Destruction Spells on Touch... or not...

Post » Fri Apr 15, 2011 7:21 am

There has been many complaints about the touch damage magic in Oblivion. But was it really that bad? Sure they are not ranged attacks but they do have their perks. refer to this pro/con chart.

Pros
Cost less than ranged spells with the same damage.

Cons
Not a range attack.

I think that is all of the pros/cons. correct me if i'm wrong. anyway it really depends on the type of mage charactor you play. I have found it fun to get all heavy armored and hide behind my shield while creeping toward my enemy and then using the spells as if i would a sword.... but with more damage per hit. Like a tank. It is fun. And I would like to do it again after a few play-throughs. If it is in the game. But if not enough people like it, it won't be in the game. So how many others would like it back in?

I highly doubt we'll even have touch with whats being thrown around as common "knowlegde" and rumors, with 85 -Spells- spread across 6 skills on touch wont triumph the *flashy* spells Beth seems to be going for this time around.

until we get more info/

Well, you needed the touch spells to fight underwater, so unless they've changed that they should be making a comeback.

You fought under water? O_o....

Skyrim really isnt big on multiple Bodies of water aside from several lakes, and river and what might be an infinite north expance of sea.

You must've not played very much as a mage in Oblivion.

Touch will most likely make a come back, especially what with on-target not working underwater. It wouldn't make sense to have a fireball going through the water.

I liked touch spells. After all,the problem wasn't the spell, it was the presentation of magic in oblivion. I like up close and personal combat, and touch spells were powerful, never missed, and perfect for CQC. Now the magic seems far more superior then the basic magic system in OB, but I would like to see more spells meant for close encounters.

There is no evidence thats say all spell become spray, rune, charge combinations like flame strike, so On Touch still can be with us

I never used touch spells, so I voted no. But I wouldn't really care if they were brought back, I would just continue not to use them. :twirl:

My new nord OB character uses exclusively blunt and on-touch frost spells, if they take that away from me in skyrim I'll cry :cryvaultboy:

I never used on-target spells, huge waste of magicka. You can make very efficient spells with on-touch.

This, 100%.

If spellmaking is out (I hope to Akatosh it isn't), then what we will likely see is that on-touch is context-sensitive, where if the target is right in front of you, the spell is cast as on-touch, costing less magicka.

I can't stress how Omni situational that makes Magicka..........so basically in this case you don't have to prepare for situations...the button does it for you?

ah and Hellmouths Qoute of Wrex from Mass effect, I hope he isnt claiming that as his own.

Rag I'm not going to continue with you  I have to fight under water as a mage? k

Can we be sure tho? Or is he "pulling back" or "ending" the flamethrower version?

You saying I've never played as a Mage because I never fought underwater makes no sense, I said there isnt anything there and the only underwater mission I did was retreiving mephala's eye, and i just invisble'd the entire cave. the Niben isnt actually teaming with enemies to deal with. Im well aware range spells dont work under water, and touch do, Im saying I never needed to fight underwate. but I make no sense.

ok

On target spells did not work underwater both in Morrowind and Oblivion.

On touch spells are cheaper to cast, so can pack more of a whallop.

I dont remember anyone complaining about touch spells in Oblivion, but then again I tend to zone out, disregard or simply just not read threads that are too obviously clamouring for a more FPS experience than an RPG one.

It depends on the situation, gameplay preferences and strategy wich spell you use.
I want on touch spells to stay, if only because anything removed from the game means removing options, means removing gameplay, means removing replayability.

Hey, I did give Wrex his credit! And that was when Skyrim had its first rounds of features listed.

Anyway, I suspect on-touch spells may be slightly altered. For example, a flamethrower for fire spells.

Good, Good, Wrex is waay to awesome to rip off <3 :obliviongate: .

with magic supposedly coming in Tiers, they'd have to make an on touch spell for atleast every destruction version spell.
