Desperado Cowboy Hat Issue

I'm not certain this is the right forum, but I suppose if I get it fixed it could be called a mod...

Anyway, I don't know if any of you ever noticed (or anyone else either, since there is no mention of it on the fonv wiki nor did I get a google hits regarding it) but the desperado hat is worn backward in the game. This is not a big deal, but it looks really stupid, and it bugs me as a result. Anyway, I decided to try to fix it, and that's when my troubles got weird.

I opened the mesh up in nifskope, rotated it 180 degrees to put the front of the hat pointing forward, saved and put it in my steam/data files/meshes/armor/headgear/cowboyhat folder. I opened the GECK and checked to see that the path was right, and the hat showed the proper fixed orientation in the GECK. Then I went ingame, and the hat had turned upside down and was now just below my character's shoulders. Curioser and curioser, said Alice, though I don't know where SHE came from.

Okay, I checked in GECK again and the hat had the right orientation in there. I opened up the mesh in nifskope, and turned it upside down (rotated it 180 degrees), saved it and went back into the game. Ingame, the hat is now right side up, but sitting too low and off to one side maybe 4 or 5 degrees. Okay, six I, I open the mesh back up in nifskope, move the hat down a few degrees, and off to one side changing the attitude slightly.

Back in game, and the height is now correct, but the hat was too far backward, and still off a few degrees to the side. Opened it in nifskope, moved the hat backward to move it forward ingame, and pushed it farther off to the side hoping to correct that issue as well. Back ingame, the hat now sat nearly perfect as far as forward or backward is concerned, but the hat was even farther off to the side than it had been to start with.

After a little cursing, I opened the mesh in nifskope, and tried moving the hat off to the other side, and back in game, the hat had moved even farther off to the same side as it had been previously. In the words of Cass, rinse and repeat. after a dozen tries or so, everything I do moves it farther off to the same side, and I cannot get it to set aligned with the head.

After the last try, i went back ingame, took the hat off, and used it for target practice for a while...

Does anybody have any idea what is going on with this thing?
