Destruction Skill, Flat out damage vs draining effects

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:50 am

So what types of destruction skill spells do you use?

Do you like to drain your target to help bring it down?

Or do you possibly like to just blast it to kingdom-come with some kind of direct damage.

Maybe you like combination's of the two using draining and damage causing, if so post your combination's.

Post examples of what you usually use at any skill level of destruction from beginner to maxed.

As a skilled necromancer, im all for hitting them with my slow damage strength spell, which manages to reduce theirs to 0 in 20 seconds (then they cant run around or fight back well), and then summon minions to finish them off while i stand back , enjoying the show :goodjob:

Of course everynow and then someone reflects it back to me.. and i have to think quick :D

Edit: But this sort of powerful spell takes loads of magicka which my level 30-ish (i think) necromancer has no problem throwing about, but it took a while to train him up. Nice role-playing realism there i guess

Having the wide variety of spell combinations you can come up with, it really depends on the mood. I usually have a spell with 2 or more damage types (fire n frost, for example) that does 1-2 damage for like 60 seconds per effect. Other times I like to damage/drain strength like psycholex said. One of my other favs is NOT on the list... making my hand to hand huge and beating people down :D

I will mainly use destruction for damage attribute effects when I play Morrowind.

Damage Speed is my secret weapon. Then out comes the bound bow. Ta ta.
But, yeah, just watch out for reflectors.

I'm not much of a destruction user but when i do use it it usually replaces marksman but then again if i ever actually made to a high level with a magic person i would probably use drain though(if it reflected i would just wildly chop at them with whatever weapon i had then)

I like using spells that damage attributes.

They mix well with Illusion effects, when you pump up your stats enough you can get spells like:

blind 100% for 5
Damage agility 20 for 5

or paralyze for 5 damage strength 20 for 5

or silence 5 damage intelligence 20 for 5

These are basically instant debilitators, but even at max levels I can only get the chance to around 65%. And they are magicka demanding.

When I play a caster class it's usually a Necromancer so DoT(damage of time) spells are very effective because they don't always cost a lot to cast and they are very flexible when using summons as well. Throwing a Drain health spell along with a drain strength( even if the strength is only reduced to half) is very useful when sending in a weak summon llike a skeleton. However it is always good to keep at least one decent DD (Direct Damage) spell on hand for those pesky enemies who manage to outlast the initial spell onslaught and take out the summon.

I usually enjoy throwing around a good on target with maybe some aoe attacks that fall into the category of extra crispy, frozen treats, or static bolt of doom. Sometimes I do on touch versions but its mostly distance fighting style.

I tried messing around with draining effects on attributes etc but I just didn't find something I could get the feel for.

I generally fall into the blast em to kingdom-come area.
