Detail of Skyrim Towns

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 4:34 am

I was reading this article-

http://made2game.com/articles/Features/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim/26217/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-hands-on-The-most-realistic-game-environment-ever/

And if you read down a bit, he says this:

"I was fortunate enough to catch a few words with art director Matt Carofano after my time with the game and he revealed that each town had one dedicated artist moulding and shaping it over the course of two years. Two years! That's an amazing commitment from the artist, and from Bethesda, but it pays off in spades."

One artist for each town over the course of two years?! Those towns should just be absolutely brimming to the seams with detail! My hopes have been elevated yet again for Skyrim, I can't wait for its release!

Yes, I have read that earlier and my excitement rose at the prospect of how much detail and work they would have put into it.

Looking forward to spending time in all of them.

Sounds awesome, these things usually don't take much, they get put on a list of things to do and moved on after, but it looks like they set up dedicated designers to work on them over the whole development cycle, should turn out really cool.

Lol... the artist had to be watched so they did not add anything else.

Ants! ANTS! ANNNTSS!!! I mean wow, something i will notice maybe once, is actually in the game. Great work Bethesda, even if i won't see them much, it makes the world come alive.

Yes.

Normally game developers don't put in NEAR as much thought and efforts into their games.

This is the game to ELIMINATE all games :shocking:

They had a good 40 more workers, so a 100 full time staff worked on Skyrim, plus 70 voice actors. Sound, Art, Gameplay... all improved, all welcome, all cherished.

One of the best things about this article was the stat recording, I was worried it wouldn't be in Skyrim for some reason but thankfully it is :D The amount of detail in this game is mind blowing, not to mention to quests seem more branched and interesting this time. Ice mage and fire mage duking it out? Awesome.

Yes, its great truly, and beats all other open world games.

Tho, i do not think it will "Eliminate" FPS's. I can tell you in Battlefield 3 i don't hope to see ants crawling over my jet... tho hitting a bird might be fun... :ooo:

Holy cow amazing read.

With the shear amount of detail in this game makes me wonder about effort in other games I play. Clearly games such as COD with all the money it generates could create a longer more engaging single and multi-player experience. Instead of rehashing the same game year after year.

Bethesda you guys are awesome! I hope you make a ton of money on SKYRIM so you can bring us another truly awesome game for Next Gen. I look forward to my next few years with SKYRIM.
