Destroying MiT?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:22 pm

In the Fallout 4 E3 videos we see a scene of what appears to be an orbital laser destroying a portion of downtown Boston.

As these images complied by someone show

https://imgur.com/a/wt2Yp

it appears the location being hit is MiT.

Is it possible we are actually going to be able to level the Institute at some point in the game?

Given the many scenes of the sole survivor shooting at BoS, does this seemingly confirm that you can pick a side in Fo4?

What are your thoughts?

Just so long as the sides are a bit more dynamic then what we saw in New Vegas. Also no blatantly evil factions a la Caesar's Legion.

If it's a possibility, sure...Too soon to toss hats into faction rings just yet...

That's interesting. Perhaps they allow you to choice between MiT and the BoS in the main story.

Doesn't it say in the Gamestop description that you can choose a side?

I think it was the amazon description that said you can pick a side or go it alone, or something along those lines.

The second bridge would be the MiT bridge, the first bridge would be the one that connects to Cambridge street on the Google maps image on the imgur gallery I linked.

Is it possible that the Midwest BoS chapter went to the Institute and made an uneasy alliance. Then Lyons Chapter arrive in Boston with Vertibirds and all hell breaks loose? I would love that btw.

Actualy the current MIT campus is EAST* of the buildings I showed, in fact the first building has the Offices of Boston Biomedical. A PRIVATE multinational Biomedical research company.

If this is the case I'm going to side with the Brotherhood every time. Silly android need to go away, and I guess a giant space laser is the only way to do that.

I don't think this has anything to do with factions. We all know how obsessed the BoS is with technology and considering MiT is a focal point as far as technology goes, I wouldn't be suprised if we went down there, recovered some advanced tech (perhaps a GECK or something equally important) and blew it up.

Sure, the Legion is clearly evil, but good luck picking a good guy between the NCR and Mr. House--both of whom have plenty of pros and cons. I like the NCR, but I like Odo Mr. House a little better...

But based on the Skyrim Civil War, we'll have two factions that are identical in every single way so that choosing a side is utterly meaningless.

I went with NCR first time through, and was utterly unsatisfied with the ending - especially with Goodsprings.

Ever since, I've gone with Mister House. The man's hard, but he's fair. He rewards loyalty and is more then willing to leave alone those who want to be left alone and the man's got an actual plan for the future beyond merely consolidating power.

Eh. Even then, the choice is pretty easy for me. The Medes showed just how loyal they were to the Empire when they were willing to parcel it up and then cut loose problematic provinces. Way I see it, an Empire that shows no loyalty deserves no loyalty.

I hate the Empire. I also hate Ulfric Stormcloak. I'd really like to see the dragons gobble up both factions. -_- Of course, 9/10 times I play a Dunmer and that tenth character is a Breton, so my characters don't tend to be too invested in Skyrim's political fate. :P

I'm more curious as whether or not this is a one-time thing, or if way late in game, we get some sort of technological Shiva to bring my wrath upon those that displease me.

Likely a one time thing.

Bethesda said during the development of Skyrim that dragons wouldn't be able to destroy towns because it causes too many gameplay problems.

they only let a player really destroy something in a controlled situation like Megaton in fo3.

That's a shame...because, well...sometimes, after a long hard day, you just wanna load a save, and start the apocalypse, not save like it never happened. Does the nerves so good.

They better have joinable factions, or the Fallout 4 forums won't get to experience the joys the New Vegas forums enjoyed with the NCR vs Legion debates, or the enjoyment Skyrim forums regulars got out of the Empire vs Stormcloak threads. By the way, NCR and Empire were the correct answers in those games. :bolt:

Implying it was only between the NCR and Legion.

I'd be happy to see conflict between factions where we have a choice on who to side with. Although both sides sound unappealing already because I was never fond of the idea of androids in Fallout, and the Brotherhood are the Brotherhood. I'm curious which Brotherhood this will be in the game. The normal Brotherhood having an interest in MiT? Can definitely see that. Lyon's Pride? Perhaps as well for whatever reason. Midwestern?

What I'm curious about is if there is an independent route like Yes Man or even a neutral route like Skyrim. Although the latter seems unlikely considering this is likely the main plot in the game, unlike Skyrim where the neutral route was there if you did not want to participate in the Civil War in order to progress the MQ.

'Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours.' Sounds like you get a route to do the MQ alone.

Non-post-apocalyptic conditions breed blatantly evil "factions", so given the FO world it's a given. Sadly, evil conduct is part of human nature :sadvaultboy:

I don't think we'll see a good and evil considering neither side is known to do bad things.

They have beef with each other over technology, but if one side wins are they going to do much to Boston as a whole?

Probably not.

This way at least lets you win the war for one side, but everyone else will go living life like normal since neither side seems to be trying to take over the place.

I would even go as far to say it's better written than conflicts in NV because this is just a fight between two sluggers. Everyone else could careless what happens; it won't change Boston as radically as the legion winning NV for example.

Inb4 this is just the civil war 2.0, meaning a mostly optional side quest chain that ties into the MQ at some point.

What if the Android revolution actually had succes and they took over MIT and the conflict is between them and the BoS.Something like the androids using some powerful tecnology to claim their place in the world(Whatever that is) and the BoS wanting that tecnology for some other reason?
