Describe your character:

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:51 am

I started the game thinking I would go heavy armor while dual-wielding maces... but then I found that I could run much faster in light armor, so after 2 or 3 useless perks in heavy armor, I decided to switch. Then, after starting the companion questline, I flipped my [censored] when I saw the skyforged blades and proceeded to dual wield those. I then went to the thieves guild after overhearing some mindless NPC pvssyr somewhere and decided that I should go check it out; After starting the questline, yet not finishing it, I quickly became obsessed with the sneak skill. Then, the Dark Brotherhood called and I, once again, flipped my [censored]-- quickly replacing swords for a dagger in the main-hand and a sword in the other. Other constant changes have happened, but now-a-days I find myself using full dragon-scale, nightengale gloves, and dual-wielding the Mace of Moag-bal, and the Nightengale Blade (although with a certain armor arrangement I sometimes dual wield Daedric axes at 153 damage a hand) to run into the midst of battle, no matter how many enemies, and (sorry, I have no other way to describe this) "[censored] [censored] up," rarely getting owned though I play on expert difficulty (melee can sympathize with me on this one, for its fairly easy to get 3 shot by a mage or draugr death lord arrows).

So, fellow Dragonborn, what is your story, and specs... ?

My build as of 120 hours of gameplay:

Sneak: 100 (maxed out perks)
Smithing: 100 (maxed out perks)
One-handed: 93 (almost complete)
Lockpicking: 86 (no perks)
Light Armor: 76 (3-4 perks)
Enchanting: 62 (no perks)
Speech: 53 (no perks)

My current build is based on the witchers from the series of the same name, but instead I changed the focus to being daedra hunters, and changed their preferences in skill.

I roll with heavy armour, but deliberately picked armour which looks the least restrictive to serve the purpose of protection and maneuverability; so I was using the shoulderless steel armour and now the Ebony mail. I modified the attack speed with the console and roll with a steel greatsword (trying to best simulate a bastard sword) and use sneak and illusion magic mostly, while preferring to kill enemies with blades or h2h.

While it is possible for one character to play through the game, it is better to have a few characters. One that is a Tank, one that is a Melee Surgeon, one that is Light on their Feet and one that is a Stealthy Assassin. Then there are the magic builds.

However, I see at least 4 character types to split the content of the game. I think you would find it better.

Dovahkiin (That's my character's name):
Nord that came back to Skyrim, but was thought to be a Stormcloak and was sent to Helgen for the Chopping Block. While there, he was still not afraid. He was ready for Sovngarde. But as he was about to get beheaded, a dragon, black as the Nightingale Armor at night in the shadows, and bigger than a tavern attacked! He escaped from Helgen and headed to RIverwood.
Description of Combat Style:
Dovahkiin used light armor and two handed. Got the Wuuthrad fairly early and used that until Level 27. After the change, he used Heavy Armor and Dual Wield Axes. Terrifying in combat and will kill you in a few seconds.
The change:
At level 27, he went through a massive change. He found this book called the Oghma Infinium after going through this annoying errand for Septimus Sigmus, who died. He went in Breezehome the night of the 24th of Hearfire. He stayed in there for a long period of time. He finally came out with this aura around him, like he leveled up to 81 or something. The next day, he had on a full set of Daedric Armor! GODS!
Its SKILLz TIME!:
All skills = 100.
Maxed out Heavy Armor tree. Took all useful One-Handed perks, uses Dual Wield. Took the good Lockpicking perks and maxed out Speech tree. Maxed out the Heavy Armor side of the Smithing tree.
Clear description:
Basically, I got the Oghma Infinium, and did the bookcase thing and got up to level 81. Got Daedric Armor via smithing. Got Dual Daedric Axes via smithing.
70 something hours in.

Name: Davos
Race: Khajit
Class: Smuggler (stealth archer)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Difficulty: Master

Restrictions:

- No magic of any kind, the only exception being special staves such as Wabbajack and Sanguine's Rose
- No points in Light Armor: I HAVE to stay in the shadows, if I'm seen I have two options: Run or die.
- I will not buy crafting ingredients from merchants-- I only use what I hunt/gather/mine.
- I try to eat 2-3 times per day and sleep once per 36ish hours.
- No fast travelling, if I must I'll use a cart outside a town/city
- Staying true to alignment: I am careful to play on a "whim," and accept quests with my moods. I try to keep the balance between good and evil quests.
- No companions-- it's against the smuggler's code ;)

