Depth of Field?

I usually don't use depth of field ingame, because I don't really like the effect. I guess that I like to use my own eyes to look at things in the corners, etc, rather than turning the camera exactly towards what I need to view in detail. I've also heard that it can slightly lower your framerate. I have a pretty good computer, and I don't think that Depth of Field would lower the framerate very much, if at all. However, I would always have this nagging feeling at the back of my head if I turned one of the details up higher than I thought I should. I guess I just have something of a phobia of even the slightest framerate drops. Does anybody else turn depth of field off, or am I alone on this?
