Destruction + Restoration = Sword & Shield?

If I we're to use Flames in right hand and Ward in the left hand, isn't that almost the same like dealing with Sword & Shield but only that you need to master the magicka consumption as you can't just keep the shield up at all times if you don't do tricks with enchanting but that wouldn't make the game more challenging so I wouldn't wanna do that.

What do you think? I was going for new character, Constantine character, Holy Man that only uses Magic but I thought Ward would be pretty important spell to use and other spells that make dead run in fear.

I choose not to take Conjuration and Illusion or Alteration as I get the feeling that would make me too powerful, yes and it wouldn't fit the Holy Man idea I have.

What do you think? :(

I think Fortify Destruction/Restoration is there for a reason.

I don't have anything that makes it free for me to cast Restoration spells because I thought it'd be cheating/make things too easy. Then I realized that even if I could cast Heal for free, most of the time while in battle with a magic user or dragon using fire, I'd be dead before I could switch to spell casting from using dual swords. Potions are still the way to go.

Still, you might think casting Destruction spells for free is cheating. But if you really think about it, our weapons and armors are cheating. In the real world, these things would break in battle; Oblivion kinda addressed this by lowering the amount of damage/protection from your weapons and amor that you constantly used but even Oblivion made it too easy to repair weapons and armor. Skyrim got rid of that and in essence, you're using your weapons and armor for "free" without cost. Just as you would Destruction spells with Fortify Destruction.

But that's why you use Ward, to defend yourself against the Dragon using fire? Mastering it is kinda the whole point and fun of it?

Are the Fortify *magic school* enchantments capped? Oh, and get the Ward Absorb perk in the Restoration tree.

Fortify Potion works but I won't ever use Magicka Potion or Healing, wanna try avoid that and if things go bad, I better have a second plan and think before I go in the places I go, need to be a smart Holy Man.

Also, would a Holy Man\Constantine guy wielding Fire and Holy Powers (Restoration) join the Winterhold College or would he be a self taught man? (Buying books needed on your own or perhaps joining Dawnguard-something-I-have-never-done honestly)
