So the greatest thing happened to me. As I was doing my bounties on my Hunter (in hopes of getting engrams to decrypt), O thought to myself in how that 53 Cryptarch level, the asswipe has never given me tje shaders I want (random #'s/Thunderdevil). I as turn in my engrams, I level up my Cryptarch to 54, head to the postmaster. She gives me two rare engrams and the random number shader! Haven't been this happy in a long time.

What sort of rewards do you get when you level up your factions? Are they random like the Vanguard or faction specific? Just saw a Warlock with the Hanged Man shader. Looked awesome, first time I've seen it. I might want to start leveling up Dead Orbit for it.

You can get glimmer, shaders, coins, ascendant materials and weapons from the faction the reward is from. I think it can also reward motes of light but I'm not sure on that.

The Archon Priest is pretty easy to beat so long as you have somebody who can snipe on the outside and somebody who can snipe under the platform. Sometimes have to watch out for surprise invisible vandals though.

The Iron Banner was supposed to be gear oriented, so the people who had done the most playing/grinding had the best advantages and there were supposed to be no balancing for the sake of newer players. But they balanced it anyway to the point of the earliest guns being viable.
