Descent and the 3d craze sweeping the world

Post » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:22 pm

Now that the 3D TVs are getting more and more poplular I think its the perfect time
for Descent to make a come back.
Just the thought about playing a new Descent with today's almost realistic graphics
on a 46 inch 3D TV gives me goosebumps, It could be amazing.

Now most Descent players are at their 30's so they will probably
have the money and the will to buy the equipment to really enjoy a new Descent.

Actually, not that many players are in their 30's. I know 7 people who are at and below 20. The oldest one is I think 62. :P

I think that this is hinting at the consoles because usually you hook consoles to TV's. Unless you hook up your computer to the TV, I really don't see Descent on any console that uses a controller (except the Wii. It is doable there. I've seen it and believe it) If you are going to fight a war, do it efficiently, unremittingly, or don't do it at all--I'm not into ethics, I'm into efficiency.--Benjamin St. John "Descent" by Peter Telep

3D adoption isn't really that high at this point to warrant a game that will rely solely on 3D, most 3D games now have it as an optional feature yet bank on the regular modes to be the main draw. Gamers might be in their 30s but that doesn't necessarily mean they could or would shell out for new tech that hasn't cemented itself properly.

I wouldn't expect a good 3D experience on a Wii port though unless you have a pair of red and blue glasses ready. ;) The 3DS could be a great place to experiment with that though in my opinion.

It's funny reading that since I'm still in high school xD

Descent would be pretty awesome in 3D, but even now 3D isn't even at what probably can fully do, And it shouldn't entirely rely on 3D anyhow.

In the meantime I can't wait for Descent on the Wii :D

Of course not ALL players are at there 30's :P
but if the game was published 15 years ago and the average gamer was a teenager
then most of the descenters are at their 30's

but this is not the point
the point is that now that the 3d technology is getting more and more popular
Its a great opportunity for Descent to show off its strength.
Its absolutely the best game to use 3D.

Playing Descent in stereoscopic view doesn't need to cost you more than 15 bucks: Grab D2X-XL (free) and get some red/cyan anaglyph glasses, turn D2X-XL's stereoscopic rendering on, and there you go.

The advantage of this solution over using a 3D TV set is that D2X-XL produces properly projected stereoscopy and not the faked one computed from a single image. Image

Two things:

a) Get the latest versions
b) Get support in the d2x-xl forum

Do I need to mention that you should use the latest hardware drivers on your computer? Image
