the quests. I don't really know how, but maybe working some deals out, or obtaining some special wares or something?

Humm you gave me some ideas to improve the quest, I'm not sure if it was what you meant.
I just finished one of them and tested. There are two special deliveries for noble clients that envolves some problems. Then I added the possibility to tell what happenend to the guy. According to your speechcraft skill there will be a randon way to him to not believe and get angry, believe and that's okay or feel sorry and pay double. But it's randon, and the experts will always get the best choice.

Yes exactly like that. So that a player with high speechcraft should be able to get some bonuses from the jobs. Just like the stealth part of Dark Brotherhood, where the player can recieve bonusses by not being detected.

Wow, I've been working on this mod for a month! LOL
Your suggestion about the speechcraft gave me a very cool idea for the final quest. The only problem about it is that I need to create more dialogues and it means more mp3s. Actually I have 85% of the mod ready. I may also need to ask permission for a couple of things, I picked several modder resources to create a different ambient.

I may send you a PM, I would like someone to play the mod before releasing to avoid that annoying thing to upload several revisions.

Hey people, I guess I calculated my time wrong. My exams will start next wednesday and since it's a lot of work to do instead of things to study, I've been spending less time with the development of the mod. I hope you guys won't mind to wait a bit more. I also started to talk to some of the resources' authors to gain permission or at least give them a shout. I still need to talk to Phitt (tried to send a message from here but his box is full), Surazal, to ask permission for my girls to use his Sensual Walks mod and to Kvatch Rebuilt and Better Cities teams to pick some hints to put my mod friendly towards them.

Thanks for all the supports and feeds until now!

Why not? Textures look really nice and your version would probably be different. And if you enjoy making it, I don't see why wouldn't you finish it.