Background: Davos is a smuggler by trade, making his name in Elsweyr as one of the most successful smugglers it the south. Everyone knew his name, few knew his face. He became so renowned at his smuggling that he had been tasked by Lords to run shipments of goods to evade the piracy that was consuming the seas. One particular night, Davos was sailing up the southwestern coast of Skyrim with a hull packed with Skooma and Moon Sugar. His small ship was spotted by an Imperial Frigate one night, and in desperation he tried to elude them along the treacherous coast. Davos knew he could not outrun the frigate, so he searched for some hidden cove or cavern to sail into. Miraculously he spotted a hidden cove beyond a reef, and in his careless haste he collided with a massive rock only a few feet below the surface of the water. He was found unconscious, washed up on the beach, among thousands of bottles of Skooma and Moon Sugar. "These ain't mine" didn't suffice, so he was brought to the headsman along with his fellow prisoners. And that's where out story begins...

Argonian Treasure Hunter.

Expert at getting into as well as out of trouble. Scours the world in search of rare treasures and is a notorious gem hoarder. Somewhat of a social outcast and avoids most social interactions. Considers followers an annoyance but does not discredit their usefulness at being able to help carry loot. Has a fondness for mead and mammoth cheese.

Currently equipped in a combination of glass and elven armor and carries several various enchanted amulets and rings to help in various situations. He prefers to keep his face hidden behind a mask due to his shy nature. Wields two razor sharp and very deadly katanas to which he can dispatch any number of adversaries with deadly efficiency. Most of his victims never see him coming and by the time they feel the arrow pierce their vital organs the poison has already claimed their lives. When ambushed, the few survivors that have been allowed to live have reported this mysterious rogue has the power to vanish instantly before their eyes. There have also been reports from various imperial camps that some unknown masked trickster has been casting fury spells on unsuspecting soldiers causing much confusion and several casualties.

This is why my character is a sort of jot...he has certain skills that allow him to RP in all the guilds and such. I tried having more then one character at first for different playthroughs but I felt disconnected from the character.

Plus...you can't do better then an Argonian ;)

Moon Catcher
Redguard
pure warrior, blade and shield, heavy armour
doesn't use any magic nor any magic weapon
rarely uses stealth
helps anyone who needs it
loves crafting his own gear
crafts himself healing potions but finds no interest in alchemy
Right now he is in Riverwood, sitting on the bench outside the Giant's Inn, with his dog, Vigilance, watching the children playing and profiting of the good air. He is just back from his pilgrimage to High Hrothgar.

Talon Crowhaven
Breton
Looks like Russel Crowe from his character in Gladiator, plus the addition of some facial tattoos.
Primarily a stealth, archer, light armor build. High stats and perks in archery, smithing, alchemy, and sneak.
Lydia is his best bud and he takes care of her. He is celibate, so no hopes of marriage, but he treats Lydia better than most guys treat their wives.

Walks-With-Fire (Argonian)

Swordmaster build. Uses a 1-handed blade and a shield. Smiths his own armor and weapons and is a master smith. Currently wearing enchanted Daedric armor + gauntlets + helmet and enchanted Ebony boots + shield.

He's a good guy who tries to help people, and doesn't do anything he doesn't believe is good in nature. For example, he won't slay giants just for sport, and he tries to avoid conflict when he can, but in battle he is deadly. Uses the Daedric fire-blade known as Valkyrie, which he crafted himself. Is known to summon a Dremora at times which serves him faithfully. In general he is opposed to Daedra, but he uses them to his advantage when he can. He will hear their proposals at shrines but won't do tasks for them deemed too bloody, violent, or evil, even if promised Daedric artifacts in return. Won't get involved with the Thieves Guild or any illegal activities, even though he once stole an Argonian Ale for a drunk in the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. That is the most illegal thing he's ever done. He figured the Mare wouldn't miss a single bottle of ale anyway.

So... why the celibacy? I have never thought of keeping a companion around. In fact, I haven't used any companions since Lydia's tragic death in that deep, dark... draugr infested cave.

Name: Laeyn of The Isles
Race: High Elf
Build: Priest,Bard

Rules: No armor (though bracers and boots are allowed in the light category). No weopons and no archery. No fast travel, no carriages, no horses. Has to sleep in inns or home, cannot 'run' through cities, and can only sprint when in combat. Specializes in: Illusion, Restoration, Enchanting, Alechemy. Can choose from one element in the Destruction (chose fire because it universally damages). Has to roll with a companion at all times (to simulate the tank role). In combat, buffs companion with Courage and Healing Hands, will use Shouts and Illusion spells against enemies.

