Demon forge will not start

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 11:02 am

I downloaded the game.

On first start up, activation screen appears and the code was entered. Activation was succesful followed by the activation screen disapearing.

Double click game icon on my desktop and I get no response from the game. I tried to start the game several times with no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the game will not start.

All other software is working perfectly fine including another game that I downloaded and activated shortly before Demon Forge...

Windows 7 x64

Any advice?

I have the Steam version so might be different, but I notice that this game runs in a fairly unusual way (from what I've seen in other games). The primary working file for the game seems to be called P4DFTRE.DLL and not an actual EXE file. Have you tried right-clicking on the shortcut and running as administrator? Tried disabling anti-virus programs or other background processes?

The retail game certainly runs from HUNTED.EXE. It has a long loading time for the game to come up.

Hi.

Yes, I've right clicked and tried running the game as administrator. I get the UAC prompt, click ok, then i get the little blue circle rotating for about 3-4 seconds but nothing happens afterwards...

I do not have any anti-virus running.

do u see a splash screen or a black screen at all? Does some dll show up in ur task manager? I have the steam version so its only speculative but for me it took me 15 minutes for it to start up after I launched it. I launched it, a black screen popped up and it was stuck there for 15minutes b4 loading.

Hi.

No black screen of any kind shows up.

As far as processes are concerned, to check, I did the following:

I opened Task manager and kept it open on the processes screen. I then launched the game from my desktop icon with admin priv. When looking at the processes, the process count increased by 3-4 and I see Hunted.exe as one of them as well as P4DFTRE.DLL. Then the process count drops back to previous count before game launch.

So i just uninstalled the game using the game's uninstaller.

Reinstalled the game.

Launched the game using admin priv and i get nothing...not even the activation screen.

I have over 60 games in my Steam account - I haven't experienced this with any of them.

I do not know if I should blame Bethesda or D2D for the gam enot working. At least with Steam I can verifiy game file integrity.

The game was free through gamesas Insider....good thing b/c if I had actually paid for this game, I wouldn't be so calm.

I see why the game is not working for me.

I went into Documents/My Games/Hunted/DFGames/Logs and then read the text document "Launch".

The text document reads:

Log: Log file open, 05/31/11 23:03:17
Log: ... running in INSTALLED mode

My issue is similar in scope to that of the original post. I did some digging in the "basecompat.ini" file using edit and found that my video card (nVidia GeForce GTX 460M Cuda) has not been tested by the developers. Although I'm running this game on my Asus G73JW, I think it's safe to say that it more than meets the minimum requirements. My instinct tells me that there will be a substantial patch coming in the near future to address these issues. Furthermore, looking again at the "basecompat.ini" file, it appears that the developers have used the GPU ID's from 2007. Perhaps if they updated this file to include some of the more updated cards, this may solve some of the issues.

Interesting, I am running the game on my Desktop with a GTX460 with no issues. I actually have an ASUS ROG G73JW laptop as well, I think I'll try installing it there and see if I have the same issues.

Please do. I would appreciate your comments on this as a fellow "ROG" laptop owner. :shifty:

Done, it is the Limited Edition version of the laptop but I wouldn't think that would make a difference. Game boots up and runs perfectly. The first load prior to the prologue had a slight delay (guessing that was just the laptop HD firing up to full speed) but aside from that load times were pretty much instantaneous. This is using the Steam version of the game. On that note, I wasn't able to access the Assassin's Pack pre-order bonus as it said my key was invalid (guessing it's a 1-time activation key but that does kinda svck).

Mobile versions are never tested because they are never officially supported. nVidia are supposed to ensure compatibility.

Just an update on what is going on with my machine..

So I inserted the basecompat.ini file...one that i found online.

Then tried to start the game - no luck.

However, the new log file said that the file baselightmass.ini could not be located.

So then I insert that file and try to launch the game...no luck.

Went to logs to read the new file...it says that some other file is missing...

It appears that I am simply missing several files that the game needs to run.

They either vanished into thin air upon install or they were never included in the D2D version.

Not sure if it is all the files within the \Hunted\ENGINE\CONFIG folder that you're missing, but here is a RAR'd version of the INI files that normally go in there (for Steam anyway, but I'm guessing these files are universally the same):

Hi.

Thanks for your time and help.

So I went into the folder where the game was downloaded to, went to a folder labeled "data", then went to "NEU" and inside of that folder are several zip files labeled MAIN 1-4 and MAPS 1-6.

I extracted the files from MAIN 1 and the files that I needed were in there. I placed them in there appropriate places.

Launched the game and it works. However, all of the type is messed up and the game is full of graphical glitches.

I'm doing a fresh W7 install tmrw and will re-download and install the game....maybe it will work properly tmrw.

I made an account just to post how I got the game to work.

First, the problem I had was that I could install the game just fine. The issue started when I went to launch it though. The Hunted Splash Screen would stay up and even after 15 minutes of waiting, I wouldn't be getting anywhere.

Normally, I have my computer running in Japanese Locale as a good deal of the applications I use and games I play happen to be in Japanese. I switched my settings back to English and after a restart and reinstall of the game, the game launched successfully. This is frustrating since I have yet to encounter a PC game in English that could not be run even while I was in Japanese locale. A good deal of my frustration could have been averted if the installer simply told me that I was installing or trying to play the game using an unsupported region.

Please note that I was using the retail copy of the game, but it's entirely possible the issue exists for steam versions as well. Also, it's entirely possible that just changing your region settings is more than enough, and an install isn't necessary.

Anyhow, the short of it is:
If you can't start the game and you're using a different region other than German, English, or Whatever that third one is they have listed, try changing it to one of the three. The game doesn't work at all set to Japanese Region.

The game is working for me perfectly fine now.

I installed a fresh copy of W7 x64 and re-downloaded the game from D2D.

It appears that for some reason all of the files wouldn't extract (more than twice) on my first download.

For those of us getting the game from D2D, in D2D download manager there is a "play" button icon; it looks like an arrow (next to a folder icon).

DO NOT click this "play" button to install the game once it has downloaded.

You need to run the setup from the folder in which the game has been downloaded so that all of the files are correctly extracted and installed.

I'm pretty confident that installing the game via the "play" button does not properly install the game.

Hope this helps!
