Dell's 3D Laptops: Yes, They Can Play Crysis 2

Post » Mon Nov 15, 2010 4:48 pm

The demonstration material that we got to see was Crysis 2, which we suppose answers the question about the Alienware M17x – Yes, it can play Crysis 2… in 3D.

Of course, Crytek has worked hard to make Crysis 2 scalable to a wider range of hardware, this time including consoles, so more machines ever can play Crysis 2. The impressive part is that the machine was rendering it with 3D on with all the settings on high. Frame rate appeared to be very smooth and the 3D graphics were gorgeous.

Buying alienware is akin to complete madness.

Learn to build and pay half for twice as good.

That maybe the case for some, but that shouldn't be the whole situation we look upon. Most Alienware users are quite pleased from what I've noticed. But, to each his own :)

Let's not steer too far from the intended point of discussion: "The impressive part is that the machine was rendering it with 3D on with all the settings on high. Frame rate appeared to be very smooth and the 3D graphics were gorgeous."

Cry-Adam is right, we may be getting ahead of ourselves. Back to topic.
With that already cleared up, what about the M11x and M15x models?

The point is that a £500 system with a 3d monitor could perform that feat for far, far cheaper. I'm not one for letting the name of alienware tarnish pc gaming as being 'ridiculously expensive' more than it already has done. One of the reasons the uninformed say 'zomg $3000 system for crysis!1!!' is because of alienware.

It's nice to see i'm sure, but i'm making sure it is known that alienware isn't worth the money :P

Also, lol, it throttles itself, so not only are you paying £1.2k+ for a laptop like that, it also overheats XD

*sigh* the people who think this stuff is good enough to buy are the same kind of people who think the xbox slim is significantly more powerful than the original 360. Or buy macs for gaming.

P.S. The main thing is though, crysis 2 runs in 3d on such low end hardware! Good times :D Time to spend that £120 on a gtx768MB instead of that (minimum) £1.2k alienware and enjoy epic gaming quality ^^

Just waiting for a 4D laptop that can max Crysis at 100 fps. One day, one day.

Technically all 3d laptops are 4d and all 2d laptops are 3d, as they all pass through time. ^^

An Alienware still has some power in this time-line. Just enjoy its power while it last :)

If you've got one now, there's nothing you can do, but NEVER buy one again. Build a machine instead :) I'm not talking £50 savings here, i'm talking half the price if not more.

I love gaming laptops but can't imagine ever owning one simply due to the logistics. They're too big to travel with normally and if you're stationary you could have a PC. Still, it's awesome to see a 3D laptop, hope i'll get to try it out somewhere.

Alienware capabilities are as good as any pc with the same components. The components in question are half the price when not from Alienware. Which is the point :) Alienware = bad value in every way.

I have an M15X and it can play Crysis/Warhead Very High DX10 etc etc with about a solid 30fps at 1080p and 2x anti aliasing, but i cant see the diff that really makes.
and since Crysis 2 has lower system requirements then the first then i have no doubt about getting very decent framerates maxed, even if im playing in 3D.
Alienwares get downtalked a lot, and yes they are expensive, but they are VERY good gaming machines, or at least the laptops are.

Hope that clears up a bit of angst :)

BTW:
i7 Q740 1.73 Ghz boosts to 2.9
Mobilty Radeon 5870 - was happy discovering it has DX11 :)
6Gigs RAM 1333 Mhz
1920x1080 native resolution

alienware laptops r a joke
they make you pay 500bux for the flashy lights
only gamin laptops worth buying
are the msi or asus g series
the mx15 doesnt come with 5870 only 5850 max
and still your laptop cost over 2k
vs this with better specs for 500bux less

The thing is they have nothing special to set them apart from far cheaper alternatives for laptops ad (especially) desktops :)
