Morrowind didn't, Oblivion didn't, Fallout 3 didn't, New Vegas didn't, Skyrim didn't... I'm pretty sure we're not getting a demo. Given the way they build their games it's hard to chop up a portion of it and pack it as a free demo, it's more effort than its worth.

you sure? im almost positive oblivion had a demo. anyways, i know minimum requirements Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)

Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

but ive found in many games that you can still run games with a decent frame rate with computers that dont meet the minimum

I don't recall Oblivion having a demo and I'm sure Skyrim didn't have one. And I highly doubt FO4 will have one. Are demos still a thing? Haven't tried one since PS2 era..

Nope, no Oblivion demo.

So have I. I played thru Dragon Age: Inquisition on a computer below minimum CPU and GPU. But we really can't tell if Fallout 4 will be like that or not before we try it ourselves.

They happens now and then, but it's more rare nowdays for sure. But for example, The Evil Within which was released last year got a demo.

Demo's wouldn't work with a game like this, that'd be too easy to hack into a full game before long. In fact anyone that was real familiar with the Developer Kit aka CK or Geck could make that happen.

Steam refund. Buy the game and install it, and you have two hours to test it. If you are unhappy with the performance on your system, return the game or decide about upgrading.

And, amazingly, months after release, they released a demo for Dying Light. But yeah, demos are damned rare these days.

it doesnt make much sense to me. i could run skyrim on lowish settings fine with little to no lag but divinity original sin ran worse on the games lowest settings and that games graphics engine looks like it was from 10 years ago so im hoping fallout 4 will be more similar to skyrim

my specs

AMD Athlon™ II X2 250 Processor 3.0 GHz

4 Gigs ram

AMD Radeon HD 5450

Well, just because you could run it on decent spec doesn't mean there was a demo. Demo's aren't for graphics testing anyway. They're for promotion. The appetizer before the main course.

But no...The only Demo of a TES/Fallout game that I recall was reading secondhand comments about Daggerfall having a demo version. I cannot confirm firsthand whether this was true, as I was not into PC gaming back then.

It's not that hard. Just create a average build character. Take a random non story related dungeon and let you run wild.

They could just add a few work benches etc to allow you to try that sort of things as well.

All they have to do is make one cell available.

I don't think they will but it isn't too difficult for them to do if they wanted

Different companies might treat minimum specs differently. Minimum specs might be the absolute minimum specs required to play the game or the minimum specs required to tolerably play the game. So for Fallout 4, the minimum specs might be what is required to play the game on medium while less than the minimum specs requires you to play on low.

Better off getting it on console unless you upgrade, or maybe altogether. If it runs on that hardware it'd be surprising.

If they give too low a spec, they leave themselves open to consumer issues if the game struggles.

You can make your own choice to try it just under the specs but not with Bethesda's responsibility.

I would certainly like a Benchmark video to be released, like what the game Thief had to test graphics settings and framerate. I know I exceed the recommended specs, but I don't want to exit the game several times just to tweak the graphics and get the framerate where I want it.

Have you tried The witcher 3 with your specs ???

I wouldn't !!!

If you compare the specs they are similar. (The Witcher 3 vs Fallout 4)

If you ever buy, or rent, or borrow The Witcher 3 from a friend, and you are satisfied with your comps performance, then well...it may be similar to Skyrim

Also there is the possibilty that Bethesda has overrated Fallout's 4 requirements.

--------

Bethesda Game Studios game director Todd Howard said the engine features full physical-based rendering and dynamic volumetric lighting.

Followed by: Bethesda's Todd Howard calls sequel > the most ambitious and detailed game world that we have ever made <

I thing this leads to the insane recommended requirements. !!!

---------

The only demo that i found, that's more or less compatible with the above is this: http://amd-dev.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wordpress/media/2012/10/AMD-Demo-Leo-v1.1.msi

However that demo should be run on HD 7900 series GPUs and above !!!

You could just try to run it, and see what happens. !!! (also anyone can try that as well, with an AMD GPU)

It's not exactly what Todd mentioned above, but close enough... :icecream:

Basically use the PS4 specs as your minimum specs.

You can play most games below mimimum specs but do not blame anyone if it randomly crashes.

Steams new refund system may help.

The last Bethesda demo, as far as I'm aware, was the Daggerfall demo, way back in 1996. It was a WHOPPING 46 megs in size. It included a scaled-down character generator, item maker, potion maker, spell maker and one dungeon. You were "issued" a pregenerated male level 16 character. There were no saves and there was no creature AI.

I was so disappointed that the menu music in that demo (which I liked a lot) wasn't the menu music in the full game, instead it's all quiet.

Annyway, they later released a larger Daggerfall demo which played like the full game, but it was restricted to Betony and obviously without the main quest.

After that they released a demo for Redguard in 1998 too.

An indoors location isn't the best way of testing graphics in an open world game. You also have to keep in mind assets outside the ESM file (meshes, textures, sound etc.) that they'd have to cherry pick to pack up with the demo. Publicly released demos aren't worth it given their way of doing things.

Nice history lesson, Freddo! I didn't know that. :icecream:

In regards to Fallout 4, there is not a demo planned.

Yes, I even had to drop my resolution way down for Witcher 2!

Hopefully the new laptop will be ready before FO4 launch, otherwise...the Boston wasteland is going to look like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yeyzi8e6-yw