Background:
Laeyn is a secret ambassador sent from the Isles to see what is going on Skyrim, and to learn more about the Nord culture and why they are still prejudice against all Elves after the Great War. He is also spying on the Thalmor to see if they are abusing their power after the White-Gold Concordant. He has grown his hair long to hide his ears, and tries to blend in, although being highly magical and Dragonborn on top of it sort of backfired on him!
So at this juncture, Laeyn is becoming the arch mage of the College, in hopes to quell the Nords fears of magic, and to show them that there is a great benefit from it (through Restoration use).
Using his new title of archmage, he now travels Skyrim helping the Holds, and gathering as much knowledge about the province in order to gain more understanding on why dragons have returned.

Sorry if it's TL. But if you actually read this, I have to say this is BY far the funnest character I have created.

I have four characters, and they are all loosely based on The Four Horseman, somewhat re-interpreted for the purposes of fitting into Skyrim.

Torung Warborn - WAR

Heavy Armor Nord Warrior. Wields a Steel Greatsword with a shock enchant named Kingbreaker. Certainly not afraid to make use of Battleaxes and Warhammers as well. Aligned with the Stormcloaks in order to feed his un-ending lust for war and destruction both on the field of battle and the political arena. Member of the Companions. Perks are in Heavy Armor / Two-Handed / Smithing / Enchanting as of right now.

Everic Sindur - DEATH

Light Armor Dunmer Assassin. Wears Nightingale/Dark Brotherhood Armor and uses the Bound Sword in main hand and Blade of Woe in his offhand during combat and Mehrune's Razor when stealthily dispatching enemies via throat-slash. Also very proficient in Illusion magic. No allegiance in the war, as the true nature of death serves nobody and spares nobody. Member of Dark Brotherhood / Thieves Guild. Perks are in Sneak / One-Handed / Light Armor / Illusion / Conjuration (For the Mystic Binding perk) as of right now.

Rasza - PESTILENCE

Robe wearing Argonian Necromancer. Makes use of Conjuration, Destruction, and Alteration magic. Only weapons used are Staffs. Incredibly weak and fragile, but a wicked sorcerer with a near endless supply of magical power. No allegiance, his only desire in life is to create chaos. Member of the College of Winterhold. Perks are in Destruction / Conjuration / Alteration as of now.

Dexius Protus - CONQUEST

Heavy Armor Imperial Paladin. Uses a Mace and Shield combination as well as a Dwarven Warhammer with a flame enchant named Penance. A walking machine that burns through the wicked with righteous indignation and an unwavering desire to see and administer justice for the lands of Tamriel. Aligned with the Imperial Legion. Perks are in One-Handed / Block / Two-Handed / Restoration / Heavy Armor as of right now. Smithing / Enchanting will also be perked eventually.

Maggot Sathren
Female Dunmer
Thief/assassin/novice mage
Picture in my signature. She wears light armor and uses a sword which she looted off a pirate's corpse and enchanted.
Essentially she was an orphan who settled down in Riften and joined the Thieves Guild.
She has no desire whatsoever to learn alchemy.
Guards like to make remarks about her "honeyed words."

Krok, the acromegliac Argonin:

7'6", 440 lbs, green(ish) with red 'beard", yellow / brown face scales, and minimal horns. Staunch Imperial supporter (or at least loyal employee) and slayer of thieves / bandits (no thieves guild / DB quests for me, no stealing or other crimes unless there's a good reason; for example, the Thalomer put out a death warrant on my name, so I freely attack them without provocation.)
Currently 22nd level. Smithing and Two Handed weapons over 60, a few other skills in the 30/40's (sneak / bow / lockpick / alchemy / enchant / heavy armor), all the rest only slightly above baseline.

HtH is 100% non-enchanted greatswords (often w/ "Elemental Fury"); all other weapons go to followers or are sold / disenchanted. Alchemy & enchanting are mostly to earn cash, though I did enchant some things to boost 2 hand damage. I haven't yet found a (pick-able) lock I could not pick in short order, but that's just from being Argonian (and fairly good at the lockpick minigame).
Krok can't read (or at least, can't read any languages commonly used in Skyrim) so I don't use any scrolls or spellbooks. The only reason I "use" skillbooks is they auto-read when picked up, and are worth good cash. Most quests that require reading, either the person who gave you the material or who receives it could have read it to you, so those work fine.

I used to console to tweak Krok's AV's a bit; he's bigger (setscale), heavier (2.3) , can carry more (+100), and hits as hard as a kahjiit when unarmed (13). On the other hand, he makes more noise when he moves (130) and has decreased magica regen (2.3). Basically I scaled them all up / down by a a factor of 1.3 (excepting mass, with went up by 1.3^3, and carry, which I figured would scale up not quite as much as mass but more than 1.3). None of the tweaks (aside from setsize, which afaik has no game effect) were implemented before level 20.
